Chairman Mao's Profile

Innovative restaurant in NY/NJ Area

I'll throw one more somewhat obscure one out there: the tasting menu at Tel Aviv in Great Neck. Well worth $45.

NYC Tasting Menus?

There's a small place in Great Neck called Tel Aviv that has a great $40 tasting menu. I thought it was superior to Mike's tasting menu.

Assuming you're not talking about shabbos, I would also consider one of the upscale beach towns near Deal such as Spring Lake. You can daven and eat out in Deal, which is a short drive away.

Apropo of this, what are the odds this will be kosher: http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull&cid=1207649998826

I say slim, but just the possibility is enough to warm this cruel dictator's heart.

I second that opinion. Her weddings at Temple Israel are among the best to which I have been.

Kosher in Martha's Vineyard?

I am most likely going to be in Martha's Vineyard for about a week in August. Does anyone know of any kosher options? I recognize there are no kosher restaurants but am wondering about grocery stores that may carry kosher items (especially meat) or any other meal options. Thanks in advance.

Prime Grill Tonight-First Time

Based on your criteria, I would second the filet.

Kosher Restaurants in NYC

No disrespect intended, but I lived in London for two years and although I'm not a fan of all the restaurants you listed, if you think that Kaifeng compares favorably to any of them I question your tastes. If you're looking for a substitute for Kaifeng just go to your local kosher Chinese dive, dump additional MSG on it and triple the price. Solly's, on the other hand, I can understand. I would give Olympic Pita in Manhattan or Brooklyn a try. Also, although the ambiance is lacking, Kasbah has gotten pretty good over the last couple of years and might also appeal to you.

Olympic Pita - opening in Manhattan

I recently took out from Olympic Pita after having also eaten dinner there recently and although I am not big on writing reviews, I think this place merits it.

First, I had the baby chicken with hummus on laffa. It was truly excellent, very large, and came with complementary side salads. The laffa was particularly noteworthy and among the best I have had. The chicken was grilled fresh upon ordering. If I have any gripe it would be that the hummus could use a little more mmmff. The decor is very nice for such an inexpensive -- and really any -- restaurant. I was particularly impressed with the bar. I see an opening here for them to be one of the first Kosher restaurants to have an extensive beer selection but right now their selection is rather meager. Nonetheless, they should be commended for including this at all and it makes the place a viable inexpensive date option. I have long been a fan of Nargila East but Olympic Pita manages to be better than them for considerably less money.

Olympic Pita fills a void in midtown eating: quality, inexpensive food with full, sit-down service and takeout. I recognize that options like Cafe K attempt to fill this but I have found Cafe K and others to be lacking in both quality and decor. In fact, I would argue that Olympic Pita is the most important new Kosher restaurant in Manhattan since Circa opened (although Circa's recent temporary closing for rumored health violations does make me think twice about going there). They should be the model for Kosher restaurants in Brooklyn who seek to open in Manhattan, not other less successful attempts like the Essex down by Wall Street. Let's hope this is the start of something and that people support this excellent new entry into the market.

Kosher option near Herndon VA

As I recall, the Hyatt Dulles will provide Kosher airline style meals if you give them advanced warning. The food was pretty lousy though.

Good/Bad Kosher SeamlessWeb Meals

For those of us who rely on SeamlessWeb for our dinners more often than not, what Kosher SeamlessWeb meals do you recommend? I'm looking for some new dinner ideas. Finally, what Kosher restaurants would you like to see added to SeamlessWeb? Personally, I give high marks to the salmon in a tortilla bowl with wasabi dressing from Cafe K and the sushi from Mr. Broadway is surprisingly decent. On the flip side, Kasbah takes forever to deliver and the food is often cold when it arrives.
