Ramen Underground
Went for lunch today. I guess sometimes the owners' eyes are not a reliable guide.
Ramen Parlor
Saw an ad in a Japanese newspaper that Ramen Parlor will be "opening soon." The note said that it's another shop from the Santa folks. In San Mateo, one block from Ramen Dojo.

Ramen Underground
Happened to walk past this new ramen place today, but too late, since the owners were just closing up.
Didn't see anything inside, but just from the look in the owners' eyes, I have a lot of hope for this place.
On Kearney, near Pine.
Plow in Potrero?
People were loading kitchen equipment into the space on the SE corner of 18th and Texas this morning. A woman outside said it's going to be an "upscale greasy spoon breakfast joint" (her exact words) called Plow. Anyone know more about this?
New SF ramen restaurant?
Sounds like that's the one because of the March opening, plus the fact that it was in both the Japanese paper and on the Nijiya board.
Pizza school...where to find?
Well, this is in Berkeley, but I recently took a seafood class at Kitchen on Fire and the instructor said he was coming back soon to teach a pizza class.

Also, I have steadily improved my home pizza making over the last couple of years, and a great resource has been the Berkeley Cheeseboard's cookbook.
New SF ramen restaurant?
Maybe.
Watami (和民) is also a big izakaya chain in Japan. Would be interesting if they're opening up an SF location.
New SF ramen restaurant?
I saw a help-wanted flyer on the Nijiya Market bulletin board re: wait staff for a new SF ramen restaurant. The flyer said the restaurant was expected to open in March. Is there any other information about this place?
Umami? [Moved from San Francisco]
[[ This thread was moved from the San Francisco board, since it was more about umami as a flavour than a restaurant. To discuss Umami the restaurant, please see this thread: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/352398 -- The Chowhound Team ]]
Has anyone heard anything about this place? I think it might not be open yet.
By the way, there was a fascinating article in Gastronomica a little while back with an argument that umami's status as some kind of basic flavor was actually the result of a self-serving PR campaign by Ajinomoto to get regulators to recognize MSG as a flavoring rather than a chemical additive.
