brown sugar bacon waffles! ..... or your creations?

Mine aren't too terribily creative but I browned breakfast sausage and added it to my waffle batter along with some grated cheddar. They were amazing! Thought my husband was going to fall over...

I made them another night but it was a trio of breakfast meats - bacon, ham, and sausage, separately but all with cheese. The sausage was the winner again - it was the only one that packed the flavor. And who doesn't mix their sausage with the syrup and waffle anyway?

What is the best cheese for Roast Beef?

Baby swiss popped into my mind first, with some carmelized onions and spicy mustard.

I can go without cheese sometimes if I have horseradish on hand.

bottled bbq sauce

I love the Budweiser sauce, just used the last of my bottle up last night on some pork sirloins. It's one of the best I've tried in a really long time!

Normally in our house it's Sweet Baby Rays Original or Head Country. Head Country is probably the favorite of all my friends and family.

Tulsa: D'Novo or LXI? other recs?

I've had takeout from D'Novo. The portions are small because it is a calorie-controlled dining atmosphere. I had the buffalo burger and it was tasty. It hasn't had the best or worst reviews, just mediocre. I'd try LXI over D'Novo.

In the same shopping center as D'Novo and LXI is McGill's, you cannot go wrong there - it's a wonderful place for steak dinner or a really nice lunch. For decent sushi and nice ambiance, In The Raw is a little over a mile away on the hill at 61st and Sheridan. For a nice deli lunch, try Boston Deli at 61st/Sheridan as well. Camille's is good for coffee, wraps, sandwiches, and pastries. There is a Starbucks in the hotel. Maggi Moo's is a good for ice cream, it's in Kingspoint (D'Novo/LXI) as well.

As for brunch, I'd definitely stick to the DoubleTree. It's really good and we normally go there for Mother's Day, etc.

Oh! I just thought of Savoy for breakfast or lunch and La Roma for Lebanese or pizza. Savoy is a local place if you want to get away from the hotel, they have killer cinnamon rolls.

Veg-friendly KC, Tulsa, NW Ark?

Be Le is a vegetarian restaurant at 66th & Lewis in Tulsa. It is the owner of Ri-Le's son's place and I've heard good things about it.

Waffle House! Are they any good?

IMHO, they're only great when you've been drinking. And they are a fast fix for a hangover.

I love their coffee, the Toddle House (ham & cheese omelet) and hash browns - scattered, smothered, and covered (onions & cheese).

Their pecan waffles are pretty yummy too.

Best pizza in the Tulsa area?

I haven't had Pie Hole yet but everyone raves about it. I like Joe Momma's at 61st and Garnett. Hideaway is always a great choice. I've yet to try Savastano's and Mario's but plan on trying Mario's since they opened one closer to me.

New restaurants opening in Tulsa

I've had El Guapo - it's pretty tasty! We sat upstairs one night and it was chilly but I had some awesome tuna tartare tacos and a mango margarita. Another night a couple of friends and I enjoyed the $40 margarita and some enchiladas. Thank goodness for Elliot Nelson bringing life to downtown.

how to doctor up brownies from a box??

My quick fix for boxed brownies is to make them in a muffin pan and add a miniature candy bar (Snickers, Andes, etc) to the middle. Put about tbsp of the batter into the baking cup, add your favorite kind of candy bar, and add another tbsp of batter. Should make 12 large muffins that have a little surprise in the middle!

I also agree that Keo is delish. I had a drink there that was outstanding - I can't remember what it was now. Love that all of the dishes are family recipes!

I had the chance to eat at Sonoma (in the Bistro's old spot on Peoria) yesterday and was impressed by my lunch, as well as my co-workers. The only think I didn't like was the crab cake appetizer, which was way too salty.

I've only had appetizers from Lava and they are always good. I'm glad to see that Table 10 is gone, that was one of my worst dining experiences. Awful service and ridiculous prices for the amount of food you got. A co-worker says that Lava's spicy chicken pasta is one of the best pasta dishes she's ever eaten.

Most palatable diet sodas?

Amen to A&W... I can hardly find it though.

I will drink a Diet DP if I have to have a pop, or a Sierra Mist free, it's not bad.

McDonald's Confession

I'm glad to see that others crave the FOF like I do. My fiancee cringes when I order it and a small FF. There is seriously nothing like. I have actually been wanting one all week but will save it for my road trip this weekend.

Has anyone seen that Wendy's now has a fish sandwich? I'll have to give it a shot because I love my Wendy's so much!

Burnt Again! - what am i doing wrong??

I was going to suggest moving your baking rack up too or adjusting your temperature to allow you to cook things longer so the bottom doesn't cook so quickly.

Triscuits flavors...any good?

I like all of them except for the cheddar, they taste stale everytime.

There is a new fire roasted zesty tomato something that is awesome. Then I'd rank them: rosemary, black pepper, garlic, garden herb, and cheddar last. Haven't tried the rye.

Taco Bell Chili Cheese Burrito-Gone Forever?

We still have them in Oklahoma too. I was really excited to find the encherito back on the menu recently, except the omitted the three black olives on the top and it does not taste the same.

My FI loved the Frito burrito - not sure if he's tried the one at Sonic.

I hate whole wheat bread.

Have you been able to find any of the new whole grain white breads? They are supposed to be better than plain white bread...

Brownies in Muffin Tins- The Ultimate Corner Brownies?

I make my brownies in regular sized muffin tins for parties and such. I line them with a baking cup so they come right out, and take them out when they feel done by touching the center.

Sometimes I put miniature candy bars in the middle - Snickers, Andes mints, etc - it's a nice little surprise!

What to order at Popeye's? [split from a discussion on the Boston board]

Amen to the crawfish bites! That buttery sauce that comes with them is delish!

The only other thing I really like is the dirty rice and the heavenly biscuits.

Chipotle

I know this is an old post but I have to add my two cents.

I tried our new Chipotle shortly after it opened, say two months or so. Enough time to fix any kinks or people problems, right?

Wrong. It was crap.

The service was horrible, the food was blah (hardly any meat in a $7 burrito), and the place was dirty. So, being the foodie that I am, I thought they might want to know, plus several of my friends had said their experience sucked too. I got on the corporate website and wrote them a letter, telling them about my experience. Bad idea to include my real phone number. They started calling me every day, to the point it was annoying. I certainly did not want to talk to the manager that was rude to me in the first place so I ignored them. The regional manager called after the local manager had several times. He left a message and I finally decided to call him back. I told him that I had said everything I wanted to say in my email and asked them to stop calling. They finally did, thank goodness. I'm sure they would've given me some comps but I do not want to step foot back in there.

Needless to say, I'll stick with my Qdoba. They're nice and the food is always excellent.

What to do with all these Omaha weiners?

Can you griddle them and serve with chili, cheese, and onions? All things taste better on the griddle or in a cast iron pan.

You could make pigs in a blanket.

I'd have to fry them up and serve them with mac & cheese for nostalgic reasons.

The kraftfoods.com website has a lot of hot dog recipes.

How safe is sushi from a decent sushi restaurant?

I've read a few articles that mention that wasabi is an antibacterial that helps with the digestion of any critters that might be in the fish. Any truth to that?

I'm on the same boat as everyone else - if it looks clean, it probably is safe. Sit at the sushi bar, you'll get to see exactly what's going on with your food.
