Dinner for 20 out-of-town teenagers in Brooklyn, near park or downtown

How about Layla Jones or Sam's for pizza?

carroll gardens chinese help please!!!

I have found that if I order off the menu at China Hong Restaurant (187 Smith St) they will accommodate me, and it is pretty fresh and tasty, for "fluorescent light" Chinese.

Suggestions in Williamsburg

I always like going to Raymund's for soup and pirogies. The soup always is hearty and flavorful. And so are the usual assortment of strong friendly polish folks who fill the place. Not your typical hip crowd.

Relish and MonkeyTown are also nice.

The bread at the polish bakery on N.9 or N. 10 between Bedford and Berry is also nice.

Veggie Jamaican?

Over brunch recently, someone was telling me about great vegetarian places in Prospect Heights / Bed Stuy areas that were Jamaican / Rastafarian that they had heard about.

They sound great. Anybody have any information on them?

date with someone i only drunkenly know...

Go to Lucali's! Bring your own beer or wine. Sit out on the bench while you wait. It's pizza so it is casual, but with the candle light, has a very slight romantic feel.

Or, you could go to Long Tan and eat at the bar. Not the best thai, but when you eat at the bar, they have some cheap specials, and there are a lot of distractions, so there is always something to talk about.

Chipshop is also a fun place to sit at the bar and get some silly food and have small talk.

Help! Late-night place to eat for over and unders, downtown?

How about Veselka or any of the sushi places on St. Mark's?

Franny's slump?

I ate at Lucali's last night. Wow! The pizza is great! (My dining companion couldn't figure out why I wanted to get half with just plain cheese...) But, what really killed me was how visually intriguing the place is. There are no interior walls. And there is this funny, movie star looking guy making pizzas on a candlelight marble table. The tray of mozzerella infront of him looks like a decoration, until you see him rip one of them apart and put it on the pizza. Its like being in a cooking show / slash movie. And then you get the pizza. And realize that real life trumps media all the time.

other Peter Luger entrées

I've tasted the salmon at Peter Luger's, and it wasn't bad.

Although I am not the best judge when it comes to fish, as I rarely have it. (I am a usually strict vegetarian who about once a month to get meat as a festive occasion, usually steak. Someone wanted to come and watch the perversity of me eating steak. I had the perversity of watching them eat fish at Luger's!) I was particularly happy with the light, airy textures, and how it wasn't too fishy. I'd get it again, if I was going with three people and also split a steak for 2!

I think if you are going to diverge from the steak menu, do it during lunch time.

Brooklyn - need preserved lemons asap

I got some (dried Iranian lemons) at Oriental right before thanksgiving to take down to my mom. They had a bunch.

Just curious, what do you use them for? I only know how to make tea out of them.

Vegetarian near BAM

You could also try Stir It Up at 514 Atlantic. I only ate their once, but it was wonderful. It is a west indian place, but the veggie Jerk Chicken was great: a big portion of very flesh like mock chicken with great sauce. Really cute service from the lady that runs it as well. And have a Sorrel; that alone is worth the trip!
