The Market at Santa Monica Place

Visiting from out of town solo, I stopped at Primi and had an amazing $5 meal. I got the eggplant in the case and it was outstanding. Layers of eggplant with good sauce and minimal cheese.

I am going back to try the Curious Palate and Venokado tomorrow

Staying ay Loews Sanata Monica this weekend - no car - where to eat.

I'm here now and managed to find the Whole Foods first. It is by far the smallest Whole Foods I have ever seen. Check out Chicago's South Loop and Lincoln Park stores!

I stopped in Musha and contemplated the soon tofu but was a bit overwhelmed by the menu and not very hungry at the time.

After a lot of shopping for the baby, I finally made it to the food court at Santa Monica place.

I had an excellent eggplant lasagna type item for $5. Can't knock that. Just layers of eggplant with sauce and minimal cheese. Want to go back just for that!

I made a reservation for Fig but cancelled it. Way too much fun stuff to check out elsewhere!

Sounds great. Definitely checking out Fig!

Sadly my 2 yr old is staying home but it allows me to dine slower.

I saw the other post but am more like a middle aged senior citizen!

LA has changed a lot since I lived there

after reading posts am looking at going to Fig or the Blue plate oysterette

I am traveling solo from Chicago without a car and am saddened that I Cuguni ( spinach bread) is no more

I am sure Benito's frites are also long gone

Any good authentic Asian in the area of the hotel?

Nothing too pricey though it is my one chance to get out without my 2 year old!!

has anyone bought one?

How does this model compare to the original All Clad 3 qt stainless (which I love)?

Decorated cookie favors

As a party favor I've received decorated cookies - some of which looked good but didn't taste good. As a chowhound, I want anything I give out to taste good as well as look good.

Any suggestions?

It's for a baby birthday party.

Chicago CSA - recomnmend yours!

I am researching CSA's. The Trib had an article about Harvest Moon delivering to the Aon building and also listed a few others.

Any favorable recommendations for any CSA's you've used?

Cuisinart Smart Stick owners - can it handle frozen strawberries?

Thanks so much. I can always thaw the strawberries in the microwave first or use a real blender for them.

Cuisinart Smart Stick owners - can it handle frozen strawberries?

I wandered into Sur LaTable to check out immersion blenders after trying the mega heavy but impressive Bamix at Williams Sonoma. Still in the box is the $30 Cuisinart Smart Stick 200 Watts (more than my now defunct Braun).

Before I break it out, will this work on whole frozen strawberries? They did advise me not to use it for ice cubes.

Sure I'd love to have a Bamix but for $150? Should I spend the extra money for the Kitchenaid at $89-99? I'm not trying to make pesto, mayo, just smoothies and it's main use will be for making marinara weekly.

Recommend an easy to clean mini food processor/chopper

I got the smart stick for $30 after I saw how large the mixing up was for the Kitchenaid (which was $100). I'm going to try the budget approach of using what I already own for the chopping.... and then maybe get the mini prep!

Weight of KA, Cuisinart and Bamix immersion blenders

I read that post which is what scared me. However, I can't find a weight for the Kitchenaid!

Weight of KA, Cuisinart and Bamix immersion blenders

My Braun was superlight. I picked up a Kitchenaid at Target and nearly had a stroke. It was as heavy as the Bamix. I tried the much cheaper Cuisinart but the business end had been removed from the store.

Has anyone had experience with these and are as weak as I am?

HELP! Braun hand blender died

I'm pretty sure mine is dead. It smoked and then I saw a bright spark.....
Unfortunately the other hand blenders are so much heavier!

Kitchenaid owners - I just checked out the one at Target - it was as heavy as the Bamix!

Recommend an easy to clean mini food processor/chopper

I was considering replacing my Braun immersion blender/chopper with a Kitchenaid that costs $100. However I could just get a $30 Cuisinart Smart Stick and a mini food processor type thing. I just want something to chop nuts (other than banging on a ziploc with a meat tenderizer), shred some cheese, shred a few carrots.

Any suggestions other than getting an immersion blender?

HELP! Braun hand blender died

I've been looking at the Bamix and it looks amazing. It's a bit more but I think would have more power/longevity than the KA. I would just add the grinder attachment.

HELP! Braun hand blender died

Regarding your LC (hopefully you mean LeCreuset), I used the now dead Braun almost weekly to make sauce.

Occasionally I used it to chop nuts or shred carrots. Actually the blade in the cup did the cutting and the blender just turned the blade.

I don't need massive power to whip or puree, just enough to do those things. I'm still balking at paying $70 for a few attachments!

HELP! Braun hand blender died

What a price difference - $80-100 for the Kitchenaid with attachments vs $30 for just stick blender by Cuisinart! I loved the chopper with the blade in the cup. Is it worth $70?

HELP! Braun hand blender died

I shorted out my Braun hand blender which I use every other week to make sauce. I also loved the attachments which saved me from using the food processor.

I searched the forums for another immersion blender but I really want the attachments to make little purees (especially now that I have a baby!) - so much easier to clean.

Kitchen Aid? Cuisinart? Viking? The Swiss brand that doesn't have any attachments?

I need to order ASAP! Thanks

Best cupcakes in town?

I just tried Phoebes today. Amazing. The cake is good as well as the frosting. It is so far neck and neck with Sugar Bliss.

Carol's oatmeal raisin cookie

I avidly followed the Carol's cookie post about replicating the chocolate cookie. However, does anyone have any idea on how to make the oatmeal raisin cookie which I adore?

How do you like your oatmeal?

I love my oatmeal like a spackle consistency - I use half the water recommended!

However, when making steel cut oatmeal I do use the normal proportions recommended.

Love oatmeal with bananas and cut up Fuji apples.

My favorite comfort food - day and night.

What do you cook when you are too tired and just not in the mood?

1) Oatmeal with bananas/apples
2) 3 min brown rice (trader joes) with frozen broccoli and pasta sauce

Best cupcakes in town?

Dinkel's cupcakes - great value, cake very good, icing pretty good
Highwood seems very very far away.
Actually I had never tried Swirlz which had better icing than Dinkel's but twice the price. I mistook Molly's for Swirlz. So far Sugar Bliss is my favorite.
