Bachelorette party in Newport, RI

Definately check out H20 they advertise for specifically for bacherlorette parties and the food is really good. Just expect some other bacherlorette parties there also. They also have live bands on the weekends which is really good and they don't charge a cover if you eat there. Good luck and have fun!!!

Mohegan Restaurant

I personally like MJ sports cafe. It has similar menu items as MJ steakhouse but is less expensive and more casual. The garlic bread and lobster mashed potatoes are good hits! It is obviously a very sports oriented enviornment.

Foxwoods Food and Wine or Newport Mansions Food and Wine this weekend

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of the these two festivals. We are planning to attend one of them on Sunday and are torn as to which one. We have never been to either. We live alot closer to Newport but heard the Foxwoods Festival is amazing. Does anyone have any input? We would probably just be doing the Grand Tastings. Foxwoods is $125 1-5 and Newport is $85 1-4 I believe. Thanks in advance!

horrible eperience Wharf Tavern, Bristol, RI

Let's not take one bad experience and base it on the whole town. Warren is also a wonderful place with a lot of other great eating establishments.

Food Market at MGM Grand at Foxwoods

Everything is pretty average there is nothing exceptional. I don't even remember the other establishments names, but there is a bakery, italian place (pizza doesn't look like anything exciting) sicilian and hand tossed styles with some other choices like meatballs, garlic bread. Asian restaurant has beef and vegatables, general tsao chicken, orange chicken. A deli, a grill place and the chowder and raw bar. Kind of reminded me of a mall food court. The seating area is not the greatest either. I guess this place is great for a quick lunch if you don't want to head over to foxwoods or Junior's. All of the other restuarants in MGM do not open until 3 or later I believe.

Best Portuguese restaurants in RI?

I am not sure how long your visitors are staying but if they are here next weekend, I would definately make the drive to New Bedford and enjoy the Madeira Feast. Large amounts of food and drink! It is one of the largest portuguese feasts in the country.

Otherwise, there are a few restaurants in East Providence. I have eaten at Madeira and it usually hits the spot. Their specialty is usually carne diespeto(?) Beef that is grilled on a long skewer and brought to the table. It is a fiarly large building.

Or I would drive over to Fall River, MA and have a meal at Sagres on Columbia Street, great food overall!!! Fall River also has many Azorean markets and restaurants to check out! Enjoy!

Cafe Funchal in New Bedford,MA

Cafe Funchal just moved to their new location on Church Street. It was located on Acushnet Avenue in a much more ethnic part of town and it was also a lot smaller. I also think the quality of food was much better. Since they have moved to their enormous new location, things have slid a little.

New England Food Festivals

Warren, RI Quahog Festival in July. Great Seafood! Smaller Festival but still draws a crowd, also arts and crafts displayed. Lobster Clam Boil for $30.00 enough to feed 2! Of course you can not forget the stuffies!

Providence Dining for Waterfire

I know Citron has had some bad reviews on this board in the past but has anyone been recently. I know the Providence Journal just did a review on it, but I can give or take those reviews. They also reccomend it as a waterfire restaurant. Any new opinions?

Good Sunday eats? (PVD)

I think Aidan's might still be closed for renovations, they are using Judge Roy Bean's downstairs as a temporary spot. I do agree with the suggestions on Dewolf. Nothing better than Bristol on a nice day/night along the water. I belive Quito's clam shack/restuarant is open now too!

Dj's near the Garden. Any reports?

Tried DJs last night before the Celtics playoff game. After being in the Garden area for a couple of nights, we became tired of the surrounding spots (The Fours, Canal Bar). We decided to finally try DJ's since last time we stopped in the kitchen was already closed. I had the fish tacos, great choice. The salsa vinagrette along with the sour cream really was tasty. Tilapia was the fish used and it was grilled with some cajun spice. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries also and he really enjoyed his meal. The wait wasn't as bad as the other area spots, about 15-20 mins and it was an hour and a half before game time. Plenty of tv's. The waitress we had was accomodating but didn't seem overly enthusiastic about working that evening. Definately great to see a restaurant with different choices in the area. Looking over at some of the other tables the meatball appetizer and sirlon salad looked delicious! Can't wait for our next visit. Go Celts! oan....the bathroom was really clean!

Nick's on Broadway - Providence, R.I.

I had my first experience at Nick's for brunch this past Saturday and also felt like I needed to write a review. I know that Nick's is raved about on these boards for brunch, so we finally made our way there and it was definately worth the trip. It was outstanding!

My husband claimed that he had the best eggs benedict in his life! Since i had some bites off of his plate, I had to agree. He ordered his with rosemary ham. I had the vegatable frittata which was so gigantic that I took 3/4 of it home, since our waitress informed us that they reheat really well. Well, she was correct, my husband and I finished it off the next day along with the side of sausage I ordered. I had the brown maple sausage but our waitress told us that they had really great special sausages. On Saturday, the special was duck sausage but she says they change it up often and have a large variety! There was so many side orders of sausage flying out of the kitchen, but I could see (taste) why it was such a popular choice! They were fantastic! As far as the home fries, really really delicious! Sweet and savory!

We can't wait to head back and make Nick's our go to brunch spot. We got there about 10:00/10:30 and there wasn't a line, but as we left there was one out the door. In the past, we have eaten at Julian's which we love too, but Nick's was definately a great change!!!

Staying at the Onyx Hotel for the weekend. Looking for a great brunch place on Saturday morning. Average prices/Above average food with cocktails. Would be willing to take a taxi somewhere but don't mind walking distance. Good exercise after a big brunch! Thanks.

Siena or Pane E Vino Providence?

It must be the acoustics in the buildings?? I just thought it was Saturday night packed with people conversing loudly?! Funny, that the one in E.G. is the same way.

Siena or Pane E Vino Providence?

Thanks for all of your advice. We ended up at Siena and had an oustanding meal. The place was mobbed! It was loud but not uncomfortably loud, we could hold a conversation at all times. It was lively and seemed like everyone was out and at Siena! We took that as a sure sign that the food and experience should bo good. We were seated in a little table tucked away in the corner of the restaurant. Husband and I started with the portabella mushroom appetizer which was delicious. The mushrooms were really large and stuffed with herbs and feta cheese? I think... they were topped with bacon. We also received a bread basket with assorted of great tasting breads. For an entree, I got the Chilean Sea Bass (which came with grilled scallops covered in a wonderful sauce, also came with roasted potatoes and green beans). I am usually not a big fan of seabass, but our waitress reccomended it and I am glad I took her advice it was wonderful. Husband got the Veal Chop, also reccomended by our waitress. That too, was cooked perfectly. We didn't have time for dessert since we had tickets to a show, but we will definately head back to Siena to try some of the other menu items that sounded great and dessert that looked scrumptious on other tables! I will be sure to try Pane e Vino before I head back to Siena though since I would love to compare the two.

Siena or Pane E Vino Providence?

Have reservations at both this Saturday, can't decide which to keep? I have been to Siena once before and enjoyed my meal although my husband has never experienced it. We have also heard great things about Pane E Vino. Some people stating it is the best Italian on the Hill. I am not a big red sauce/pasta person but husband is. I know Siena has many great entree choices. Any opinions on what to do??

Ten Steak and Sushi Providence

I am taking my husband to Ten Steak and Sushi this weekend for his birthday. It has been a favorite of ours, but we haven't been there in a good three months. Someone mentioned that they were there last weekend and had an awful meal. Sushi was not fresh, service was bad. Anyone have any recent experiences, hopefully better??

Nat Porter Reopening

Used to get pizza from F or F when it first opened but haven't been for a while. I do walk by there frequently and it never looks very busy and always has a now hiring sign in the window. The East Bay is hurting from some great food places, hopefully the new owners of Nat Porter put a dining spot that the East Bay is lacking and in need of. There are some decent spots though, i.e. Stella Blues, DeWolf, Le Central and Perisimmon to name a few.

North End

Thanks all, for swaying me away from Bricco. Like I said we have never eaten in the area so have no clue. I have gotten recs basically from people that have been there and chowhounders. Taranta it is! I booked our reservation. Unfortunately, Prezza is completely booked for the times we wanted. Hopefully we have a great experience and it won't be our last visit to the North End so we can try Prezza! I did hear great things about Caffe Victoria for coffee and dessert. We want to wander around before dinner for a cocktail so maybe we will start there, unless there is a better option for coctails before dinner. We will be parking in a garage.

North End

Thanks for the recs! I have heard good things about prezza, carmen and taranta....we would like a romantic atmosphere, but lively and fun is great too. We were just primarily looking for a place with maybe some live music good drinks, no clubs.

North End

Husband and I celebrating anniversary this weekend (we are early 30's). I know this post is everywhere on the board but, would appreciate any new input. We are from Rhode Island and usually have meals in Providence (downtown and Federal Hill). We have never eaten in the North End but here there are fantastic places so we are giving it a try this Saturday. It is a special occassion dinner (obviously). I am not a pasta lover but husband is. Looking for a place with great ambiance, but entertaining and of course great food. Our agenda is pretty open if you can lead us in right direction. Looking for drinks before dinner, great dinner and then some place for dessert and coffee drinks. Thanks! .....Some recs for hanging out after dessert would be appreciated also.
