Boro Park, NY to Naperville, IL Chol Hamoed

DH is very concerned he will starve. He will be traveling for business from Brooklyn, NY to Naperville, IL on Chol Hamoed. He will remain in IL through the end of Pesach. Are there any options for delivered pesach meals or purchasing easily prepared meals in a hotel room? He will not have a car. Is he better off bringing food from NY? Any recommendations for Pesach travel meals? If it makes a difference, he eats kitniot. Eating striclty matzo and fresh fruit and vegetables for 4 days is not an acceptable diet to him. Thank you all for easing his fear of starvation!

Kosher French Macaroons

Bo & Bon Brooklyn sells them. I can't speak for their quality or if they ship though. You can give them a call & see what they have to say. (347) 270-9051

kosher certified murray's chickens at fairway-whole chicken $1.79/lb!

They are available in Redhook too. I bought some this past weekend.

Meat restaurant in Brooklyn

I am looking for a meat restaurant with good food & ambiance. I was recently at Bistro 1310, we thought the food was great and it had nice ambiance. How do T fusion or Pardes compare? Any other recommendations?

Kosher wedding

We chose Temple Torah in Little Neck. The catering is done by Colbeh. The food was very good according to the compliments received. (I don't remember eating much that day.) Looking back, I would have preferred a venue that had separate rooms for the cocktail hour and reception. The price was very competitive and had the option to include flowers and music.

Kosher wedding

The caterer at RPJC was very willing to work with us as far as price and menu. As far as the space, it hasn't been renovated/remodeled since the previous caterer left many, many moons ago (at least 15 years) and looked a bit dated.

Despite the deted decor, for the price, my husband and I were willing to give the place a chance and made an appointment to return for a tasting. We were supposed to see the hall set up for a wedding and taste the food before making a final decision. When we arrived for the tasting, we found the caterer munching on some veggies. He was not expecting us despite our appointment and told us he did not have enough food for the affair and there was nothing for us to taste except said veggies. He asked if we wanted to make another appointment, we politely refused.

Kosher wedding

I looked at RPJC for my wedding 2 years ago. The price is the lowest you'll find. Beyond that, we were not impressed.

Kolbeh Rice

The Colbeh sweet rice is called Shirin Polo.

Try this recipe:

They also serve 'green' rice which has dill & lima beans (Baghali Polo), and plain Basmati rice with saffron, which gives it a yellow/orange color.

Butter substitute for rice recipe

My MIL only uses corn oil, as this was the only pareve option in Iran.

Best Sufganiot (Jelly Doughnuts)

Anything decent in Boro Park?

Kosher Wedding NYC/Long Island/Westchester

I got married at Temple Torah in Little Neck (Colbeh Caterer). They were accomodating with their menu, adding some traditional Aschenazi and other ethnic foods they normally dont serve. The food was just as we expected from many dining experiences in the restaurant. We had about 375 people and the area for the coctail hour was very crowded and there was barely an empty seat in the sanctuary for the ceremony.

Shelter Rock Jewish Center (DeLuxe Caterers)

My husband and I did not use Shelter Rock for our wedding last year for that exact reason. I did not feel comfortable calling their 'references.' However, a number of people I already knew had been to affairs there shortly before our wedding and were not pleased with the food. You can also try Rockville caterers at Temple Bnai Sholom in Rockville Centre. Their ballroom and sanctuary are also very nice.

Borough Park

The blocks from 13 Ave to 8 Ave are long, but not unsafe. You can take a city bus down to 8th on 49 & back to 13 on 50 street. Most of the restaurants on 8th Ave discussed here are between 48 Street and 60 Street. Search sunset park and you'll find plenty to eat.

Piyaz on Union Turnpike

I was at Piyaz for the first time with a medium sized group. Service was the worst any of us have ever experienced. We waited 2 hours to get our food with no explanation. While waiting we received a bill with other customers credit cards included. We had food served to us and then taken away. We also witnessed food being served to other tables and then being taken directly to a different table. Our meals were served in three distinct shifts. When one group finished their entrees, the next group was served. After the horrid service, the food was not worth the wait. My beef kebab, which was highly recommended by the waiter, was nothing so exciting and the rice tasted like a box vermicelli mix. A few people ordered schwarma, some got it, but one got what looked and tasted like sliced chicken kebab. The steak looked like it was half fat and gristle, the people that ordered it were not happy with their meal. Half of the meals were missing side dishes. Some things that we ordered were never served, but they didn't forget to charge for them. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

Kosher food on a cruise

I cruised on Princess in Alaska last summer. We are not strictly kosher and will eat fish, pasta and veggies without any special wrapping. My hubby requested Kosher meals as he 'needs' his meat. He ate the kosher brisket on the second night, they needed 24 hours notice to defrost the kosher meal. Hubby ate the brisket but did not order another kosher meal the entire week. To me, the meal looked exteremely unappetizing, I would not dare taste it. Keep in mind that if you request the kosher meals while making your reservation, you are not obliged to eat them once on the ship.

Help! Where can I buy Kinder Bueno?

Ive seen them in Bklyn Fairway.

Best Brooklyn Flagel

I used to get my flagels from Best Bagels in Great Neck, now I live in Brooklyn. They have just the right amount of dough inside and were perfectly crisp on the outside. My favorite toppings are sesame and sunflower. I've tried the Fairway flagels but they are too crisp for my liking, with amost no dough inside and no sunflower. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go? Also, does anyone in Brooklyn make a sunflower bagel?

Best Boro Park Take-Out

I recently married and moved to Boro Park (Maimonides area). What is the best take home food store in the neighborhood?? My husband has eaten the food from both Meisners and Luzees on New Utrecht Ave and was not impressed with either. He is now very reluctant to try any of the others. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Nice kosher LI wedding venue with a minimum of 250 people or fewer?

I think that the Sephardic Temple was more than $100pp when I looked there less than a year ago. Shelter Rock doesnt do tastings but should be in your price range.--If you want to taste their food, get yourself invited to an affair there. Also, you may want to try Temple Bnai Sholom in Rockville Centre, I think they will fit into your budget.

Palace Diner, Flushing?

I would avoid the palace diner. Too many people have had negative experiences there. Including a relative in the emergency room.

Rockville Caterers

He is under cRc supervision

lederman caterers

How does Lederman compare to Rockville Caterers of Rockville Centre?

Temple Torah/Colbeh Caterer, NY

I am considering Temple Torah (Colbeh Catering) in Queens for my wedding. Does anyone have any experience with them? I have eaten at Colbeh many times and like their Persian food. My question/doubts arise with their 'American' food.--Has anyone ever had it? How is it? I know they can make kabobs and rices well, but what about prime rib and kasha?

Rockville Caterers

I am considering them for my upcoming wedding. I can't tell you who is certifying him, but he's glatt. He told us the main dining room would hold 350 ppl for our affair.--I dont think it would hold many more than that. IMO his food has always been very good.--He has been around Queens & LI for many years.

San Francisco Kosher

Thanks for all of your replies. We attempted to go to the NY style deli and Sabra in chinatown. Unfortunately both were closed during our visit to SF (Thanksgiving, followed by shabbos).

San Francisco Kosher

My SO and I are looking for some places to eat for our upcoming trip to SF. Meat, dairy, anything so long as its kosher and moderately priced. We will be staying near the Embarcadero Center without a car, so proximity to public transportation is a plus.

Non-Thanksgiving Dinner...

My SO & I will be visiting San Francisco from NYC this Thursday through Sunday. We are non meat/poultry eaters and are looking for a non-holiday menu on Thursday night. Any moderately priced place with a few fish or vegetarian options would be great. We are staying at the Hyatt Regency without a car, so public transport or walking distance is a must.

Kosher Caterers- who to use?

I too am planning a wedding and have found great variations in price from one caterer to another. Can anyone tell me anything about the following caterers
Rockville
Seaview
Grenadine
K & T @ Hewlett E Rockaway JC
Morrell & Morrell of Woodbury (are they one in the same?)
Austein
Crown Royale
Lederman
Crest Hollow CC

I would appreciate any and all feedback.

Kosher bakery Queens/Brooklyn

I need a reccomendation for a good parve layer/birthday cake. Queens is preferred, but Brooklyn is ok too. I am familiar with G&I & the other bakeries on Main Street in KGH, but never get more than a babka or mandel bread.

What do Chowhounds do for a living (besides eat of course)?

I'll 'bite', as it seems I will be a first...I am an audiologist and enjoy exploring not too noisy (we have to practice what we preach) chow around NYC with my audiologist pals
