perilla or centro vinoteca for birthday dinner

I prefer Perilla for it's consistently good food and service, however Centro Vino may be better for a group since it has small plates etc. Centro can get very loud and cramped though.

Midtown/Uptown recs

After moving out of NYC, my husband and I have decided to spend a few days above 42nd street (east and westside) for a mini vacation. We are staying on the park and need recs for brunch, lunch, and a low key dinners. We are both foodies but are always dining downtown. Cuisine is open, as is price and location (as long as it isnt downtown), but please keep in mind that we are topping off our mini vacation at Daniel, so leading up to that, we would love good food but without the pretense. Thanks so much!

Drinking Alone: What Bar?

The otheroom on Perry St in the West Village is perfect. On a quiet block, and usually pretty quiet between 7-8. I highly recommend it. Cash only.

my new hamburger ranking

I am so surprised that Tavern on Jane has not gotten a mention. After too many long waits and some mild disapointments at CB, I started going to Tavern on Jane and have not looked back since!

Is Da Andrea closed?

Was there an answering machine? In the past I have left a message and they call back after 5pm.

Piccolo Angelo - Still worthy?

I visited a few months ago, and although I have def had better food elsewhere, the familial atmosphere, dedicated staff, and good food is def still worth it.

Help me feed my friends from London and SF!

For a girls night out, I like Kittichai for Thai or Buddakan for Asian fusion. Extra Virgin or Snack Taverna are great for Med, as is is Fig & Olive, which can probably better accomodate your group. As for your SF friends, I recommend Da Andrea, Piadina, Tia Pol, Kingswood and August.

Quinoa lover

I cannot recall if it is quinoa or not, but there is a "risotto" on Perilla's menu that is delicious.

how's 'village' on 9th street?

I live a block away and go there mostly for drinks. But for a burger or steak, it is great too. Without Village and Piadina (on W 10th), I could not survive!

Babbo -- Twice in One Week Too Much?

I think you should go twice, Babbo is one of my favorite restaurants and each time I go, I am torn between ordering a la carte or enjoying the tasting menus. If you go twice, you would have the opportunity to do both! what a great luxury!

Morandi???

I prefer brunch or lunch there, but dinner is nice. This place has gotten a bad rap, but the food is fine and doesnt try too hard. I recommend any of the paninis and the calamri app is very good.

NYC hound visiting on business

Thanks for your help in advance. I am a NYC CH who will be in SF in a few weeks with colleagues. Meals will be expensed, but we are not looking for outrageous prices. However, we want great food and great atmosphere. Not particular about cuisine, but just want the best!

I think Perilla is one of the best additions over the last few years. It is consistently good and very straightforward. I highly recommmend it.

Brasserie is fantastic and well priced. We just recently held an event of that size and the food and drinks were great. Leah runs the catering/events there and is very helpful.
