Dining Out near Orlando with Children

I know you said you don't like chains but I have found the best luck with those places, especially since they are more accommodating for children and have things like high chairs, etc. My whole blog is dedicated on places to eat out with children so you can check it out at http://restaurantmom.blogspot.com. There are bunch of really good Mexican places around including Taquitos Jalisco which has two locations, one on S.R. 50 in Winter Garden.

Orlando dinner with 10-year daughter

Try Roy's on Sandlake. They have a great kids prix fixe menu. It even has sushi. I took my 8 year old and he loved it.

Best sushi in Orlando?

Zen is really known for Chinese, not sushi. I just ate at Oishi Sushi right near SeaWorld at International Drive and Central Florida Parkway and it was very good. A nice list of cold and hot sakes and some very creative rolls, too. I find Amura to be good but a bit overpriced.

Orlando Indian Restaurant

I went to New Punjab Indian Restaurant (7541 International Drive) last weekend and it was excellent. The appetizer sampler was great and the chutneys were good as well. Note - it is behind a $1.99 Gift Store so it is a bit hidden.

Stone Crabs in Orlando?

Fish Bones, east of I-4, on Sand Lake Road has great stone crab claws. They even have the mustard sauce that reminds me a lot of Joe's Stone Crabs in Miami Beach.

The Cheese Shop in Winter Park

I went to the Cheese Shop on Sunday - very nice! We picked up a couple of cheeses and we were able to try each cheese before we bought it. They now have the Ploughman's lunch with a large roll, a hunk of cheddar, and a piece of fruit for around $8. I asked if they were going to get bread in soon and they are not sure because there is also a Panera a few doors down. So, I ended up going to Panera's and picking up a loaf of their country bread to go with my cheese.

winechic, did they have any breads for sale as well? I love eating cheese with fresh French breads and wine.

Brunch Buffets in the Disney Resorts

I did a review of House of Blues in my blog http://restaurantmom.blogspot.com/sea... . I really liked it and the entertainment definitely made it worth it. Spoodles at the Boardwalk Resort also has breakfast - they have some mediterranean style brunch foods on the menu. Also, Kona Cafe at the Polynesian Resort is very good (and there are no characters) - don't miss the Tonga Toast which is French Toast stuffed with bananas. Spoodles and Kona Cafe are not buffets but there is a lot of variety and some "combo" plates that you can order.

I'm very sad to hear this news and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He will be greatly missed on the Orlando/Florida Boards - he always had great insights.

Orlando - what's for dessert? what's your fav's?

I just discovered Fortuna Bakery off of Deerfield Road, just off of John Young Parkway north of Hunters Creek (12701 S. John Young Parkway). It is a Hispanic bakery and the desserts look - and taste - awesome! They have a whole display case full of beautiful single-serve desserts such as tiramisu, cakes, rolls, cookies, etc and everything in it is $2.50 or less!

I haven't been but there is also Infusion Tea Room in Winter Park - they are an organic vegetarian tea room with items like sandwiches and salads on the menu.

More info on Zen at Champions Gate please

I've seen a bunch of posts on the board about Zen at the Omni at Champions Gate. Would that be a good place to go for a special dinner such as an anniversary? What is included in the Zen Experience and can you get that for two people? Thanks.

Family Dining Suggestions near Stone Mountain, GA

Thanks so much Atlanta Chowhound! I'll take your post with me and report back!

Orlando Christmas Buffet - Classy and Kid Friendly?

The Villa de Flora buffet at the Gaylord Palms is amazing. Lots of really good food choices. We took our kids (3 and 7) last year and had no problem finding food for them (waffles, bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon, etc). Food for adults is good too - omelet station, smoked salmon, southern dishes, etc.) The atmosphere is really nice because the Villa de Flora is in the middle of the huge atrium inside the Gaylord Palms and it is all decked out for Christmas. In fact, you should plan on spending some time walking around the Gaylord Palms after you done to see all the decorations. The only thing is it can get really crowded at the buffet - there will be a long wait to get in (even if you have a reservation) and long waits at some of the buffet lines (particularly the omelet station). Probably the earlier you go, the less the crowds will be.

Lobster Roll in Orlando

They have lobster rolls at Celebration Town Tavern in downtown Celebration. A co-worker swears by them and she used to go to school in the Boston area. http://www.thecelebrationtowntavern.c...

Thanks grampart - maybe we'll do that on our Stone Mountain Park day.

Family Dining Suggestions near Stone Mountain, GA

Thanks Atlanta Chow Hound! We have planned to go to GA Aquarium and the new Coke Museum one day, Zoo Atlanta and the Botanical Gardens another day and the final day going to Stone Mountain Park. So, two days we will be travelling around downtown Atlanta.

Family Dining Suggestions near Stone Mountain, GA

Okay, I've been checking the boards here - what do you think of Mary Mac's Tea Room, The Flying Biscuit, and The Varsity? Are those places for kids?

Family Dining Suggestions near Stone Mountain, GA

We'll be coming to Stone Mountain, GA, in two weeks for vacation and I'd like some suggestions for family dining in that area. We'll be staying for 4 nights and I have a eight-year old who will eat anything and then a picky three-year old (so I need the children's menu for him). We'll be exploring places in Atlanta too, but mostly during the day, as Stone Mountain will be our home base. Any suggestions? We don't mind chains, but we do like to try new stuff so it's better if they are regional chains that won't be found in Orlando, where we are from. Seafood, steakhouse/chicken place, Italian, Japanese, Chinese would be good.

Bob. Can We Get an Update of New Orlando Restaurants

I heard that Fogo de Chao might be coming to Orlando - is that true?

Philly Critic Craig LaBan Sued By Resto

Plus, the part that is ridiculous on the restaurant's part is what exactly do they want to accomplish? To make sure that the reviewer retracts and says, sorry, it wasn't the strip steak that was tough and fatty, it was the ribeye? Is that better? And especially since the reviewer mentioned how good the crab cakes were in the next sentence - good luck proving malice. Just a completely unfounded lawsuit.

Good Bagels in Orlando

You need to also try On a Roll in "downtown" Celebration - it's a new place where the old Goodings location used to be on Main Street. These guys are from NY and their food is as well! They actually import their bagels from NY and just finish them here so they are authentic. You need to try their sandwiches as well - all on hard rolls that are chewy inside and crunchy on the outside. They also import cookies from Brothers of Brooklyn - things like rugelach and black-and-white cookies.

Soft Serve in Orlando

Yes, the Twistee Treat in Ocoee is great! Probably what you are looking for but far away from where you are. All kinds of soft serve flavors including swirls - and really reasonable prices. I love getting the vanilla/mint swirl sundae.

Family Resturants in St Pete, Tampa & Clermont/Orlando

In Orlando I like High Tide Harry's (Seafood) for lunch or dinner. It is near the airport at the intersection of 50 and Semoran. I like that they give you hush puppies with cinnamon butter as soon as you sit down - keeps the kids happy. First Watch on Sand Lake Rd is good for breakfast but expect to wait. Tijuana Flats, as Heather mentioned, is one of my favorite places to take the kids. Lots of kid-friendly chains around both Clermont and Orlando like Carabba's, Chevy's, Macaroni Grill, Applebee's, etc. There are also several "gourmet" McDonald's on Sand Lake near International Drive (one East of I-4 and one West of I-4). They are fun because the kids can have the regular McDonald's food and you can have freshly grilled panini's, salads, chicken entrees, etc. - they even have omelet chefs during the week for breakfast.

NYT: On "Kids Menus"

Oh yeah, I'm convinced now that some "tastes" have to be genetic, not learned. Otherwise, both my kids should eat everything, right? I'm hoping that my little one will learn to be a little more adventurous as he gets older and sees all of us trying different foods. Good luck with your picky eater as well!

Did Saucy Bella in Orlando close?

We tried to go to Saucy Bella (near Florida Mall) on Monday but it was closed. I thought it might have been because it was Memorial Day but the restaurant looked like some signage was down as well. Then, a friend just told me she tried to go by another day and they were still closed. Anyone know?
