Malay Satay Hut
Try the Black Pepper Chicken - it's fabulous! There were a couple other endorsements for the Black Pepper dishes (crab and shrimp)
(SEA) good barbeque news
I concur - Greg's is the best BBQ we've found in the area. He does a very nice job with the brisket, but the caveat is that it is generally only available after 5pm. Word of advice: if you stop by for lunch, and they are offering the brisket, I'd skip it because it hasn't had enough time to cook. We found the dinner serving of brisket to be much more tender than the lunch portion. While the sides are nothing to write home about, it's at least a sigh of relief to have a place to get some decent BBQ.
Izumi in Kirkland
Sit at the sushi counter. Shito is the best, but he only prepares for patrons at the counter. The monkfish liver is excellent, scallops divine, spot prawns (when available) are great. Everything is good at Izumi.
Best Fish Taco in Seattle
Three recommendations for you for good fish tacos:
- Agua Verde (http://www.aguaverde.com/) in the U District
- Mezcal Grill (http://www.mezcalgrill.com/) at the Juanita Village in Kirkland
- Ooba's (http://oobas.com/) in Woodinville
Where to eat in Bothell?
Try Main Street Alehouse (next to Pen Thai). Food is better than your average "pub fare" and great beers on tap.
Cod Cheeks
Whole Foods also carries halibut cheeks. I bought some the last time I was there - they had a good range of sizes. My preference is for the smaller cheeks as I find the larger ones a bit tough.
Good Eats Near Edmonds?
If you don't mind going a little north, try Alligator Soul in Everett (http://www.alligatorsoulrestaurant.com/). Fabulous food! Chef Ryan knows his stuff.
Good Eats Near Edmonds?
I second Olives Wine Bar. We've eaten there several times and have always had a good experience.
Spot shrimp: Hood Canal
Some friends of ours recently picked up live spots from Central Grocery in Mill Creek, however we have not been able to find them.
Irish Pub/Food
Try Kell's (http://www.kellsirish.com/) in Post Alley - best I've found so far in Seattle.
Cooking class recommendations - Seattle
Fabulous! Thanks everyone for the recommendations.
Brew Pubs and cool shows in Seattle?
I second the Elysian Tangletown location and the Hilltop Alehouse. Also, another good recommendation is the Old Town Alehouse (in Ballard).
local wine clubs SEA
Check out Chateau Ste Michelle's "Vintage Reserve Club" - http://www.ste-michelle.com/Main_Aboutwineclub.cfm
New Taco Truck in Wallingford
Also, try La Carta de Oaxaca in Ballad. They serve some seriously good, no-fuss food. Atmosphere is very casual (European-style seating). No reservations. Gets very crowded, so show up early!
Orcas and San Juan Island---best bets
One of our favorite places in Friday Harbor is the Backdoor Kitchen ( http://www.backdoorkitchen.com/ ). It is in a really obscure location next to a nursery and is not very well signed, but once you find it you will be very happy you did. The food is fabulous! A must for your trip!!
Restaurants with live music + good food? SEA
Skip the place in Pioneer Square. If you want good Cajun food, go to Alligator Soul ( http://www.thealligatorsoul.com/ ) in Everett. It's a bit of a hike to get there, but they have some fabulous, authentic Cajun food. Plus, they usually have live music on the weekends and occaissionally during the week.

These are also great recommendations. Thanks again, everyone!

Cooking class recommendations - Seattle
Hi:
My wife and I are interested in taking some avocational cooking classes and were wondering if the fellow hounds have any recommendations for some good classes. Before moving to Seattle, we used to take some really good, in-depth, hands-on classes at the local culinary school, however we've yet to find anything like that here. Any suggestions?

Seattle Cakes
Try Dahlia Bakery (located next to Dahlia Lounge) or Macrina Bakery (in Belltown).
Veg Eats in Seattle near Convention Center / Hotel Max
While not located downtown, Carmelita http://www.carmelita.net/ is a fabulous vegetarian restaurant & is definitely worth the drive.

Dahlia Lounge
Harvest Vine

The Herbfarm (in case you can't get into one of the others)
Which is best HMart,Uwajimaya or Ranch 99?
Uwajimaya by far gets my vote - excellent selections, fresh, good prices. I don't know what the management of this Ranch 99 Market has done (or more like isn't doing), but it is disgusting. Their meat and seafood smells horrible. They are nothing at all like the Ranch 99 Market in Phoenix. Clearly, they do not have good quality control across their franchises.
Is there a best season for a the Herbfarm?
We went to The Herbfarm last October for their "Mycologist's Dream" dinner. Absolutely fabulous!! If you can wait until next Fall for shroom season, then I'd highly recommend this dinner. However, I don't think you can go wrong with any of their dinners.
Prepared food shop in Seattle for New Year's Eve party?
I concur with the Porcella and Ezell's endorsements. Definitely worth checking these out!
Seattle Convention Center (7th and Pike) Quick Lunch under $10?
Try Bambuza Vietnamese Bistro located at 820 Pike St (206.219.5555) - across from the Convention Center. Food is very good there and has a nice atmosphere.
Ultimate Resturants 2006 (SEA)
1. Dahlia Lounge
2. La Carta de Oaxaca
3. Serafina
4. The Herbfarm
5. Hilltop Alehouse
Vancouver Dining Suggestions
Sounds fabulous! Thanks for the recommendation. We'll definitely check this out. :-)
Vancouver Dining Suggestions
We will be spending a long Christmas-weekend in Vancouver (downtown) and wanted to see if the group has any dining recommendations for the area. Ideally, I'd like to hear your recommendations on place to really blow it out, and also something that's truly local and eclectic. Thanks in advance!
need a great dinner in Seattle
Try Tom Douglas' Palace Kitchen. The food is excellent and is more moderately priced than his other restaurants (Dahlia Lounge, Etta's). Plus, they serve food seven nights a week until 1:00am!
