Downtown Lunch

Sadly Stix is history. A month or two ago they lost their lease when other occupants in the building complained to the management company about the odor of the food being wafted into the buildings air vents.

The Melting Pot: bad expensive food

Hi Blumie,

If you'd like to give the HotPot or Fondue style of reataurant another shot I would. If it's the whole concept of cooking the food yourself you dislike you probably won't like these either. I'm pasting int the links for both below. Kaze is my favorite of the two.

The Melting Pot: bad expensive food

Hi Blumie,

Have you ever been to Shabu Zen or Kaze in Boston's Chinatown? They're both Japanese Hotpot Style Restaurants?

The Melting Pot: bad expensive food

Wow, I wouldn't say this is one of my favorite restaurants; however, I’m surprised by what some of you are saying. When I have eaten there the veggies have always been fresh and the presentation has always been attractive. We’ve tried four of the dessert fondues and have always seen the chocolate chunks melted as the other ingredients melted and the liquor was added. I agree the prices put the chain into the “Special Occasion” category for a lot of people, but you have to admit... you do get a lot of food for your money, especially if you get “The Big Night Out.”

Messed up vinegarette...need help quick please

I agree. If you want to thin it a bit you can always whisk in a little water... I'd go a half teaspoon at a time not knowing how much dressing you made.

The Melting Pot: bad expensive food

Hi Blumie,

Did you go to the Melting Pot in Framingham? I agree the prices are a bit up there. However, it can be a fun evening with friends talking as you cook and enjoying your meal. What did you have? What exactly didn't you enjoy besides having to cook it yourself? I know it can seem a bit overwhelming with all of the sauces and if you chose oil the batters.

Mexican Food Hell.

If you find yourself on the Cape visit Ay1 Caramba Cafe in Falmouth or Harwich http://www.aycarambacafe.com/ It's the kind of food I used to enjoy when I went home to California.

Ay Caramba Cafe Falmouth & Harwich

I love this place! They have tamales and chili rellenos which I have had cravings for since I left California. In addition to authentic food the staff and owners are friendly and welcoming.

Hi Hounds,

I'm returning to the Sacramento area after a ten years. Is Bibs'a still the best place to go, or has someone new came to town?

Thank you.

Pink and White Mexican Candy need name please!!!

Thank you toodie jane,

Yes, they are sweet tamales for Christmas. I appreaciate you doing this. My friend is from Los Angeles so this is a candy that would have been in the Mexican Markets in the 50's and sixties. Does this sound familiar to any of the other Southern California Hounds?

Pink and White Mexican Candy need name please!!!

Thank you, It's a traditional candy sold in a bag. I'll have to check with my friend to confirm the shape. She said her parents loved them, but it was always too sweet for her. But, her mother used them in the filling of her Christmas tamales and we are trying to recreate the tamales for Christmas this year.

Pink and White Mexican Candy need name please!!!

Hi Hounds,

I need the name of a very sweet Mexican candy that is white and pink. I'm working with a friend to recreate her mom's Christmas Tamale recipie and these candies are used as an ingreadient. I'm sure if we can find the name we cand find the candy for sale on the internet.

Thank you!
