Tara Inn
Havent been out to Scarborough for a bit and am wondering on how the two Tara inn's ( Eglinton and Kingston) are doing?
Are the wings, onion rings and Irish breakfasts stil top notch? The decor the same?
If anyone has been lately and would like to share, that would be great.

SOUP
Greetings Hounds,
As the winter season has befallen us, I plan on embarking a season long search for local soup chowhound worthy venues. I'm interested in the following
GTA Based-pref in the city will venture to burbs
Both sit down or take away venue options
Unique and traditional based soups
Value ( now I know this is subjective)
Thanks Hounds and I look forward to your soup rec's
RUB or Blue Smoke?
have to agree. been to both and I have been disappointed by BS on more than occasion as while the food is ok, it isn't great. I also that many of the patrons at blue smoke are wanna be bbq aficionado's who are attracted by the upscale decor and the corporate crowd.
23rd street / 6th and 7th Avenue- What's good in the neighborhood?
how about Parea on 20th just east of 5th? one of the most interesting menus in the city
Phil's Barbeque - Good Ribs
Dipamo's was nothing special. It survived on yuppy North Toronto families who were far from food lovers.
Ive always thought Phil's was ok.I wouldn't rave about Phil's ribs even though I do think they are decent. Phil's merely accentuates what a dearth of quality bbq joints Toronto has.
Little Tibet? Been Lately?
its on Queen street around Manning street. It's a neighbourhood restaurant that draws some of their clientèle from outside the immediate vicinity. Some find Tibetan food rather bland but, i like their beef momos.
Jerusalem: new location , old disappontments
I second the rec on Tabule. Very worthwhile dining destination when craving Mid-East cuisine. I'm partial to their fattoush salad and their fried eggplant.
Cosy Hungarian on Kingston Road?
Cosy Hungarian is good dining option in the east end of the city. Ive always enjoyed the food and felt it was good value.
For those of us more centrally located who remember Country Style downtown, the previous owners have resurfaced in a little restaurant called Elizabeths on Yonge just north of Davisville. Anther worthwhile Hungarian option.
tapas in toronto
I dont know how I feel about Torito's. We have been there twice and while I found the service to be very attentive and pleasant, I found the dishes relatively standard. I may have to eat there again to form a solid opinion of the place but, as of now I am undecided as to whether Torito's get so much praise because there is a dearth of quality tapas in TO or because I am missing something
Cheap eats for medium sized party
Barridas on Dundas west. Portuguese and has an awesome patio if warm weather is an option.
Ikaros
went back there for lunch today. awesome value. The menu is more limited than their dinner menu obviously but, the 6 main options are very well prepared and extremely well priced.
Advice on Wedding Venue Options.
hmmm..tough one to combine a "real" foodie experience with a wedding for 150 people. Not everyone is a foodie unfortunately. Have you considered the King Eddy or the Carlu?
John's Italian Food, on Baldwin
Baldwin street is a very good street for food options in that neighbourhood but, I would not rank John's as one of the destination points.
Favorite Seinfeld food moments
my favourite is when Kramer gets an assistant from NYU who then starts formally calling Jerry to invite him to the coffee shop.
And when Jerry calls the assistant back to inform Kramer that Elaine will be joining them for lunch, Kramer loses his cool and starts screaming at the assistant for not having the message relayed to him. Classic!!
Is it Valid to Suggest that Ethnic/foreign Cuisines Can BEST be judged by Members of that Ethnic Group??
the answer to your question is NO.
Top 5 Burgers
I like the Shack's burger for it's taste but, I do have to say that I find it quite thin for my to categorise it as number 1.
Casa Loma as venue.
I have to agree on a few points here. I have hosted events at Casa Loma and for a smaller, more intimate group it may be a bit too regal and vast. It certainly provides a great location and gives your guests a "wow" factor it just depends on what atmosphere you wish to create.
Greek recs near Yonge & Eglinton? TIA
we have also had very good dining expereinces at Ikaros.
Best Greasy spoon Diner in TO?
Good Bite and Vesta are the two that come to mind for an authentic greasy spoon experience. Both are more than just a diner, they are TO landmarks.
Prague - - fine dining
we have also had a nice meal with a great view at Bellevue. I also hear it has just been renovated and they should still have the piano bar and jazz there on the weekends.
Lai Wah Heen vs. Lai Toh Heen (in terms of atmosphere)
also depends what part of the city you'll be dining in.
LTH is at Mt.Pleasant and Eg.
LWH is at University and Dundas.
Chicago-Style Italian Beef Sandwiches in Toronto?
Chicago beef snadwich is very thin slow roasted beef on a solid chunk of vienna bread with a healthy dose of giardiniera which is a garlic infused, pepper-spiced vegetable relish. Usually get in when I'm CHitown, though I tend to favour it more in the winter than the summner. There used to be a place in Cicero that had awesome sandwiches.
Milos Greek Restaurant
Im sorry you had an unfortunate time at Milos. this is rare. The service issue should certainly be addressed. However I'm also sorry that you find it odd that there would be bones to picked out of a whole fish??
and Mythos is good btw.
Is Winnipeg really a Wasteland? (moved from Canada board)
Wiinipeg is absolutely not a wasteland. Its culinary scene is not as expansive as Toronto however, there are many choices to be had in the Peg, (many already mentioned).
I second Basils, and MirlyCourtois.
The Best Pizza
DPH is indeed a good pie. That strech of danforth actually used to have quite a few hound spots back when it was more southern Italian.
Bye Bye Eisenberg's Sandwich Shop
I dont have much good to say about Eisenberg's unfortunately.
A Good Burger
I regret to inform that Steak Queen at VicPark and Lawrence is now closed. pity.
