Sonora Grill

This place is great. Everything is made from scratch. The flavors are bold and tasty. I had Beef Chimichurri Pincho. Skewer of beef with chimichurri, coconut rice and smoky beans. And a tortilla. Perfect lunch size portion. The bean and rice are amazing. The beef was tender and flavorful. Really great.

Where to get Corned Beef?

I really like the Lunds Corned Beef. Bought one today.

Better or OK Chinese Lunch in Bloomington/Richfield

98 Pound Buffet is really great. Some American type stuff and some very Chinese stuff. Lots of choices.

Beef bones from grass-fed cows?

They are grass fed. And I'm sure they could be used for eating. I doubt the co-op would sell something to my dog. But the butcher would know.

Lucy's Ethiopian Restaurant

Picked up takeout tonight. Food was great. I got Yebeg Wot, which is a lamb stew in a berbere sauce. It was not as spicy as I would like, even though I asked for it spicy, but it had a kick and was very flavorful. It comes with a side of dry, crumbly cheese that I have never had before

But it was dead. One couple was eating and I got takeout and that's their only business when I was there, about 6:30. I'm hoping it picks up for them.

Gourmet Grocery

I've gotten caviar at Ikea. Very reasonably priced. Also, fish roe can be found very cheaply at United Noodle. Perfect for sushi.

Beef bones from grass-fed cows?

Seward Co-Op has them labeled as dog bones. I think they are like $3.50 a pound, or something. My dog loves them.

Babani's & Sawatdee, Downtown St Paul

Love Babani's. I go for the soup/salad combo for lunch often. The lemon chicken soup is really the best soup in MSP. And it comes with the most amazing bread. It is crispy and has a weird consistency, but in a good way.

Blackbird is Open.

Bad Waitress uses 1000 Hills Cattle beef and other locally sourced meats. Too bad their food is so terrible.

Minneapolis/St. Paul's Signature Food - It's Official

I'll second Surly!

I think I've found the best sandwich in MSP

I love the torta's at Pineda Tacos (the one at 4th and Lake). I love getting one with their green chicken with potatoes. Spicy, big and tasty.

need a GREAT cake for wife's 60th bday

Baker's Wife is fantastic. The cakes are nice and big. And they are the best tasting in all of the Twin Cities in my opinion.

Midtown Global Market - Must Try Items

Octopus tacos are FANTASTIC. They ran out of them today, I was so sad. I had the shrimp ones instead. Good, but not the same. The clam chowder is super good at Sirena Gorda too.

MSP: Poutine

Not actually poutine, but if you are at Ikea for food you can get the gravy (which is vegetarian) on the fries and it is very good. A pleasant surprise.

Round table?

Pagoda in Dinkytown also has large round tables with Lazy Susans.

Quality Minneapolis Chinese Lunch Buffet

Sorry to not get back to you sooner. Yes, as Lincster says, right on 1st and Lake, so the address is probably 100 E Lake Street, but I'm guessing. Could be 101 E Lake Street. It used to be a Blockbuster Video store.

Purple Sandpiper in Bloomington

Green Tea is brewed at a much lower temp than black tea, around 150 degrees. So if you ordered green tea and it wasn't blazing hot, that means they are doing it right. Hooray for doing it right!

Quality Minneapolis Chinese Lunch Buffet

I tried the new Hibachi Buffet at Lake and 1st on Friday.

It is a big buffet. Really big. And $9 including tax for AYCE and a drink.

It has a sushi bar area and a Mongolian BBQ build your own stirfry area. It had a huge salad bar that includes things like kimchee as well as normal American salad bar stuff and desserts. There were a lot of the normal American Chinese dishes like General Tso Chicken. It also had some really good stuff like mussels in black bean sauce and clams and fish. They had a whole area of fried stuff, which I thought was funny to group it all together. There were are least three kinds of soup. Then some bizarre stuff like pizza.

It was pretty good. Not as good as my favorite, which is 98 pounds buffet, but probably the 2nd best that I've had. Would recommend if you are into Chinese buffets.

Bad service in the Twin Cities [Moved from MSP board]

Then you have never been to Bryant Lake Bowl.

[MSP] Bangkok Thai Deli, University Ave St. Paul?

Many immigrants are illiterate or functionally illiterate in their native languages. Especially true with people from Africa and Asia. It is very likely he couldn't read the majority of the card. You may have done better with a card in English. Even people who don't seem to speak English very well often can read it, just like I read Spanish much better than I can speak it.

Twin Cities street food

There is still a lot of unauthorized street food in Minneapolis, just like there always has. I saw a big grill on a trailer set up at 32nd and Nicollet yesterday. It looked like they were doing grilled chicken. 38th and Nicollet has the woman who sells a couple different Mexican treats including those tasty fried things (chips made from flour?) with chili and lime and fruit cups with chili an lime. Soon there will be elote and other tasty treats to be found throughout the city. All without a food truck or license.

Looking for good Japanese restaurant

Second Obento-Ya. I love the Black Cod Bento Box so much. But the sushi is also good. I've only been for lunch, but here dinner is just as good.

And I can't think of a single Japanese restaurant that jeans wouldn't be okay in.

Azia and A25 closing

From what I've heard, the building at 25th and Nicollet is not in good shape, so that is part of the reason they are "moving." The old Morales space has been vacant for well over a year, and if the building is bad, this space will stay vacant too. I didn't like Azia and thought it was over priced, but I really don't want to see another vacant storefront on Nicollet.

Minneapolis - Quang - couple of questions

Beef curry +1. Very good.

Also, bun with half beef half egg roll is very tasty.

Chow Pup heading for University of Minnesota

If he isn't going to carry a jacket, he will only be getting food delivered. I wear a jacket of some type from October to April nearly every day.

Since he will need to be warmed up often, I suggest Quang for Pho. It is hot, hearty and delicious. My favorite cheap Vietnamese in town. Or, if he goes on the weekend, the Sea Bass soup is also very good.

Bun at Ngon Bistro. Fantastic.

Their bun is my favorite anywhere. It is more salad like with all the fresh herbs and greens. So good.

E. African restaurant in MSP?

Safari serves authentic Somali food, which is East African. Just not the countries you are interested in. Just want to put that out there if someone else sees this looking for Somali.

I don't think we have many immigrants here from those countries. I knew a couple Kenyans, and they lived in Brooklyn Park. I don't know if there is a large enough concentration for restaurants though, but BP may be the area you need to look.

city? number of people? type of food? price range?

Ngon--specificity?

The Bun is awesome. It is the best Bun in town. It is fresher and with a lot more green than the traditional Bun around town. The meat is of much higher quality, but all the beautiful tastes of Bun are still there. Highly recommended.
