Chowhound in Buffalo - what not to miss
Well, go to BarBill's in East Aurora and get both wings and beef of wek - one stop shopping. Boce Club Pizza has been recommended to you before and unless you want something more than local cuisine, that will do you this visit.
If you want an idea of what is available, look at http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/restaurant.guide/nonframed.index.shtml
Where can I buy foie-gras, truffles, and game meats (mainly rabbit and duck) in Buffalo?
Wegman's at McKinley has duck and rabbit. I've also gotten it at Broadway market.
Columbus, Ohio sushi
My rule used to be that I didn't think about eating sushi unless the city (Or sometimes) the state I was in had seacoast. It became less a concern when aircraft got faster and freezing technology got better. I mean, it was a classic 'yesterdays fish' situation.
So now I am going to Columbus and HAVE to eat sushi (undisclosed reasons) and I'm hoping things aren't as bad in Columbus as one might suspect - It is, thankfully , a big college town and surely among other causes might be renewable resources and sustainability as well as a sincere desire not to eat disgusting slop. Maybe not - I recall my own college days......
So have at it Columbs Chowhounds - please a sushi referral.
Decent and quick lunch near Fashion Outlet Mall, Niagara Falls/Buffalo?
Casa Nova, (3041 Military Rd) might do the trick - Good Italian.
La Galera (6621 Niagara Falls Blvd) Good Tex/Mex and Margaritas
Not much else to recommend. The surrounding area isn't a great neighborhood.

50th Birthday in Buffalo
With a group that size and for something a cut above average, I think you're on the right track with Salvatore's. The problem is that a group that size needs space and that rules out a load of locations. If you want good quality, not many restaurants like say, Daniels or Hutches , etc. could do well with the group size. Maybe Chef's? You might look at http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/restaurant.guide/nonframed.index.shtml for more ideas.
The Best Beef-On-Weck in Buffalo
Kat, in looking over your posts, it looks like you've been to Charlie's and Schwabels. What a contrast! You need to enlarge your sample (not that there is anything wrong with Schwabel's). Before you close the book, try a couple of other places. Oh, and by the way, the traditional roll has caraway and you can brush off salt and caraway to taste. Charlie's roll is amongst the worst local examples IMHO.
Great Chicken Parmesan or Lasagna in Buffalo NY?
No shirt, no shoes, no service.....Just be decent.

OK. Specifics - Try Vizzie's on Kenmore Avenue (for burgers or Beef on Weck), Orchid Asian Bistro on Elmwood for Thai/Asian, Torches on Kenmore (everything) Or Suzy-Q's BBQ on River Road.
Food Wars - Wings in Buffalo
So lets get this straight. There's only two contenders for the "King of Wings" in Buffalo - a tourist trap and a collegiate hangout? OK, so it's a faulty premise to start. Add more hype than substance to a Food Network Premiere and that's all you'll taste; the hype.
Hopefully, the debate isn't ended. Tourists will still flock to Anchor Bar and maybe, upon exiting, realize it wasn't as good as the hype. And SUNY students will still not venture far from campus and the rest of us locals can still go get good wings around town and laugh about it all. In the end, any attention built around Buffalo is good attention.
Hopefully, readers of this site know better than to trust to Food Network for recommendations.

Anywhere in Buffalo where I can find fried clams?
Yes, it is - and it's restaurant week here too!
Take a look at

Buffalo has no shrtae of good restaurants and we certainly offer a variety. But yes, we ARE known for "Bar Food" - outstanding bar food, in fact!
If you want quality dining, try Daniel's or someplace in the same bracket.
Zweigle's - where to find in Buffalo (restaurant)
I can tell you that you can get Zweigle's in the supermarkets. And, also being a bit of a heretic, I think they make a good tube steak. If you really want to try a variety - say a taste test, add Wardynski to the mix as well as Spar's.
The Best Beef-On-Weck in Buffalo
Not in a while. As I recall, they have awkward hours.
Anywhere in Buffalo where I can find fried clams?
Just as an aside, isn't this sort of like finding Jambalaya in Kansas? Why not try local delicacies?
The Best Beef-On-Weck in Buffalo
I think the answer may well depend on what you want with your Beef on Weck. If you want the "Full Monty" - say some German Potato Salad and pickled beets washed down with one of their German Imported beers - then it is unquestionably Schwabl's. (And pay for it!)
If you're more in the mood of say, six wings and a Flying Bison Ale with your Beef on Weck, then you might want to visit BarBills.
If you don't mind the imitation Weck and don't want a beer (and no atmosphere) go see Charley the Butcher. If you don't want it rare or with a beer, and speed is the issue - go to Anderson's.
And there are a couple of other worth mentioning along with the others mentioned herein like Eckl's and Vizzi's.
But it's grim! It used to be that beef on weck was available in just about any street corner bar in Buffalo and there were a plethora of good offerings. Not so any longer and I morn the passing of places like Meyers and Bailos.
What we need is a local Chowhound Club that can keep up on changes.
Pizza in Buffalo (split from Ontario board)
I'd go to BarBill for Wings AND Weck and then someplace like Pizza Jnction or Just Pizza for Pizza.
BarBill is about the only place that offers the best in two of the three categories.
Good restaurant near Cortland, New York??
Well, Fabio's has decent Italian, Starr is petty good and Amelia's is supposed to be good. Cortland is sort of a backwater but has the University near by and so has a lot of local hangouts.
DiTondo's in Buffalo - open nights? Reviews/suggestions?
Back in the day, Buffalo used to have a bar on every corner, it seemed. It also seemed as though they all had great food and used to vie for the informal title of best of the rest. Many , really most of those places, have passed into history. It's nice to think there may be a few left out there. Sounds like DiTondo's could be one.
Diners in Buffalo, NY
Now Jerry, BarBills carves it too! (And has wings) But if you want to try the Friday fish fry or the German potato salad, now you're talking. Why not visit both?
And I still think Nelson gave Bourdain short shift - he could have picked better. At least he didn't go to Anchor Bar!
Diners, to me, in their purest form are like former Rail Road cars - Like in NJ. Lake Effects "Car" came from Wayne, PA (I used to eat in it there!) and there are none like it nearby.
Diners in Buffalo, NY
For Beef on Weck, go to BarBill in East Aurora - also some of the best wings you'll ever have. (Stick to medium if you haven't had HOT wings!
Check out http://www.cse.buffalo.edu/restaurant.guide/nonframed.index.shtml and use the cuisine filter for more suggestions.
You might want to try the pizza at Bocce, La Nova, Pizza Junction or Just Pizza.
Diners in Buffalo, NY
As far as Diners are concerned, go to Lake Effect Diner. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/42/461115/restaurant/North-East/Lake-Effect-Diner-Buffalo
Bertha's is also supposed to be good but I can't personally comment not having been there.
If you're looking for local cuisine, it's a different ball game. Also, it would be a help if you could indicate where you'll be staying so you don't have to travel far.

Lake Erie Buffet / Near Angola ??
Indeed, it was the Lakeview. As far as I know, it's long gone. But your memory is correct - it had a very nice buffet.
