Paneer in Central VT or Burlington area?

Hi - I was in Healthy Living on Dorset Street last week and noticed they had some in the Asian foods aisle. I should've grabbed some for myself...now I want some saag paneer!

Rehearsal Dinner at Downtown BYOB Phil. Restaurant

Hi - I recently had my rehearsal dinner (on a smaller scale) at Branzino and the food and service were great. Servers were very attentive and the food was excellent. I had a very picky group and everyone enjoyed their meal. Good luck!

Philly Wedding Cake Recommendations - esp. South Philly

Hi - just wanted to follow up and thank you for your suggestions. I did finally make contact with the Night Kitchen and they were very accommodating, but I ended up having my cake made by Davina, the baker at Franklin Fountain (via friends). She was fantastic to work with and delivered exactly what I'd wanted in my price range. Also, the cake was pretty and most importantly, was DELICIOUS! Several attendees commented that it was the best cake they'd ever eaten. I'd totally recommend contacting her for your wedding cake needs :-).

Suggestions for rehearsal dinner resto in Rittenhouse Sq- Midtown Philly?

Just wanted to say that we went with Branzino for our rehearsal dinner and it was excellent. I had the Maiale alla Griglia and the husband-to-be had the Involtini di Vitello and both were fabulous. Loved my fig gelato as well. All other members of the party were very satisfied with their dishes (didn't get to sample any of those, sadly!). The service was good and the ambience was quite nice. We also appreciated how relaxed they were about my bridesmaid's month-old (well behaved) baby attending. All in all, a success! Thanks for the responses.

Philly Wedding Cake Recommendations - esp. South Philly

Hi - I'm currently living in Vermont and am getting married in Philly the first week of October. I'd love to get some recommendations for bakeries for my wedding cake. We're having a small wedding so I don't need anything huge or outrageous. I want something that's unique and pretty (but not-frou frou), but the taste is the most important factor! I'd love to narrow the field before I come down for my wedding. My ideal cake is two layers (or three small layers), incorporates chocolate and hazelnuts, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg (I don't want to spend more than $100). Also, if they're not in downtown Philly, I'd need delivery as an option. I've got Varallo's on my shortlist, but they don't work with fondant, which I think I may want. I know Isgro's does cakes, as does Termini's, but would like some opinions/other options. Looking online, I love the way the cakes from the Night Kitchen and Truli look, but I'm also getting a bit frustrated because the bakeries aren't getting back to me! I'd appreciate any recommendations. Thanks so much!

Suggestions for rehearsal dinner resto in Rittenhouse Sq- Midtown Philly?

I'm currently living in Vermont and getting married in Philly in October. I'm looking for a nice, moderately priced (preferably) BYOB restaurant for the rehearsal dinner. We're going to be a party of 8-10 people, some of whom are finicky eaters (i.e., nothing too spicy or ethnic...sigh). I'd prefer BYOB but don't want the hassle of a cash-only place (or I'd try to get into Mercato). I've taken a look around the board and have seen recommendations for Branzino. Are there any other places you'd recommend? I don't want to deal with poor service or mediocre food. The dining scene in the Burlington area is a little sparse so I want to make the most of my time in town! Thanks for the help.

Chocolate Icebox Cake with Mascarpone and Blackberries

I made this for a special birthday dinner and took the advice of a poster above and used Kahlua in lieu of the blackberry liqueur - yum! I used a bit more mascarpone cheese for extra creaminess and garnished the cake with cocoa powder and bittersweet chocolate. Easy and very delicious!

Taste of Burlington

Thanks to OCatswell for posting the above link. My bf and I are going there for Valentine's dinner...I am looking forward to it enormously!

what says 'Vermont' to you?

I second Big Barn Red as a wine choice - yummy! And for me, I think Dakin Farm cob-smoked bacon when I think of Vermont. That would make a very tasty garnish for your garlic soup. Or... you could try making maple-candied bacon - two great tastes in one!

FYI- Miguels Stoweaway Closing Church Street Location

I'm from Philly originally and though I am loving Vermont, I really miss my Mexican food (and my Indian food).... I'd chip in to import a good Mexican chef! I'll give Roque's a try. I've also heard about a place called Mexicali on the waterfront, has anyone been there?

I'm also teaching myself to cook some relatively easy Mexican dishes to tide me over until my next trip to Philly. My boyfriend and I joke around about opening up a Mexican/Indian/Thai restaurant/gelateria. Doesn't sound like silly idea now!

FYI- Miguels Stoweaway Closing Church Street Location

Hello, I'm new to the Burlington area (and Vermont)and new to Chowhound. My boyfriend and I were upset to hear about Rosita's closing (we ate there on a pretty much weekly basis!)and now that Miguel's is closed, we are at a loss to know where to go for good, authentic Mexican food, which we desperately crave. Does anyone have suggestions? I didn't think Miguel's was that good, but we did like the chile rojo and chile verde. Thanks!
