Drinks after Butter
Try Pegu club in Soho. They are known for their mixologists and the space is nice and sleek.
Also try Pravda - a Russian martini bar.

Who serves the best french onion soup in the city?
Try Balthazar or Pastis - both serve up great french onion soup - they are owned both owned by McNally.

BEST SUSHI??
I have to agree with others and say Yasuda hands down is the best I've had. 15 East is close by and Masa is quite good as well. But if i had to pick one of the three, it would be Yasuda at the sushi bar ordering omakase.
Trip to NYC with a special girl. Need help!!
For Friday's Central Park: go to Columbus Circle and either stop at Bouchon bakery or just head downstairs to the whole foods and get something there. (they have prepared foods already packaged, food counters, food buffet...everything!)
Friday dinner: I like Blue Ribbon Sushi (there's always great sushi there and other fare - if she loves marrow, go for the marrow fried rice), try MaPeche or Caselula if you want smaller homey bites
Saturday at Locande Verde: omg i love their lamb sliders and their shrimp brushchetta. I'm not familiar with their brunch menu but if they have those, get it....
Saturday: go to Blue Ribbon Sushi, Yasuda for the adventurous sushi eater, John's for pizza (but it's downtown).
As EMP - I absolutely loved it there and I don't think it would be too far off for an 11 year old at alll! it's amazing. Go there if you can. I also loved Marea SO much - more than EMP. It's in the same price range and it sort of combines raw fish/seafood with pasta so you might be able to have a bit of everythign she is looking for? Try their marrow and octopus fusili...to die for. Or their sea urchin with lardo....trust me!

Ideas on fun italian birthday spot, like Inoteca or Otto
not a fan of bar stuzz at all. mushy overcooked pasta. personal experience but maybe it was an off night.
Rooftop bars with a tasteful crowd
I think the rooftop at Rare in Murray HIll is pretty decent. Not SO large like 230 fifth to be monstrous but large enough that you aren't smooshed up next to Mr. Suit guy
Desperate, please help!
Bacaro has a great prix fix deal ($55 per person with TONS OF FOOD -- it's like three plates per serving and there are four courses!) with $15 open bar for an hour per person. The food is good and the space is lovely. It's LES/Chinatown area -- you could walk over to Gatsby's if you need to.
i hate the food at Park so i would not recommend there.
August or Apizz
I've been to Perilla, Apizz and August and I would say go to August. The food is really good and inventive and the space is really nice. Make sure to sit in the back where the ceilign is made of glass (think greenhouse).
I live near Apizz so I used to go often and I have to say i like the food alot. I love their house sauce and i love everything from their lasagna to their gnocchi with honey spareribs to the pasta with crab meat (lots of crab meat). Everything is cooked in a wood burning oven -- is piping hot and has a smokey flavor to it. Yes, sometimes the salt can be heavy handed at times but it has not been everytime i've been there.
Perilla is really delicious and I believe in the same price point as the others. I go here often as well. THe duck meatballs and the pork belly apps are to DIE for. The hangar steak is quite good as is their duck entree. The food has been consistenly good at this place as well. Recently went and they have soft shell crab on the menu and they do not skimp. They serve you two large crabs.
Have fun wherever you go!
Spice Market Recs?
The food is not amazing but it's not bad. The decor is what it's all about and back when it first opened, the celebrities it used to attract although not so much anymore.
Personally this is what i order when i go there every time: spicy chicken wings -- they are spicy though so be able to handle the heat. The curry mussels are quite good as well.
They are apps. The other stuff I've got are so so liek the fish etc.
New List of Oyster Happy Hours?
Fish in the west village. 6 oyster or 6 clams PLUS a drink. Grand total = $8. That is a great deal if you ask me. And i believe it's 7 days a week
red onion sauce for hot dogs
i think it's sauteed onions chopped smaller with ketchup thinned out with vinegar. Maybe some added sugar and salt?
(this is speculation based on my taste opinion)
10 Downing - Any thoughts?
The Charcuterie platter is really large for two ppl (i ate there recently with a friend) -- I also was not a huge fan of it and would not order it again. The squid ink pasta agnolotti is tasty and get the brussel sprouts with the poached egg.
best prix fixe?
Ssam has a good lunch prix fix. For $29 i think it is you get a choice of appetizer, main and dessert and it's darn tasty.
Help me pick between these places PLEASE!
I've been to all your places and hands down i say Scarpetta. One of the best meals i've ever had.
Baby eels
Had them last night at Ten Bells on Lower East side. They were sauteed with garlic, olive oil and red pepper flakes. Delicious
One night in Manhattan....Where to eat?
Hm i guess i wouldn't say Falai is pure molecular gastronomy like WD-50 but for example the last time i was there they served a parmesan marshmallow. It was literally parmesan cheese created in the consistency of marshmallow. So i suppose that is why i said it can be infused with molecular gastronomy.
But you are right, it's not really under that genre of cuisine
Parents visiting - both on ATKINS (arghhh) HELP!
You should just go brazilian bbq where they bring out skewers of meat and slice it onto your plate until you are full. Go Churrascaria Plataforma...
One night in Manhattan....Where to eat?
Momofuku Ssam bar is where you should go but you must get there prior to 730 to snag a table without a long wait. It's one of my favorite restaurants for sure.
For inventive italian infused with molecular gastronamy try Falai -- the food is delicious and texturally different from standard plates. Don't get me wrong, you won't really find traditional pasta here.
Aburiya Kinnosuke is excellent Japanese in the non sushi sense (although it is served) -- they serve up homemade tofu, izakaya (grilled meats/veggies on a stick and cooked on charcoal imported from Japan) and other very traditional japanese food like noodles in a hot pot and pork belly. Try their sister restaurant Yakitori totto for a wider variety of izakaya (and if you have an adventurous palate they serve up things like chicken heart and chicken knee bone)
Bar Boulud serves up excellent pate's and headcheeses with a wide assortment of wines. They have other stuff too like fish and meats for mains but it is their pates and headcheese worth going for. VERY good.
Restaurants in New York with interesting decore?
Try Spice Market -- it is absolutely gorgeous in there. Jean Georges flew in all this stuff from Asia and you feel like you are in some kind of decadent Asian country in there. The food is street asian food.
Tao (the food is average) has a huge buddha inside and sweeping fabric panels on the ceiling. It is a huge restaurant and you definitely feel transported somewhere else as the area is large and beautifully decorated inside.
If you HAD to eat Italy in Little Italy or vicinity, where?
I LOVE ANgelo's! I second this. I love their parpadelle with garlic, tomato and mushrooms and their spicy diablo with angel hair.
Charles Restaurant
I have eaten there and definitely the food is average at best....and yet expensive. Since reservations can only be got by knowing someone I don't think you can just call it up -- i don't believe the number is even published nor is the restaurant open to the public yet...that is if you still want to eat there given the reviews
Tapas + Wine + Atmosphere
Boqueria -- the new one in Soho -- has tapas and wine and sleek atmosphere. No live music however.
Also try Son Cubano in Meatpacking
Pipa in Flatiron for tapas in a lovely setting of chandeliers and velvet chairs
Spice Market for asian street style food (which is small portioned like tapas)
Bacaro on LES for Venetian tapas.
Cool place where I don't need res tonight.
Truthfully for most restaurants on a MOnday night, if you get there before 8pm you should be able to be seated relatively quickly.
Fried Clams and Oysters
Jin -- japanese restaurant -- on Broome street on LES has great plump fried oysters with this mayonnaise type dipping sauce. Prune (if it's still on the menu) serves up some really nice plump babies as well.
rec's quick please!
Bacaro in LES. I had my bday dinner there of 10 ppl. You get a small little side room it's vry pretty and very chill. Venetian tapas. For $50 you get a priced fix menu of like 10 different tapas and you can add $15 open bar per person per hour if you opt to.
Here's the private dining menu. It's seriously such a steal.

Great deal, great food.
AH and just saw the time of your posting. Well perhaps this will help others! :)
Best Chicken in NY? Almost any style?
I love the chicken diablo (spicy) from Dell'Anima and the Roast Chicken with vegetables at Lil Frankies is also quite tasty.
Oh and i hear L'Artusi serves a good brined then roasted chicken. But i've yet to have that.
Find me some Dim Sum
Golden Unicorn is supposedly the best among even the Chinese. I asked my friend's apt broker who was chinese from chinatown, and he said best dimsum was at Golden Unicorn. Went there and line was out the door so I can't say i've had first hand knowledge -- but the line said plenty. We opted for Joe's Shanghai instead for soup dumplings.
