Savannah/Charleston and in between

My husband and I are heading from New York City to Charleston for a wedding and since we have never been, decided to take five days so we also can visit Savannah. We will have time for two dinners in each city and I have made reservations at Old Pink House and Husk (though not sure if we should eat at McCrady's instead). Thinking of The Grey and Figs for the other nights. Would love to hear from people as to their favorites in each city and where we should stop for lunch on the two drives between Savannah and Charleston.

Thanks from two Northeast city folks who love to try regional best when they travel.

Best eats near Downtown

Thanks to all - we took 15 to Stiles Switch and the East Coast folks were very happy. Afterwards hung out for hours at the Continental Club, terrific Austin evening. For a totally different experience four of us had a subdued dinner at Olamaie - some amazing flavors.

Breakfast/lunch near downtown Hilton

Thanks to all for your suggestions - Ended up spending most mornings at Royal Blue Grocery for outstanding coffee and Easy Tiger for lunch. Easy Tiger became a favorite spot for lots of folks at the conference.Had time one day for breakfast at the Drikill - delicious huevos rancheros.

Federicksburg and Texas Hill Country

My friend and I will be in Federicksburg for two nights and exploring the hill country. Would love home cooking/Texas local food suggestions. We are from New York and DC and can get upscale dining back home.

Thanks for suggestions

Best eats near Downtown

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Any advice on where a large group of folks - at least 15- should go; would one of the BBQ places work - wasn't sure if there would be enough seating; or Mexican?

New Orleans trip in May and Birthday dinner

Hi,

Heading from New York to New Orleans for the first time to visit my son and celebrate a big birthday. Will have three dinners and thinking of Autumn, Bayou, and Peche. Are there others I should consider. Thought we would go to Commander's for the jazz brunch. All food suggestions would be appreciated. Also - would love some jazz recommendations

Thanks

Best eats near Downtown

Hi,

I live in New York and will be at a conference in May at the Hilton. Would love suggestions either nearby or a short taxi ride. Open to all types of food but particularly looking for the restaurants that should not be missed and that are local. One night will be going out with a group of friends and looking to spend approximately $60.00 per person. Also, what is the best barbecue where you don't have to wait on line for an hour.

Thanks

5 nights in Capetown

Thanks Erica - we love markets and this sounds terrific. Is it just a morning market - as we have a bunch or excursions planned. Will be sure to give an update when we return

5 nights in Capetown

Thanks Erica. Appreciate your tips. Yes - the taxi ride to la Colombe was a deciding factor. We live in New York City so are spoiled with great food close by.

5 nights in Capetown

Thanks Erica,

We actually were trying to figure where to eat on a Sunday. Staying at the Cape Heritage downtown, but the Roundhouse does not seem like a long taxi ride. I was referring to places like La Colombe, which is a long and pricey taxi ride.

5 nights in Capetown

Thanks Erica - I have been wondering about Sunday night. We are staying at the Cape Heritage Hotel downtown, but the taxi ride to Roundhouse does not appear that long. I was referring to restaurants like La Colombe which is a costly and long taxi ride.

5 nights in Capetown

Sorry - have not had a chance to check in for a few days. I have noticed that Capetown has a number of well regarded french, italian, sophisticated restaurants. We would love to eat a more local cuisine place - Not sure i that is Malay traditional food or not. Really would prefer that it was not a place that caters to tourists.

Thanks so much,

5 nights in Capetown

Hi,

My husband and I will be in Capetown for 5 nights in early September. Plan to go to Roundhouse and Savoy Cabbage and looking for other suggestions. Test Kitchen is booked and do not want to taxi for 20 minutes. Would love to add on a seafood restaurant and an african/South African restaurant. Please tell me your favorites - any local places would be terrific.

Thanks

Portland Best Places

Hi,

I will be at a conference in the Hilton next week for four nights and looking for some great food suggestions. We do have reservations at the Beast for a splurge, and Little Bird. Is there another must for dinner. Also, would love some breakfast/lunch ideas not too far from the Hilton.

Thanks

Cannon Beach

Hi,

I will be at Cannon beach for a few days in late April before heading to Portland for a conference. I have heard about Mo's, but are there additional places to recommend for dinner/lunch; is there a good breakfast place in town - great coffees.

Thanks
