Heart Shaped Ravioli

Wow that looks delicious! I got lucky. I didn't find any premade and I fessed up my plan to my SO with the idea that maybe in the future, when my work schedule isn't so crazy, I could make them for him. Well, he surprised me and made some on his own! He did a beef filling with a homemade vodka sauce. He used a plastic heart shaped container (that held M&Ms) as the cutter. They ended up looking very cute and were quite tasty!

Heart Shaped Ravioli

I'm on a mission to find pink/red heart shaped ravioli for Valentine's Day. It's a running joke between my fiance and I, as neither of us are big Valentine's Day celebrators, yet we shared this dish on our first Valentine's date together 3 years ago (and it was delicious). I would love to surprise him with some pink pasta this year.

I did look into homemade ravioli recipes, but do not think I will be attempting that this year. Instead, I've found places online that will ship overnight for a pretty penny, but if there's somewhere in the Seattle area that makes or sells them that would be preferable. Any leads would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Restaurant/Bar Help

Thanks for the recommendations! I had thought about Steelhead, but I think parking is a major issue. We have Hale's on our list to try and I'm looking into Palisade.

Restaurant/Bar Help

Hello all,

I am hoping for some advice about locations for a work- related gathering.

The ideal requirements are (in order of importance):
- In the greater Seattle area, with a Seattle feel and casual ambiance
- Space for 30 people (ideally with a room we could reserve, but if not would need enough space for us).
- Good, reasonably priced food
- Easy parking
- Family friendly

Places we've gone to in the past include Eastlake Bar and Grill, Ivar's, Bal Mar, Dad Watson's, Pyramid Brewing, Elysian Brewing. Attendents have had various issues with each one of these places, so I wanted to reach out to the greater Seattle community to see if there are any other recommendations.

An ideal place for us would be a place like Brave Horse Tavern, except family friendly.

Thank you very much!

Fun Seattle Wedding Favor Ideas?

Thanks for all the suggestions! We have awhile to come up with something so I'm going to let things marinate for a bit. We're actually coming back around to Fran's salted caramels as they are my favorite and I always bring them when I visit my family since they love them too. I think if we did coffee beans we'd probably do Cafe Vita as that is my fiance's favorite.

Fun Seattle Wedding Favor Ideas?

Hello Seattle Chowhounds-

I am writing for some help with brainstorming Seattle foods that would be fun wedding favors. I'm having my wedding in Philly (where I'm from), but being that my fiance and I have been living in Seattle for the past 2 years, it would be fun to include something special from Seattle in the celebration. Thoughts I have include Chukar Cherries (they do cute favor boxes) and/or Theo chocolate bars. I'm also toying with the idea of making mini favor baskets and buying some foods in bulk (including Fran's salted caramels, which I love but as a wedding favor carry a price tag that's too high for me). Total I'm looking to spend

Any other suggestions or ideas are appreciated!

In Search of Awesome Philly Wedding Caterer

Unfortunately the website for the Horticulture Center says it is not available for booking at present.

In Search of Awesome Philly Wedding Caterer

Thanks for the replies so far! My fiance and I are a bit quirky/nontraditional and so are looking for unique venues that are open to various caterers. Some thoughts we had are Bartram's Garden and The Mask and Wig Club. Maybe 30th Street Station (the husband to be is a SEPTA nut). It does sound like Top of the Tower has great service- my med school had our formal there one year and it was a lot of fun. We will definitely look into it- we'll be in Philly at the end of the summer so I'm trying to line up tastings for then.

In Search of Awesome Philly Wedding Caterer

Hello fellow Chowhounders! I'm in the midst of planning a wedding in Philly. I live in Seattle, but my fiance and I met in Philly and have lived there for several years (plus my whole family lives there). We're planning something dressy casual with a non denominational ceremony followed by dinner and dancing for 75-100 guests. We're thinking springtime for the big day and would like to have the whole shebang in one place (rather than ceremony at one place, reception at another).
We are both passionate about food and have no restrictions except I'd like to keep the food budget to
Food really is the most important aspect of our wedding, and I welcome any and all recommendations and leads (including restaurants that do catering). Nontraditional venues are also desirable, but not if it compromises the food significantly.

Thank you!

Food gifts from Seattle

Fran's salted caramels! They have a store in the ground floor of the Four Seasons or the Chocolate Box also sells them.

Foodie Walking Tour Seattle

On my tour we spent some time in the market, but also visited quite a few places downtown. I haven't done any of their market tours so am not sure what kind of overlap there is.

Foodie Walking Tour Seattle

I did the Gourmet Food tour when I was visiting and really enjoyed it. It was expensive, but I left full and with a lot of information. Now that I'm living here I'm not sure I'd do another one (unless with a visitor!) but it was a great way to spend an afternoon.

Seattle Takeout Sushi Recs?

Thanks for the recs! I will have to try them once I get out there!

Searching for Salad

Gia Pronto. I also like going to Grocery at 13th and Chestnut and making my own for takeout. I like Marathon's salads but they can be pricey depending on what you get. I had a really interesting and tasty salad at Sabrina's this weekend that was a special (and it was enormous, surprise!)- I'm unsure of their regular salad offerings.

red velvet cake for delivery

That's really interesting. I asked the owner once where the cake was from and he wouldn't tell me. It's a cream cheese frosting and it was a cake slice, not a cupcake. I never go to Flying Monkey- the one time I got a cupcake from there I threw most of it away, it was so awful.

red velvet cake for delivery

I love the red velvet cake at Golosa on S. 6th St, but I'm doubtful that they deliver.

Seattle Takeout Sushi Recs?

Hello fellow Chowhounders!

In a few weeks, I will be moving to Seattle from Philly to start my residency at UW. I am very excited to explore the PNW! As I will have limited free time, convenience is paramount, especially when it comes to food!

On those nights when I'm too tired to cook, I'd love for my default meal to be some awesome, reasonably priced sushi that I can pick up on my way home.

Currently, I'm looking to live in either Capitol Hill or Wallingford/Fremont so please keep suggestions limited to those areas...so far recs have been Liberty in Capitol Hill and Musashi's in Wallingford.

Thanks!

Tinto -what's a must?

short rib bocadillo

Roy's - Never Again

I had this happen to me a few years ago at Roy's. We didn't wait though- we left. And then I wrote an e-mail to the restaurant complaining and received a $75 gift certificate to return. I would recommend you do the same...maybe if enough people complain they will change their policy.

Center City Pubs

I had one appetizer at Time last week with my beer. Fried Veggies. Very disappointing. The batter was bland, the dipping sauces were bland...we didn't even finish it. Would have had more flavor if the vegetables were served by themselves! Maybe other dishes are better...

Coffeeshops with great food?

I used to study a lot at Tuscany. During the week they're usually okay with you sitting for awhile, but the weekends they will kick people out.

My biggest problem with Tuscany is that they steep the tea for you and their barristas do not know much about tea (or just get distracted) because they will let it steep WAY too long, to the point of being bitter, and I need to ask for a new tea. This has happened to me a handful of times...enough that it's not worth it to go back.

Coffeeshops with great food?

I forgot about LaVA! I've had their burekas before and they are yummy. Thanks!

Philadelphia BYOB suggestions?

Maybe a little bit further than you'd like, but walkable, is Mezza Luna on S. 8th st. I ate there over the summer and all of the dishes we had (branzino, gnocchi and rack of lamb) were excellent. Cucina Forte is right across the street with equally excellent gnocchi (and maybe more authentic because the chef whose gnocchi recipe is used at Mezza Luna is at Cucina Forte, if you care about that). But it's been a loooong time since I've eaten at Cucina- maybe someone who has been there more recently can comment?

Would also like to add that I didn't particularly like the gnocchi at "Gnocchi", another Italian byo in the area.

Coffeeshops with great food?

I am currently in the process of studying for my medical boards. While the library is nice, my preference is to set up shop at a nice coffeehouse and spend several hours there. It makes the experience a bit more pleasant. This of course means that beyond just coffee (or more likely tea, in my case), I am also having a meal or 2 there. Basically, I am looking for a place where
- I can sit for hours without feeling awkward
- Has wireless
- Has awesome food!

I've found plenty of places with the first two, the latter is a bit more elusive...

Don't cringe....Restaurant Week (Jan 25-30)

I went there last year for RW (before the price was upped to $35). The menu was very similar. I cannot remember what everyone had, but I do remember getting the spanakopita and the fish (which one, I can't remember). It was all good, but nothing sticks out as being particularly memorable or out of the ordinary.

Don't cringe....Restaurant Week (Jan 25-30)

I don't know what the menu is for Tinto, so can't comment on the value. I've been to Amada during RW and think it's a great deal. I believe you get a total of 5 plates (1 is dessert) and they're dishes off of the regular menu, although a limited selection. Check out the menu on the RW website and see if it interests you-I think it's worth it. At this point though, you may only find a table at 9:30!

Looking for tea in CC Philly

Another place is Remedy Tea Bar on Sansom between 16th and 17th.

Eating Local After it Freezes...

It is relatively new (across the street from the restaurant and cafe), although I wasn't aware that they sold beer.

Eating Local After it Freezes...

Pumpkin Market at 16th and South has local produce.

real Moroccan in center city Philly

I went in yesterday and had the lamb with spicy red peppers, zucchini and white beans. The lamb was tender and very flavorful and the peppers added a nice kick. The pita is different than what I am used to- thicker with a cornmeal?-like texture on the outside- it soaked up the juices of my sandwich nicely. I was very happy with my sandwich- although cannot comment on authenticity.
