ISO ethnic eats in Montebello/Pico Rivera There's a good Salvadorean restaraunt on Whittier Blvd and Paramount in the same shopping center as the Food 4 Less. Sorry but I don't remember the name. They serve many unique dishes and of course Pupusas!! Also, if you travel east on Whittier Blvd there is a decent Thai/Chinese restaraunt called Siam Buathong right across the street from The 99 Cent Store. I second the recommendation for Golden Skewer in Montebello. Very very good Armenian/Mediterranean food. |

Trader Joe's White Truffle Oil I just bought some tonight because I've never had Truffles before and I wanted to get a general idea of what they taste like and smell like. What do you guys think of Trader Joe's White Truffle Oil? |

How thick do you make your Tomato Soup? I just tried my hand at cooking Tomato Soup and was told by someone that it is too thick. I was wondering, when you make it do you usually make on the thick side or on the thin side? |

Favorite Panaderia (Mexican Bakery) in LA? If you've never been to a Mexican bakery then you really need to go because they offer some wonderful treats. I especially like thier Postres de Tres Leches. There is a really good Panaderia in Pico Rivera called Duran's on the corner of Rosemead and Beverly Blvd that makes wonderful Bolillos and homeade Mexican Chorizo without all the fat. Are there any good bakeries you know of? |

Here's my personal favorite and loved by all my friends and family Derek’s Kicked Up Chicken Tortilla Soup Ingredients 1 Large Onion For Garnish 8-10 Corn Tortillas thinly sliced (about 1/4 inch wide) To Cook Start by sauteeing all of the Onion in Olive Oil on medium heat until Onion turns translucent (about 5 minutes) To Serve Ladel soup into medium bowls and add fried Corn Tortilla Strips, chopped Cilantro, Roasted Corn, Avocado cubes, Cotija Cheese and enjoy!! Chicken Stock Alternative Instead of using canned Chicken Stock add 8 cups of water and 1 Chicken Carcass for a rich fresh broth “For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.” 1 Timothy 4:4-5 |

King Taco: what's in that sauce?!!?! [moved from Los Angeles board] King Taco Red Sauce is wonderful. You are right, the flavors are very complex and layered. The only thing though is if you have a low tolerance for hot chile then be careful because IT IS VERY HOT!! |

The one restaurant you resolve to try in 2007? Definately Providence |
|
|
Is there any dish you would recommend? I've never been there but needed some advice. I'm not sure if there's more than one but I think this one is in Glendale. |

Aah Ambrose. Who can forget their HUGE slices, crushed Tomatoes and chewy crust. I also remember their sausage being very thinly sliced like pepperoni. I miss that. |

Zumaya's in Uptown Whittier (across the stret from The Radison) has two dishes that you have to try. Their Enchiladas Del Mar which are Shrimp stuffed Enchiladas that are covered with a Chipotle sauce are delicious. Also their Tortilla Soup is very very tasty. You won't be disappointed. I agree that Golden Triangle is a place that you should check out. They make the best Tom Kha Khai that I know of. |

Favorite Italian Risotto Question I got this killer recipe from Sunset Magazine for herb and wild mushroom Risotto that's to die for. As a matter of fact, I think I'll make it this week. |

Obsolete Childhood Food Memories? When I was about 8 years old my Dad used to buy a Cow's head (Cabeza as they call it) in East LA, bring it home and cook it in the oven. It used to gross the heck out of my older brothers but for some reason nothing was better than sitting down at the kitchen table with 'ma pops' and having a go at the Cabeza. It was my first real male bonding experience. The cheek meat was especially tender and succulent. My Dad used to like to eat the eyeballs but I never mustered the courage to do that. Even though Cabeza isn't anything special I think the experience and the memory of eating with my Dad is what makes it so special. |

I just bought a set of Wusthof knives from Crate and Barrel. Fortunately my friend is a manager there and got me an obscene deal. I've been very happy with my purchase. |

I want to try Truffles but I don't know where What do they taste like? Are they worth all the hype and the price? |
|
|
Are any of you familiar with this tasty Mexican hot sauce? Out of all the hot sauces I find myself always buying this one and I really enjoy it. It is really flavorful and has plenty of heat. I use it on everything from Pizza, Eggs, soup, and seafood. |

What are your favorite SPICY foods? My favorite is The Chipotle Chile. They are Smoked Jalapenos that are very hot yet have a deep, rich smokey flavor that is absolutely delicious. They are sold in cans packed in Adobo sauce and can be found in the hispanic/ethnic section of most supermarkets. I usually puree them with some garlic and add them to my Chicken Tortilla Soup. I've also used them in a marinade for chicken or shrimp. Be careful though, these are very hot and a little goes a long way!! |

I want to try Truffles but I don't know where I want to try this extremely expensive and sought after Fungi but I don't know where. I am a foodie like most of you and I want to at least try it once in my life. |

Is The Water Grill as good as it was back in the glory days? I just found Providence. Have you gone and is it as good as Watergrill? |
|

Is The Water Grill as good as it was back in the glory days? I remember reading some time ago that their Executive Chef left and that it isn't as good as it used to be. I have never been there and have always wanted to go but I am having mixed feelings about it. What have been your experiences lately? |

Ok guys it's that time of the year when the weather is cold and perfect for a nice hot fresh bowl of homeade soup. What are some your favorite soups to make and eat during the winter? Mine are: Potato, Green Chile and Cheese Soup: In a large soup pot saute one onion and about 4 Garlic Cloves in about 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil Chicken Tortilla Soup |

Just had my first Lou Malnati's Pizza I just had my very first Lou Malnati's and it was absolutely delicious. Being from LA we have nothing like this over here and I must say that it was a unique experience. For example, when they make them they layer them with a lot of cheese first and then cover it with a layer of crushed Tomatoes and Pepperoni which is the opposite to the way I'm used to seeing Pizzas made but has no affect on the taste. Also, they don't have a lot of crust which is something that I love about Pizza but that is just a personal preference. If you could believe it when it arrived I waited overnight to defrost it as they say that Lou's Pizza's taste best when completely defrosted. Definately worth the wait. The only drawback is they are rediculously expensive mainly because of the overnight shipping but they are worth it once in a while. |
