Lakers Game in Pasadena/Eagle Rock

how about the new ct lounge? it's the bar adjacent to the coffee table on colorado blvd in eagle rock. i have not been there but i know they have a massive tv and beer. and if they don't have food there, there are many other options within a few blocks.

Has anyone taken a culinary class?

It was a few years ago. (Translation -- before I had a kid) But I took a beginning cooking class (even though I cook all the time) at the Epicurean School on Melrose.

It was fun. We made a lot of things that aren't in my repertoire (tea smoked meat, fresh pasta, etc.) But it was also oddly relaxing. Check it out.

midtown catering/cafe

Please help me remember the name of the amazing lunch place my husband and I went to when visiting NYC. We were staying at a midtown sheraton (near radio city?) and we walked (not far) to a cafe/catering place. When you walk in, there are people working for the catering business -- at their desks. You head past them to the luncheon service area. What is it called??? Help!!!!

TESCO Fresh and Easy

i went at 10. dumb. dumb. dumb. waited (with toddler in tow) to walk inside for 20 minutes, while collecting flyers about unfair labor practices. always a winning sign.
once inside, i experienced super lame cart gridlock ( i know... opening day but still...)
i gotta say, nothing looked all that fresh. for a supposedly eco-friendly store (that's how they've been touting it) there was an awful lot of packaging. everything came in plastic.
i emptied my cart when i realized the check out line stretched all the way down a food aisle. i went straight to trader joes.

Bistro-ish in Pasadena Area

i vote for cafe beaujolais -- they do great halibut. the filet is always good. the soups rule and the waiters are cute and french.

went to the sherman oaks bizou last weekend. "prime rib" was chewy and swimming in thick, brown gravy. nasty.

Do you know Café Beaujolais / Eagle Rock

i second the hunky waiters, halibut and the filet.

whatever the soup is, (mostly veggie purees) they're always good.

the spinach salad rules.

Help me eat in Jackson, TN

My family and I are spending 4 nights in Jackson, TN. Are there any decent (or even marvelous) places there? Anything that isn't part of a chain? Or will I be at the Cracker Barrel the whole time?

I'm open to anyhting. Southern home cooking, bbq, steakhouses, coffee shops, any ethnic food at all????

Anything like Pinkberry in Pasadena?

rose green on brand in glendale. it is just as good (the same) as pb.

Romantic dinner on the east side?

budget's not that important. what matters most to me (the husband may or may not agree) is the quality of the food. i'm hoping there is a place that serves fresh, wonderful food in a setting where we can be comfortable and actually hear each other speak. that being said, i'd rather eat well than eat just okay food on a starlit patio.

it's funny. briganti is the place i keep hearing about. there must be a reason.

We got a sitter so we can finally eat with the grown ups. Would love recommendations in Silver Lake, Downtown or South Pasadena.

Polka's - Eagle Rock (I think)

i haven't been there for a few months but it's always consistently good. it's a family run restaurant - husband and wife - with a very welcoming vibe. you get loads of food (and really good soup) and everything is really tasty. when i was pregnant, the only food i wanted was their beef stew. it's also super kooky inside (like eating in a thrift shop with lotsa mementos and old calendars on the wall.) it's on verdugo and york. i don't know what city it's in either. it's kinda where eagle rock meets sagamore park meets glassel park.

Indian in Pasadena

i don't get the akbar haters. i love it. though, i'll admit it all depends on what you order. akbar has a small dining room.

all india is hit and miss. some dishes are really tasty, some not. the staff is a little cold.

radhika's has a nice dining room and very friendly staff. the food is above average.

new delhi palace is atrocious. sub standard and not very fresh. and it's always packed. go figure.
