Help! Need a rec for wine tasting this Friday in Napa! [moved from Wine board]

My husband and I are heading to Napa this Friday for my birthday (yeah!) and have time Friday afternoon to stop in and do a tasting before dinner that night (we'll be in town around 3pm and dinner isn't until late). We're staying in Yountville... any thoughts or ideas of smaller wineries where we can stop in? Already doing Hess and Pine Ridge. Thanks!

Tasty Recipes for Weight Loss

I'm all about dessert... I take pumpkin filling from the can, add in fat free cool whip, tons of cinammon and spices, along with Slenda and whip up nice and fluffy (all to tast). Fill a pie tin lined with low-fat graham crackers you've packed in and voila - a total pass for pumpkin pie! You can even do individual ramikans to make it more special!

Going to Maui and looking for dinner in Wailea

Thanks everyone! Been to all of the recommended (and will most likely go back)... still looking for the "find"... the little place you wouldn't know about unless you either lived there or met someone cool enough to share the secret!

Jury duty ... next week ... Criminal Courts Building ... downtown Los Angeles ...

EVERYONE I KNOW HAS BEEN CALLED TO JURY DUTY THIS WEEK! I went last week (love the 1 day / 1 trial - I was 1 day) and it was a total vacation! You end up chatting it up with other folks tired of reading and yes, the hour and a half lunch helps get you through the day! I did R23 (only becuase my husband picked me up) but a bunch of people walked to Little Tokyo and raved about inexpensive noodles and sushi! Sounds like you really can't go wrong anywhere down there!

Going to Maui and looking for dinner in Wailea

Help!

Husband and I are going to Maui (haven't been in 4 years!!!) and are looking for ideas in Wailea (please don't say Nicks!)... Any recommendations? We'll be there the last week of March.

Thanks!

Need help - can't think of a name for a new place in Santa Monica!

Both - the bar is small (big enough to sit at and have a meal though). It's not a large place which is what I like about it, and everyone was super friendly!

Also - they have "communal" tables big enough to seat 8 people, so if you get there early enough without a reservation they can accomodate a rather large party, which I also liked.

Give it a shot and let me know what you think!

Need help - can't think of a name for a new place in Santa Monica!

Thanks all... went the other night and loved it! Food was yummy and the wine was good! Not that loud - and I hear they are working on the acoustics to fix the problem, but overall, would totally recommend this place to others! I think my husband and I are going to make it our weeknight dinner stop at the bar!

Need help - can't think of a name for a new place in Santa Monica!

I know there's a new wine / tapas type place in Santa Monica on Wilshire (closer to 14th street I think), but can NOT for the life of me remember the name of it (arghhhhh!).

If you know it, can you pass it along and let me know if you've 1) been, and 2) recommend it?

Thanks all!

ISO lunch and dinner recommendations in Napa

I think we're going to do Redd's for dinner and then maybe Mustard's for lunch... It's all coming together and we're so excited! Haven't been for years and we both love food and wine!

I'll let you all know how things went! Thanks for the scoop!

ISO lunch and dinner recommendations in Napa

My husband and I are going to Napa next week for a few days and are looking for a place for DINNER on Thursday night (anywhere near Yountville) and LUNCH on Friday (anywhere between Calistoga and Yountville.)

Ideas? We're doing dinner on Friday at Bouchon... Help! And Happy Holidays!

Feeding a crowd dessert?

I absolutely agree with the trifle idea! It's got such a huge "wow" factor and it's so easy to pull together! There's a variety of easy recipes, and you can even pull one together yourself without a recipe! Take chocolate pound cake, some fresh whipped cream, and some chocolate pudding and layer away! Finish the top with the whipped cream and some chocolate shavings and viola - a show stopper!

Saki Hot Or Cold? [moved from Wine board]

How when it's cold out, and cold when it's hot!

Seriously though, good sake should be cold. That's really why you never see "house sake" served cold!

ISO BRUNCH LOCATION IN MARINA DEL RAY AREA FOR 10 PEOPLE ON THIS SATURDAY!

OK - so my friend's birthday is this weekend and she's looking for a place for brunch on Saturday for 10 people in the Marina del Ray area (could come as far north as Santa Monica, and Venice would also work). Was thinking Rose Cafe... OTHER THOUGHTS? Thanks!

You can also try Angelique Cafe - my husband and I go there all of the time for breakfast after we go to the flower mart.

From the Editor
The image of the toqued French chef doesn't fit Bruno Hervé, who typically wears shorts and black combat boots, but clearly the legions of loyal patrons don't care about his unorthodox ways. Bruno trained in Normandy, and he is a charcuterie (pork-butcher's shop) master. In addition to seductive pâté coated in parsley and the spicy merguez (sausage), there's a delicious smoked-salmon salad, a stellar cold eggplant-tomato casserole, even a decent cheese plate. Count on lots of double kissing at this casual bistro, especially on the patio, where the French contingent dominates.

Good take-out sushi in Santa Monica

Sushi Sho on Montana at 12th (or 13th... not sure). Don't let the little shop fool you - you can pick up the pre-made stuff or order special orders to go. Either way - it's close and yummy.

Dr. Atkins snacks

You can make a lot of lo-card desserts by replacing the sugar with splenda and the chocolate with any lo-card plain chocolate bar. I took the Jean-George chocolate mouse recipe and turned it totally lo-card - husband didn't even notice!

Napa on a budget?

This actually helps me, too (thanks for posting, katg!) I'm going to Yountville in a couple of weeks and this post made me think about pairing down a meal or two to keep costs down. Redd's bar menu sounds like a plan!
