Need recs S and SW Chicago on my way to Midway

I am looking for some recommendations for South and S'west of Chicago's Midway airport. Driving in on a Monday for an 8 p.m. flight out of M'way and looking for some ideas. All ideas are worthy, but thin crust pizza, Mexican Asian, fusion, . . . ?

(1) Best Mexican and (2) N. Loop dining

My wife and I will be attending a conference in Chicago later this week and staying at the Renaissance Hotel. We are looking for recommendations for good Mexican/Latin fare via an easy El commute, but setting aside Topo, Frontera, Salpicon, Nuevo Leon, what's the next best set of Mexican/Latin restuarantsd (still open) in Chicago?

And we are meeting friends at our hotel at 1 W. Wacker Drive. What's good nearby? Wasn't there a seafood place right across the river? Any help would be appreciated.

need an update re. NOLA

Two years ago, I attended a conferfence in NOLA which usually convenes the 2nd weekend in January. At the 2005 pre-K meeting, I took the Canal Street line out to the Park and strolled down the street and had dinner at Gabrielle's, and also noticed, if I remember correctly, Lola's nearby. What is the current status of these two restaurants, and what is the current status of the light rail lines? I am looking forward to returning to NOLA for the January 2007 meeting.
