Would like recent feedback on Beach Bistro (Holmes Beach)

We arrived at the restaurant a little early for our reservation and were seated right away at a great table overlooking the water. Restaurant atmosphere and decor has a warm, comfortable feeling.
Drinks were excellently prepared. We went for the Tasting Menu - 5 courses for $100- per person. First course we decided on was the Bistro Blue Tomato Soup which we both enjoyed. The second course we selected the Caesar Salad which I don't like that dry, I prefer a lot more dressing mixed in. My wife likes it the style that they served but thought it was unremarkable. For the third course we picked the Floribbean Grouper. nice size portion and it was super. Coconut cashew crust and a red pepper papaya jam. The fourth course we selected the USA PRime Beef Tenderloin.
My wife's had to be sent back because it was not cooked as she requested it. It was immediately rectified - no questions asked. It was very good but we both actually felt that the Tenderloin that we've had at their companion restaurant, EAT HERE in Siesta Key, is actually better. Our final decision was Chocolate Truffe Terrine and Florida Key Lime Pie for dessert. Both we're excellent.
I felt the first few courses were served very fast and asked the waiter to give us some time in between courses. A few questions we asked I felt could have had a more knowledgable answer. Overall, the service was well intentioned and good.
We went to the Beach Bistro for a special occasion and definitely enjoyed it. With three individual drinks total, tasting menu and tax the bill was $241- plus tip. Our overall impression was that we don't see what seperates this restaurant from other very, very good ones to justify the expense.

Looking for Italian for Sat Night and Sunday Brunch near Alexander Inn

Reporting back on our visit to Hostaria da Elio - group of nine - our table was waiting and we were seated promptly. BYOB.
Eggplant appetizer, chicken with goat cheese and Carmelized onions entree and the spumoni Tartuffe dessert were the favorites. Very good food and service and fair prices. Bill was $230- plus tip.
Ended up at Serafina's on Sunday for AL Cabrino pizza and drinks. Enjoyed it and the waiter was excellent.

How about Eckarts Luncheonette right in Westhampton Beach - good food, interesting shop with a display of old newspapers, magazines, etc

Ice cream - Rehoboth/Lewes Delaware

The Ice Cream Store in Rehoboth Beach - excellent ice cream, a lot of fun flavors to choose from, fun staff. Far and away the best. Hopkins Dairy Farm is very good and the kids can also see and smell the cows. Kings in Lewes is good. Hope this helps!

Ristorante Zebra, Rehoboth Beach, DE

We went with a group to Ristorante Zebra in Rehoboth Beach as part of Restaurant Week promotion of 3 courses for $35.00. Very friendly greeting by the hostess and pleasant, professional service throughout the night. Hot rolls were offered and raved about. Three different salads were enjoyed, with the Mediterranean Style getting the prize as the best.Nice selection of entrees to choose from. Entrees around the table were Pork Cops, Steak, Veal, Clams, Snapper and Salmon. Meat dishes shined. Salmon not cooked all the way thru as requested. Dessert was rum cake with vanilla ice cream - very good but would have enjoyed a choice of at least two different desserts. Overall, an impressive job by this restaurant that encourages us to return!

Capriotti's Sub Shop

Yes, they do sell bottled water, etc.
I realize their in business to sell their products and make a profit - it just doesn't seem to be a reasonable, customer friendly policy to refuse someone a glass of water to take medicine. What would it have.cost them to,do,this? 3 cents for a cup? So for 3 cents, they lost a customer!

Capriotti's Sub Shop

I've been to the Lewes, DE location a few times previously and thought the subs were very good. Recently went and after purchasing food, asked for a small courtesy tap water to take some medicine. Was refused by the counterman - he explained their policy is not to give out cups of water. Obviously disappointed in this and won't be returning.

Italian restaurant in the theater district

had a reservation for five saturday night and was promptly seated. very nice that they have an elavator to the second floor - helped us get 2 elderly people with walking problems up there very easily. service was very friendly and professional. our group had 1 tomato soup with shrimp, entrees were 1 ravioli special, 3 sea bass specials (fantastic) and a veal soorentino. desserts were cheesecake, pears and vanilla gelato and tiramusu. 2 glasses of wine. very good food at a fair price in the theater district. bill was about $185- incl tax; tip on top of that. definitely a winner and would happily go back!

rehoboth in mid-november

Sensous - thanks for your reply to my original post - it was very helpful!

here's my feedback from a visit to rehoboth beach over Veteran's Day weekend, 2011.
our group of five adults had three dinners over the weekend -

Oyster House- 50 wilmington ave 260-9193
definitely very busy the friday nite we went. clam chowder and oyster stew excellent. main couses were fried oysters, oyster po-boy and a crabcake sandwich. did not order desserts. $26- per person including tip and 2 drinks total for the table. restaurant can get noisy. staff definitely impressed with their positive attitude - glad to see you, thanks for coming in, etc. would rate this restaurant excellent.

Lupo Di Mare - located in hotel rehoboth on rehoboth ave 226-2240
went saturday nite and just got in before waiting times prevailed. 3 course special for $19- if you're seated before 6 but we ate later at regular prices. had to ask for bread even after we had been seated for about half-hour- restaurant policy? (didn't see bread on other tables). didn't take as many notes as i should have - but i know my veal meatball starter was great.as was the eggplant parm entree i had that was a special. other main's were sea bass that the three ladies raved about and a fish medley that was also rated highly. no desserts were ordered. $37- per person including tip and 2 drinks total for the table. restaurant can get noisy. would rate this restaurant very, very good to excellent

Summer House- 228 rehoboth ave 227-3895
went on thursday night and the bar area was busy and the pub area moderately busy. we knew about the 2 course for $19- special in advance but were not given the menu when seated by the host. the waitress then saw one of the menus was the wrong one and corrected it but we still did not have the 2 course for $19- menu and had to ask for it. i thought this was pretty unprofessional. we ordered off of that menu and had ceaser salads (excellent), pumpkin crab bisque and white chicken chili as starters. mains we each had the seafood combo (pick 2 out of crab cake, scallops and shrimp). sides included neva's potatoes (super scalloped potatoes), mushrooms (great big portion) and sweet potato fries. same scenario - no dessert, 2 drinks total for the table. $25- per person with tip. waitress very helpfull with a food allergy question before ordering. would rate Summer House as good to very good. not in the same league as the first two restaurants but probably not expected to being a pub/bistro.

notes from ft myers, sanibel/captiva trip

stayed at the sanibel harbour resort and spa for a 3 day business conference. had dinner at the tarpon house on the premises one night. dishes were a pan seared grouper and a chicken dish. both very good. $71- total bill including tax but not tip for 2 people.. food provided at the business meetings throughout the 3 days i'd rate good to very good.

added 2 vacation days onto the trip. first day went to gramma dots, 634 n yachtsman dr, sanibel for lunch. got there at 11:25 and people were already lined up for the 11:30 opening. every table was filled about 10 minites after openiing. dishes we had were a fried oyster sandwich and a grouper sandwich. comes with homemade potato chIps and some fruit slices. $27.45 total bill for 2 people with tax but not tip.

gramma dots was so OUTSTANDING that after the mucky duck in captiva to watch the sunset and have a drink ($10.00 total for 1 wine and 1 beer), that we went back there for dinner! dishes were the fried oyster dinner, new england clam chowder and fried calamari. total bill $42.51 for 2 people including tax but not tip. our second excellent meal there in the same day.

second day, we went to the blue giraffe on periwinkle dr in sanibel and we both had the chicken panini sandwiches. food was good and the price was reasonable. fun atmosphere with staff and patrons watching the inaugeration.

we had dinner at timbers restaurant 703 tarpon bay rd, sanibel. dishes were manhattan clam chowder - chock full of delicious ingredients! - crunchy shrimp, scallops and grouper and a red snapper dish. one key lime pie and 2 beers brought the total to $65.72 for 2 people with tax but without the tip. timbers was crowded (bus in the parking lot) and deserved to be! noticed the wait staff was all adult and did an excellent job.

hope this post helps the next chowhound going thru the area!
