I normally shop for wine at hollywood vine. I think they have a great selection, have great wine by the glass offerings and often buy wine to take home. The owner is very friendly and he and his staff very knowledgeable. They have a good selection.
However, twice I have tried to go to Vino, on Harrison and 19th because Hollywood Vine was closed. Both times I had the WORST experiences! The first time, I went in looking for a bottle of Valopolicella. I asked the girl sitting at the hostess desk and she went to ask someone else if they had it because she had NO Idea what I was talking about. In the time it took her to go ask, I found a bottle and was ready to purchase it. However after standing there for 10 minutes watching her talk to another staff member at the back bar, I left the bottle and walked out.
Today, I decided to give them a second chance, for the same reason (Hollywood Vine had already closed). I asked if they had any chilled bottles of white wine to take home, it took her three tries to answer my question. When she finally responded I went to look at the bottles only to turn around and see that she was busy playing solitaire in the computer and that is why it took her so long to order. After I selected the bottle I went to her to tell her what I wanted, but a gentleman (who looked like the owner) was too busy trying to sell me a card so that I would stay rather than listening to me. I finally purchase a bottle (for about $5 more than I have paid for the same bottle at Hollywood Vine) and get home to find out that it was improperly stored and tasted like vinegar. I will NEVER return.
