Looking for Authentic Chinese on Westside

So... this dinner was really great!! Our Chinese guests loved it. They ordered about 10 different menu items - most were things I've never tried before. They even requested that we go back on their next trip into town. So - thanks to all who suggested this restaurant!! Regards, Misty

Pioneer Bakery on Rose

So I just came back from the Pioneer on Montana. Same block as Pavillions. They share a space with Panda Express. They have the same breads as the old Bakery that was on Rose and Main Street. From what I remember, one of the Pioneer x-employees opened this bakery. They sell a lot of the same bread - french rolls, shepherders, baguettes, etc. - GREAT cinammon rolls and large variety of loaves and rolls. After 7pm everything is 50% off. It's worth a visit.

Looking for Authentic Chinese on Westside

Believe it or not, this is their request. I also wondered why someone travelling here from China would want Chinese food. Guess they feel "safe" eating something that isn't foreign to them. Thanks for the tips.

Looking for Authentic Chinese on Westside

Entertaining Chinese business execs tomorrow and need to find extremely decent, authentic Chinese restaurant somewhere on Westside - preferably near Santa Monica or West LA. Any ideas?

Best Fish 'n Chips in LA?

JackonCrack.... The batter is heaps better at The Britannia just 2 blocks east from Ye Olde Kings Head. Their chips are great as well. Nice and thick. The chef knows what he's doing..... he's from Liverpool!!!

Best Fish 'n Chips in LA?

The Kings Head does not serve authentic fish n chips. Their stuff is crap! The batter tastes like it's made with corn flakes. The prices are also absolutely ridiculous. The best fish n chips are at The Britannia. They're between 3rd and 4th Streets on Santa Monica Blvd. in Santa Monica. Very friendly staff as well. You won't go back to the Kings Head after having their fish!

Taqueria Chihuahua reopened in SM!!!

As I drove down Lincoln Blvd. and came upon their recognizable logo, I felt elation when I discovered that Chihauhua had reopened. I had such fond memories of the dirty tile floor, busy menu, musty bathrooms and impeccibly delicious food at their Olympic location!!! I have to say I was utterly disappointed after eating a meal from the new restaurant. First of all, it has totally lost its charm and secondly, the food was barely edible. I had a carnitas plate. The meat was dry and stringy. The rice was dry. The beans were not tasty at all. My friends with me, each ordered something different... one had taquitos... dry dry dry. There was this very funky cheese on top that was difficult to swallow. The other friend ordered a burrito that so heavily beaned, there was probably only a tablespoon of meat in it. I will say that the chips and guac were pretty good. I would possibly give Chihuahua a second try, only because this particular visit was such a disappointment from the other restaurant that I can't imagine the food could be so bad again. On a positive note... I like the fact the kitchen help wear gloves. After my second visit, I will post here again.

Pioneer Bakery on Rose

They had great clam chowder soup and delicious green godess dressing!!! Believe it or not, their bread tastes the same as it did 25 years ago. I just came back from the bakery and bought some large french rolls and a sourdough loaf. yum!

Recommendations on classic, "old LA" restaurants

DELMONICO'S on Pico and Beverly Drive. Great place. Old style tables. Large restaurant. Beautiful wooden booths. Great for large parties. Everything I've had here has been very good. Tasty steaks. Great service.

Pioneer Bakery on Rose

Pioneer Bakery is indeed on Lincoln and Montana. They share a space with Panda Express. They still serve their great signature breads. Huge Shepherders loaf and sour dough baguettes. Huge variety of breads and pastries. They also make great cakes. I used to work at the Pioneer Boulangerie in the late 70's on Main Street in Santa Monica. What a great time that was. I can still smell hot rolls coming off the conveyor belt. As well as the restaurant, there was a cheese counter and great wine room. How I miss there. It was a sad day when they closed. The building is now torn down and becoming condos. So what else is new?!
