Dress Code

We will have been touring the national parks for two weeks and don't relish the thought of carrying around sports coats. So we will wear dress Dockers, collared shirt and nice shoes. Our reservations are at 7:30 so I'm hoping we'll be OK. Thanks for all the great guidance.

Gourmet Food Stores in Pittsburgh

Does anyone know of any gourmet type of food stores in the Pittsburgh area? A cousin who loves to cook just moved to Pittsburgh, but is having a hard time finding some unique food stores. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Red Dog Cafe Silver Spring

Went there tonight for dinner. Waited 35 minutes for our appetizer of seasonal dips with fresh pita. The dips were fine, but the pita was half cooked and raw in the middle. We each got a pizza and although the toppings were fine, again, the dough was only half cooked. We had been to the Red Dog before for dinner and had sandwiches -- not bad. Tonight's dinner, however, will make us think twice about returning again. Would have been better off going to the Parkway Deli.

General Store in Silver Spring - Report

We used to be big fans of Gillian Clark's Colorado Kitchen and we went there 2-3 times a month. Tonight we decided to try The General Store. Walked in, could not figure out how to get seated and stood around for 5 minutes without anyone behind the counter giving us any guidance. Finally a customer told us it was order at the counter, wait for your food, and then carry it to a table. And they call this a restaurant? Please, who wants to go to what is essentially a cafeteria when it purports to be a restaurant. No thanks. We walked out without even ordering any food and will not return. What a disappointment.

Walter's Restaurant in Providence, RI

Has anyone been to Walter's Ristorante d'Italia on Federal Hill in Providence lately? We're thinking of going there next weekend and wanted to see if the food is still as spectacular as I remember it from two years ago.

Anchovies and tuna

You can order Ortiz anchovies online from www.LaTienda.com. Also, have you tried looking for them at Balducci's?

Aaron's Best Whole Turkey

Does anyone know if Aaron's Best Whole Turkey is sold anywhere in the DC area? It was rated best by Cooks Illustrated and I'd like to try one.

Monday Night Dinner in Providence

I hear good things about New Rivers, but have never been there. I can highly recommend Gracies and Chez Pacqual, both outstanding restaurants.

DC girl coming home...looking for Shrimp & Grits

Vidalia at 1990 M St. NW has wonderful shrimp and grits.

Choucroute garnie and cassoulet

Les Halles at 1201 Pennsylvania Ave. has a very good choucroute garnie. Also, L'Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls has a very authentic version.

Manoli Canoli

Has anyone tried Manoli Canoli in Chevy Chase? It is located on Connecticut Ave in the location of the former Marcella's. We are considering going there tomorrow, but thought I would first find out if anyone has any comments on the food.

Chicago Bakery

A colleague at work from Chicago remembers something called "Stanley's 3 o'clock bread." This was approximately 40 years ago. I'm trying to locate the bakery and find out if they still bake this bread. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated?

Maestro

You will find the food very nice, but certainly not the best in the DC area. You will, however, experience one of the most amateurish wait staff I have ever encountered in an upscale restaurant. That alone made the experience less than stellar and a disappointment.

Restaurant Eve Recently?

We went to Restaurant Eve in February and the food was "knock your socks off" wonderful. The service is very nice and attentive without being intrusive and the atmosphere is quiet, very comforting, and nicely appointed. In my estimation it is one of the best restaurants in Washington. We're going back again next month.

Bezu in Potomac

A friend and I are thinking of going to Bezu in Potomac Village. The Washington Post gave it a pretty good review. Would like to hear from anyone who has been there during the past couple of months.
