New London and / or Mystic .....Where do locals eat????
If nice and want seafood, Try Captain Scott's in New London. They should be open by then. They only have outside seating near a marina.
I agree I like Paul's Pasta. Try the specials or the Chicken diablo. I'm not a fan of their red sauce, but always enjoy their food.
I have heard great things about the Oyster Club in Mystic. Would love to try them myself.
For breakfast I would suggest any of the Shack's locations.
Chipped Ham found outside western PA
Hi,
As a Pittsburgh girl I do miss having chipped ham BBQs.
At my local Stop and Shop found Boars Head Oval Spiced ham. Had it shaved. It is chipped ham. It looks a little different being oval and the chunks in the loaf are much smaller. . . but it tastes like home.
So go out and demand Boars Head Spiced Ham.
Enjoy
Mahwah eats - State line diner??
We hit a bit of traffic in NY as we were traveling the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We were staying at the Courtyard so we just got a few things from the Bistro at the hotel. We didn't feel like going out.
Did stop by the diner and got a few pastries the next morning(Thanksgiving). We enjoyed those over the holiday weekend.
Thanks for all the input.

Alert Western Pa natives - chipped ham found
Hi,
Boars Head spiced ham shaved is chipped ham.
I had read chipped ham is a spiced ham . . . so when I saw Boars head oval spiced ham in the deli case of my Stop and Shop I had to give it a try. It was like being home in Pittsburgh. The look of the boars head is a little different, looks like a finer grind. But I made ham BBQs and enjoyed a taste of home.
Ask for it shaved because I don't think many deli's understand what we mean by chopped.
Enjoy

Birthday dinner help--Pittsburgh
What about Lidia's Italy in the strip? I would get the Pasta trio.
Happy B-day
Paul's Pasta - Groton, CT
I always like Paul's Pasta. Not a fan of their red sauce. But I love the Chicken Diablo sauce, a dijon mustard and lemon based sauce. And usually their seafood based specials I like.

Terrible Fish and Chips at Yankee Clipper, Niantic, CT
When I want seafood I go to Captian Scott's Lobster dock. They have never disappointed me. I am always glad when I know they have opened for the season. But be warned only outsid seating available.
custys lobster buffet, are they open?
A friend told me last week the owners decided not to re-open. Something about the owners getting older and having health issues. I never went I couldn't believe I would get my money's worth at that price.
I hear Nordic lodge is good maybe try there.
Small wedding receiption in Norwich area
I was also thinking of Nu Nu's Bistro in Colchester, but their room may be too small for your group.
I know Olympic pizza has a room for events but I wouldn't say they have amazing food.
I'll keep thinking.
Awesome farmers markets in PA?
Went with family to Allentown farmers market around Thanksgiving. It had a great selection. Better than anything I have in CT.
Pizza Lady in Pawcatuck
Coastalgypsy - Thanks for the quick reply. I may have to try it one of these days when I'm in the area. Sometimes the simple tastes are a nice change of pace.
Joltingjoey -is that Heinz or Hunts ketchup? I'm a Heinz girl. I'm thinking it might be something a bit more than that to have survived so long on the menu. But to each his own.
Pizza Lady in Pawcatuck
Can anyone tell me what is a traditional pizza from the Pizza lady in Pawcatick CT is like?
It lists spicy or sweet and also fish. But there is no explanation on what they mean by traditional versus their regular pizza.
Growing up we had a italian neighbor make us pizza that was a thick crust with a little tomatoe sauce on it. It was so good. It was similar to RI pizza strips. I'm wondering if the PIZZA Lady is similar. It is right by the RI border.
Thanks
Need PA-centric foods for my new book
What about Fritzy (or is Fritzi) burgers/sandwiches? Take chipped ham fry up add a slice of cheese and serve on hamber bun.
Don't forget ham BBQ's. Fry some diced bacon and onions (optional green peppers) in a pot. When bacon crisp and veggies soft, add Heinz chilli sauce, catsup and water. Heat to simmer. Add chipped ham. Warm and serve on hamber buns.
Yes Pittsburgh favorites
Allentown/Bethleham area suggestions. Please help>
Family friendly is good, we have a 2 year old. We don't mind paying for good food, but ultra fine dining would be out. Would prefer local establishments.
National chains are not probably welcomed suggestions. We never eat at a chain when traveling if we could eat at that chain at home. It all part of the traveling to enjoy the local places.
Thanks

Thanksgiving in Lehigh Vally
My siblings are meeting up with my family for Thanksgiving in the Allentown/ Bethlehem area. I am looking for information on where would be serving a good Thanksgiving dinner. Buffets are fine. But sitdown could work too. Only concern is we have a 2 year old, so don't want something too formal. Any suggestions, links etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Any room at the inn? Great food + rooms
The Inn at Turkey Hill in Bloomsburg, PA. The rooms are oh so comfortable. I highly reccomend the stable rooms for couples. Plus the food is very good. I have meet my family there for Thanksgiving even and have never regretted it. Highly recommended
