tamale lady in the east village
Update::The tamales are now available on Saturdays and Sundays at the Flea Market on E. 11th Street and Avenue A--also available lunches. Wonderful!!
anyone else note a decline in the H&H bagel?
sad but true and they are way too expensive--Zabar's are less money and taste great too--
Woman Selling Tamales on E 14th St & 1st Avenue
I just saw the second tamale seller for the first time on the east side of 14th street and first avenue near where they sell the newspapers. My go-to tamale woman sells in the area of Ave C and E 3rd Street through the EV.
Woman Selling Tamales on E 14th St & 1st Avenue
Anyone tried these tamales??Are they good?? I buy them from another woman who makes tamales and sells them more in the East Village and they are terrific.
The Tamale Lady
I love the tamales--3 kinds spicy chicken-chicken and cheese with peppers. $1.00 each--very reasonable and filling.
Tamale Woman
Yesterday I ran into her and she is around. I ate a birthday tamale for breakfast and off I went. Could not post cause I was busy. But she is around--I ran into her on 1st Avenue and 9th Street at 10AM yesterday. Yeah!
Pasteles and Tamales--the difference??
Thanks for all your updates on tamales and pasteles--I love both of them--the sweet ones sound devine too-I love guava and guava tarts rocks too!
What do Chowhounds do for a living (besides eat of course)?
I am now a photo journalist
I recommend Gus & Gabriel's Gastropub 222 West 79th Street
Just ate lunch there yesterday with a good friend. The barbequed pulled pork steak is a barbeque "moment". Tender--served with mashed potatos and roasted corn--a winner. We also ordered the fish and chips--a gourmet version of fish nuggets and delicious malt vinegar for the chips. A large selection of bourbons-whiskeys-beers from all over the world rounds out my fun lunch. Our waiter/host was attentive and nice. Entrees range around $13.00--apps around $8.00 for lunch. I recommend this restaurant and the ambience is cool too.
Egg Cream Round-up
Ray's On Ave A-I love the coffee egg cream and the chocolate one too--the vanilla is good too--Rays rocks.
Clinton Street Bakery & Restaurant
Blueberry pancakes and biscuits with jam--sounds good to me. Thanks for the recs.

I agree with Rawlins and Ottleys--great food and beautiful surroundings.
Hummous Place On St. Marks
They are expanding as I write to the place next door and combining their original space.
Hidden Restaurants of Manhattan?
I ate a lovely meal at The Ukrainian Home Restaurant more than once--great fruit drink--great blintzes and homemade rice pudding. Yum--planning to go again this week. It is out of the way and nice.
Just got my Tamales
Was giving a "heads up" that the woman who makes them was seen and tamales bought and eaten on the spot.
