Olive Oil---What Brand Do You Use and Where do you buy it?
I just started using Apollo Olive Oil - organic from California - and am really impressed. I highly recommend checking out their site which has tons of info on olive oil's properties in general. Also their milling process is pretty fascinating. http://apollooliveoil.com/press.php

Thank you Robert for your wealth of information. I had some nice meals at Curriez but agree completely that the quality took a nose dive. I can't wait to check out India Grill downtown. I was very sad when it closed. Every 'downtown' should have at least one Indian restaurant. Now I'll be very happy if we can get an Ethiopian restaurant, which is my new favorite cuisine.

Shoot, I wish I'd seen this. That place looks good. I'm up visiting the area about once every six weeks or so so I'll have to check it out next time. We ended up eating at a hibachi Japanese place. Sakura I think.

Birthday dinner- tomorrow night- Tampa/Carollwood
Hope you had a nice birthday tonight. I was going to recommend going to Choxotica Chocolate Bar on Ehrlich Rd. after dinner for to-die-for chocolate drinks. You could still go Saturday I suppose. They're open till 9pm.
Indian food in Pinellas County
As a follow up, I ate here on Easter after a few weeks of anticipation. They were out of eggplant so I didn't get the dish I originally ordered so I got the veg korma. I'd never had it before and I wanted to try something new. It was an 'okay' dish, very mild and slightly creamy. Not my favorite Indian dish but that's alright as I'll be going back often. My dining companion had the lamb vindaloo and oh my gosh - it was delicious. The St. Pete Times reviewer said it was their favorite dish they tried and I'd agree - very tasty and addictive. I'll be ordering the vindaloo on my next visit.
The naan was fresh and toasty, just how I like it. Even enjoyed the papadum and the accompanying chutneys.
Glad to have Taste of Punjab in the area and can't wait to go back.

80's Fun Fruits
Man these were the best! I always wonder if any fruit snacks made today have a similar flavor/texture but I seriously doubt it. The berry and grape flavors were so good - I remember them so vividly.

Wow - lots of moves for one little place! I think my favorite spot at the moment is ABC Seafood. The best Chinese place in the county I think; super fresh seafood swimming around in the tanks - all packed into a shabby strip mall. Yours?

Hi Dumas! You're probably right. My sister and brother-in-law would love to open a franchise but you obviously gotta have a lot of coin.
I just made the Cincinnati Lentils last night - it's really good stuff. Of course I pile on the cheddar cheese and hot sauce. That just makes the whole dish so comforting for me. I'm sure you could use the slow cooker for the recipe. Basically you're just dumping everything into a pot anyway. I like to saute my veggies first but that's optional since it simmers for a while.

Can I come to your party? The pulled pork and cheddar combo reminds me of barbeque nachos. Serve your skins with a little barbeque sauce for dipping, along with the whatever else you were planning. Let us know how they turn out.

I second this. Ulmerton + pedestrians = not a good combo. Cafe Ponte is the best you can do in the area. I'd take a cab there and have a drink and an app or two.

Skyline Chili Fix via the Web
I'm in FL and we have a Skyline Chili 30 minutes from my house. People seem to loathe it completely or totally love and crave it. I happen to love it: the total package of mild spices, cheddar cheese, al dente spaghetti, hot sauce, and the crackers. I've stopped eating beef but now I make it at home using lentils instead of meat. Sounds crazy but it's delicious and almost like the real thing.

Coming to Tampa Bay for the Super Bowl?
Hi breakaway, there's some excellent information in past threads regarding seafood joints in the area. Some widely agreed-upon places include Guppy's (mentioned below) on Indian Rocks Beach, Mid Peninsula, Ted Peter's (awesome smoked fish), and Wild Shrimp Company (drive up joint near Tropicana Field-fried shrimp, po boys, gumbo!) in St. Pete, Crazy Conch Cafe and Billy's Stone Crab in Tierra Verde, You can get really fresh seafood (live tanks!) at two phenomenal Chinese restaurants: ABC Seafood in St. Pete and China Yuan in Tampa. Another place worth checking out in St. Pete is the Parkshore Grill. You can dine al fresco facing the pier and the water. Also next door to some fine gelato.
Breakfast. Skyway Jack's in St. Pete. It's a local institution.
sasserwazr: I think you'll garner more recommendations if you can narrow things a bit. For example, if there's a particular type of food you'd prefer, or whereabouts you'll be staying and how far you're willing to go (you'll have a car, yes?).
I can speak for Tampa and St. Pete and say we have pretty decent Thai, seafood, Chinese, pizza, Indian, Middle Eastern, and even Ethiopian.
