Farm Fresh to You? Farm Co-Op? CSA?
Hi all,
We live in Berkeley and we're looking for the best home delivery of fruits/veggies from local, sustainable, organic farms. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've heard about Full Belly, Farm Fresh to You, and Eat Well.... are there any others? Or are any of these significantly better than the others?
I haven't seen many posts on this, would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks!
Can you recommend a good sashimi knife?
Thank you all for your replies! I'm in SF so I'll have to take a peek at the recommended places, too. I think I'll go with a Shun Pro Yanagiba for now, and see about upgrading to the $700 varities once we're the unofficial sushi house for our friends! ;)
And then I'll report back if we decide to open up a sushi restaurant! You'd all be invited! :)
Can you recommend a good sashimi knife?
Yes, thank you! So, if I make sashimi about once a month, I should be fine wtih the $150 version. If I open up a sushi restaurant, however, I should look into the $400 variety?
Best Burger in Bay Area?
Taylors at the Ferry Building, anyone? Sweet potato fries, shakes, burgers on egg buns?!
Nothing I've had here (yet) is as good as Father's Office in Santa Monica, but I'm holding out for Cafe Rouge or Zuni.
Lemon Ricotta Pancakes at Cock-A-Doodle-Doo
Bette's Diner on Fourth Street in Berkeley have awesome lemon ricotta pancakes as well. Delish!

Is there a big difference between the $150 Shun varieties v. the $400 varities that I keep reading about?
Can you recommend a good sashimi knife?
Can anyone recommend a top-quality sashimi knife in the $150 range? There are several types that I've heard of -- yanagi ba, fugu hiki and tako hiki -- but which is the best for making carpaccio and sashimi at home? And, can you reccomend a brand as well? We use Shun at home.
Tahiti
Elsie! We just got back from our honeymoon in Moorea. Expect everything to be expensive. In fact, the resorts offer dinners that are are par quality and price-wise with other local joints. Pinneapple juice costs around $10 USD and splitting a pizza and two cokes from a local pizza stand can cost around $30. There was only one roadside chicken truck on Moorea when we were there, but it was a great option on the main island of Tahiti.
You must check out the restaurant that's famous for its outdoor deck that overlooks the water, where you can watch the sting rays. Ask anyone on the island for the "sting ray place" and they'll be able to point you in the right direction. That was by far our favorite meal in Moorea! Try the steak, it was delish!
There are a few other Italian spots that are decent. Overall, nothing was as outrageous as the prices were, but just know that you'll spend a good bit of money while you're there and enjoy the most amazing vacation you'll ever have!
Turns out, everything - even the silverware and toilets - are imported from France, likely driving up the costs.
As for healthy, we didn't worry too much about that -- we were on our honeymoon! But there is a great supermarket right by the ferry where we bought own ingredients for a healthy dinner.
If you indulge in all the French buttery foods, at least you can snorkel and kayak it off! ;)
We stayed at the Sheraton Moorea - my favorite on the island!
Do Japanese people make sushi at home?
