Oyster Bar Grand Central

Yes, my post was deleted , reason being, inappropriate word, have adjusted language. I am delighted with the replies on corrected posting, will be having lunch at the Oyster Bar Saturday. Excited for "pan roast"! Thanks

Oyster Bar Grand Central

Hello, my husband and I will be midtown NYC this Saturday. He just read a review of the Oyster Bar pan roast recently touted in NY Magazine as a NY "superlative". Myself, I have read bad reviews of the Oyster Bar that include just fair service.
Hopefully, someone will be kind enough to give an opinion of this restaurant and their “pan roasted” items. This information will help us make our decision. We will be there for an early lunch. Also, alternative suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, bb22

Roman Memories--Long

Hello, What a wonderful narration! My husband and will be in Rome for 10 nights celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary early October. We'll be staying in the Trastevere area and will walk the city or use public transportation. I also would appreciate your list, portia22@gmail.com. Your trip is amazing filled with wonderful thoughts, suggestions and love. Thanks, BB

DC Embassy Row

I just read your review of Latino Dim Sum Brunch. What a memory you have! What a litany of exotic courses. Was each dim sum course offered individually or served buffet style? You brought my memories back to Boston where I grew up and having dim sum in Boston Chinatown. There, each small dish was offered from a cart stacked high with bamboo steamers each holding a tasty exotic morsel. This cart was rolled table to table with the serving person lifting the lid off the steamer to let you see what was on the plate. Many times we didn’t know exactly what it was we were eating. The person who served spoke Chinese only. I liked the dumplings, all types, and my husband the chicken feet which I also enjoyed. The tab was ongoing and kept on the table, all in Chinese. This was many years ago. I like to think that it is still the same. BB

Daves 32, Thank you for your appreciated suggestions, the definition of "moderately priced", approximately $40 per makes sense to us. We both like the Ethiopian suggestion, Etete, also, Greek. Our recent stay in Paris taught us there is a wide spread between "euro moderate" and “US moderate”, also, as you state, the term I used " moderately priced". There should be rules!. Back to Paris, we had a wonderful Parisian experience made better by CHOW members suggestions. Bebe

EMBASSY ROW addendum

Hello once more, I forgot to add that restaurants in the moderately priced range would be appreciated, ethnic, small and unique if possible. Thanks again, bebe22

DC Embassy Row

Good Day Chows, This is a late request, but, here it is. Tomorrow, husband and I travel from G-ville, FL to DC for three overnights. We will be staying in the vicinity of Dupont Circle. We enjoy all kinds of good food and will be using public transportation. Thank you, bb22

Tap or bottled water in Paris?

Paris tap water is safe and has a clean taste, so a refillable bottle would make sense, more euros for chow and wine. It also makes sense, as already stated, when in a bistro or restaurant to ask for a carafe of tap. This has no charge. Many places when you ask for water will automatically bring a bottle of sparkling, which has a charge. Have fun!

Paris/Marais -- L'As du Falafel closed for Passover?

I just returned from Paris staying in the Marais. Lucky us, we were able to have falafel two days before Passover began. After that, notices on deli/restaurant/falafel places in the Marais read that they would reopen on the 28th of April. Hope this helps

Museum Restaurants Paris

Recently reading a Forbes travel report about the 10 most wonderful museum restaurants in the world! the Pompidou was mentioned as one of the 10. That made me wonder about other Parisian museum restaurants. Has any one eaten at the Pompidou, or any other of the museum restaurants in Paris? Thanks, bb22

APRIL IN PARIS

Thank you for your shuttle suggestion, we have arranged a shuttle from CDG to our hotel. I'm still thinking of your phrase "My wife could make a feast of a shoe"! Lucky you, bb22

APRIL IN PARIS

My husband and I have decided to put L'Os a Moelle in the 15th on our dining list, also, thanks for the other suggestions, bb22

APRIL IN PARIS

Thank you for your kind suggestions. We are also falafel lovers and will most definitely eat at L'As du Falafel. bb22

APRIL IN PARIS

Hello Chows, my husband and I value your opinions and have been led by your suggestions to new and unusual places and local food sites. This time we are staying 10 nights in April at the Hotel Caron de Beauchais, rue Vieille du Temple , Paris. We are both in our early seventies, but, I must say fit and able to walk great distances and have stamina, also, enjoy tasty food and french wines. This is the first time we have traveled together to Paris, myself 20 years ago for 9 days studying architecture and art. We are looking for suggestions to: get from CDG to our hotel, small bistros and restaurants in Marais, the 3rd, 4th , 5th , 6th , districts and other places to eat that are local, charming and not over the hill pricewise. I did read that for museum fare the Pompidou is very good. Opinions? Years ago, one of the Paris museums that I found most interesting was the Cluny. Although, when there, the Roman part was not open. Maybe someone can answer this. Near the Cluny there is a medieval charnel house preserved wonderfully, the post and beams are carved with scull and cross bones. I just can’t find a mention of this on the Internet, alas, my notes are lost forever. We appreciate all replies, Thank you, bebe22

Tallahassee Gratitude Reply Liams

First, thanks for all replies , they really helped make our decision. We left the G-ville area, friends Destin, to arrive Tallahassee noon as planned to meet downtown visitor center for lunch. Bad planning, no parking, envision two cars driven by older Americans trying to park to meet deadline 12 noon- bad scene. Somehow we connected and left Tallahassee to make a speedy drive to Thomasville, Georgia for just under the wire timewise for lunch at Liams. This was a day of unplanned firsts, being in Thomasville and finding Liams the best ( this was due to Chow). There we enjoyed a leisurely lunch, even unhurried, by a friendly staff who were just finishing their lunch hour. My husband and I enjoyed fried oysters, their sweet crispness complemented by black sesame seeds tucked within the batter and an organic green salad. Our friends made yum sounds as they munched on their deluxe chicken and hamburg luncheon sandwiches. The space itself is cosy and interesting with bright art work hung on walls that reflect an old timey world. What else could anyone want

Tallahassee recommendations?

Chowhounds, thanks for all your fabulous advise, your suggestions enabled us to visit and eat in out of the way and way places from California to Maine. This was just last summer, meaning more to go. We live in the Gainesville, FL area and are planning a one day trip to Tallahassee, FL to meet old , really old, friends. We will have one meal together, probably a late lunch. Reading the boards I see Kool Beanz and Sage mentioned. Is there anyone out there with any other recommendations? Thank you all, BB

Eating at Plimouth Plantation

Before leaving the Plymouth area after living there 30 years we decided to have our last Thanksgiving dinner at Plymouth Plantation a wonderful historical site. The dinner we attended was Victorian in theme and a disaster, won't go into details , but, an all around culinary disaster. We also went to events held at PP that were catered and were quite lovely but expected. I would suggest not eating there that based on our experiences. Authentic food , real tasty, Casa Brazil in N Plymouth for lunch. The Portuguese were in the cape area on the heels of the English, possibly before! Enjoy PP, BB

Camden, Rockport, Rockland,Tenents Harbor,Thomaston,Maine

Hi, thanks for the quick post, we leave tomorrow, two days in MA then to Tenents Harbor. The last time I was there was 15 years ago, I remember a little general store in Tenents Harbor that sold baked beans on Sat nights. Honestly I didn't think that they were so good. We'll follow your suggestions, They are great., BB

Brazillian cuisine in Plymouth, Ma

Hi, I lived in the Plymouth area for 33 years and was very excited when Casa Brazil opened. I am Portuguese decent: although, not Brazilian. The fiestas are similiar, the food very close. In fact, I enjoy the Brazilian better than mainland. The stews and black bean and meat buffet presentations are very tasty and authentic. Also, huge Portuguese sweet breads to self carve and serve is fantastic, Enjoy this wonderful addition to Plymouth.

Lucky us , we'll be travelling to the St George Peninsula, Maine and staying in Tenants Harbor- Port Clyde area, rented a house. Have been there many years ago, for painting excursions. Looking for good places to eat really fresh seafood. As a Boston transplant living in Gainesville, Florida, we yearn for fish coming from the cold northern Atlantic. I have fond memories of a little place in Thomaston for breakfast-lunch. Thanks for the wonderful advise Carmel area, ate at The Fishwife Cafe and it was wonderful.

Carmel, CA

Would appreciate information fresh seafood restaurants, we love fresh produce, tasty flavors, here visiting from Gainesville, FL, Thanks
