Monday Night Football with Food
Hello again.
Does anyone have suggestions for the best place to watch the Monday night game next week.
NE against Miami.
Looking for a good atmosphere and good food, preferable in Cambridge but that's not a deal breaker.
Hotel Marlowe Cambridge- Recommendations
Thanks for all of the suggestions.
Is anyone familiar with the Ronie burger at Miracle of Science?
Hotel Marlowe Cambridge- Recommendations
I'm from Prince Edward Island so our "local" food is pretty similar to New England food. Lots of good restaurants here but we don't have really good ethnic choices and our pizza and sandwich places are universally mediocre.
Hotel Marlowe Cambridge- Recommendations
Thanks cambridgedoctpr.
The last time I was in the US I visited Boston and Clio was absolutely the highlight for food. Ken Oringer seems to have a great touch with spices and not diving too far into the molecular realm.
Helmand seems to come up a lot so I'll have to add that to my list.
I'm not going to have time to jump on the train to NY but the last time I was in Philly I was told pretty much the same thing and I was able to find a great deli sandwich there. I'm holding out hope the same thing will happen in Boston.
Hotel Marlowe Cambridge- Recommendations
I'll be staying for a few days at Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge.
I'd love some recommendations for restaurants within walking distance.
I have done some research already and have a list, although not all are within walking distance, but I'm looking for those "must visit" places that are not necessarily the most well known.
Any ideas on best pizza, best Indian, best South-East Asian, best Deli or sandwiches, other ethnic restaurants would be greatly appreciated.
This is a total foodie outing so I will be eating out 3 times per day or more if I can handle it.
Here is my list so far.

Sam La Grassa's
The Hungry Mother
Craigie on Main

Restaurant Recommendations- Near Plaza 500
FigMint is closed due to health violations.
Seems to be a common theme with this hotel. It's just awful.
I'll be moving to a new location tomorrow.
Recommendations needed near Hotel Le Soleil
I'll be at Hotel Le Soleil for a few days.
567 Hornby St
Does anyone have some good recommendations for food in this neighborhood?
Walking distance is preferable.
I'd love to find some ethnic restaurants and whole in the wall type places that are not necessarily on the usual tourist tour.
Restaurant Recommendations- Near Plaza 500
Thanks Grey.
I will take all recomendations with me and try to get to as many restos possible.
ah-Beetz! seems like a good place for pizza. Is this place in a reasonable driving range?
I hate to ask for Pizza recomendations on this site because it alway ends up being a Chicago Style/New York Style/Real Italian Argument with many self appointed experts claiming there is not good pizza in the city.
I love a good real Italian Pizza.
I also love a good New York Style pizza.
I also love a good Chicago Deep Dish pizza.
I've had them all and I still see nothing wrong with our good old Canadian style pizzas loaded up with toppings and cheese.

Restaurant Recommendations- Near Plaza 500
Thanks for the replies Sam and Lotus.
Tropika looks like a place that will work well.
Sam, I would love to do Saravanaa Bhavan but I am a dedicated meatatarian.
As much as I love Indian food there has to be some animal protein in there.
Love the Fire Fly Wines recommendation though. That is alway my first stop when I get to the city.
We don't have a huge selection, or even a medium selection, here in PEI for fine wines and liquor.

Restaurant Recommendations- Near Plaza 500
I'm going to be in Vancouver for a few days starting on the 25th of April.
Any suggestions for restaurants near the Plaza 500 Hotel?
500 West 12th Avenue
Looking for good ethnic foods, something with some spice.
Also a good pizza place and of course the usual "must visit" local joints.
Pizza and Restaurants Near City Hall- Hotel Allegro
Much appreciated nsxtasy.
I ate at Giordano's some years ago. I recall it being very good.
Do you have a preference between them and Bacino's?
Pizza and Restaurants Near City Hall- Hotel Allegro
I'll be in Chicago for a few days staying near City Hall at Hotel Alegro.
I know these questions get asked again and again but it's hard to find a place in a specific area.
Does anyone have suggestions for Pizza, stuffed preferably, or any other restaurants within walking distance of Hotel Allegro?
Alinea and Moto
For this particular trip I'm more interested in the molecular stuff.
I think a lot of it is going to start fading away so I want to get it while it's still near the peak.
Looks like I'll be going to both Moto and Alinea.
Best Pizza/Whole in the wall restaurant. Specific area.
Pizano's looks like it could be a stop for us. Thanks.
Alinea and Moto
Thanks Pleddy.
I guess I should specify. I will only be doing 2 of these restaurants so I guess I'm looking for suggestions from people who have tried both and would recommend a different restaurant over either Moto or Alinea.
Would that be the case with Schwa?
It's hard to tell these days by looking at a menu because none of the tasting menus have any real descriptions anymore.
Best Pizza/Whole in the wall restaurant. Specific area.
Looking for the best pizza and or under the radar great restaurants in walking distance of the Hotel Allegro.
171 W Randolph St,
Any suggestions?
Alinea and Moto
I will be in Chicago early February for a food conference.
One course I teach deals with food trends and fusion.
Last week I did WD~50 and Clio..
While in Chicago I am thinking Alinea and Moto.
Are there recommended restaurants other than these that I should be looking out for?
One day in Philly
Sorry if it sounds like complaints. These are only observations.
Are there better restaurants than Bibou?
Is the traffic always as bad or is this an anomaly?
I did enjoy my stay in fact, as I have on other visits to Philly.
One day in Philly
We are passing through on the way back to Canada so I figured we should spend a day.
My last trip to Philly was disappointing. I could not find a cheese steak sandwich that was even good. Lot's of recommendations but give me a break with the cheese whiz and canned mushrooms. Nothing close to a good sandwich when you use those toppings.
This time around I had very limited time and reservations at Bibou so as soon as I got to the city I went to Dalessandro's. Finally a cheese steak that I consider to be really, really good. I'm sure there are many more in the city but the last time I only went to 3 places and all were average.
That brings us to Bibou.
I did a lot of research on this board and others and the consensus seemed to be that Bibou is the best if not one of the best restaurants in the city. Really?
With all due respect this restaurant is average.
And I don't even mean average by big city standards. I can name 4 better restaurants in Charlottetown, PEI.
Started with the foie gras.
I'm pretty skeptical when I order foie and it's only $15 but they pulled this dish off very well.
A tiny poached pear with a cinnamon scented pastry and ginger jus. Very nicely done and a good portion of foie.
The chilled fennel soup was good. I'm not a big fan of fennel but this was balanced well with the tomato. My wife enjoyed it more than I did.
They had a special of sauteed chanterelle mushrooms on this evening. Pretty basic, sauteed with shallot, garlic, port/sherry, and cream.
This could have been very good because I love all mushrooms but as usually happens the shallot/garlic blend is sauteed at too high heat and the flavor ends up dominating the dish and you can't taste the mushroom.
IMHO the mushrooms should always be sauteed first and then the shallots and garlic just sweated in the mushroom juices before adding glace and cream.
Main courses were the Pied de Porc, which was OK. The flavor was fine and it was served in a bowl of lentils flavored with bacon. Certainly nothing outstanding and very little foie gras to be found.
A few days ago I had the stuffed Pied de Cochon at the restaurant of the same name in Montreal so the bar was set pretty high. This one didn't match up at all.
I also had the veal dish. Veal medallions with sweetbreads.
I love sweetbreads but not the way they were presented here. The veal medallions were fine but they were just salted and seared on a flat top. Nothing new here.
The sweetbreads, instead of being cut in nice slices were basically chopped into small bits and almost seemed deep fried. They were mixed in with an unremarkable orzo.
Risotto would have worked much better and a simple seared slice of sweetbread would serve the dish much better.
Worst of all, the greens that were mixed in with the orzo were very gritty. They were either not washed at all or they were very poorly washed.
That is unacceptable on all levels.
I don't mind a crowded room. I don't mind a little noise.
The hostess, (one of the owners?) was very friendly. The servers ranged from good to sloppy.
Overall I would only give this restaurant a 5.
I know that may be fair based on a single visit but that's the only visit I will probably make.
On a side note, what is the deal with the traffic.
We were in Philly on a Saturday Afternoon and it too an hour to get a few blocks in any direction.
I assume that at least one of the teams were playing.
Was Penn playing? I didn't think Ivy league started this early.
I know Temple was playing at Penn St.
Is PS in the city?
There is also a ton of construction it seems.
It must have been a nightmare summer of driving if this day was any indication.
Indian in Montreal.
I was going to write a review but I think this one will do.
Horribly sweet food for no reason and terrible service.
There were a couple of friendly waiters but the guy who appears to be the head honcho was an absolute dick.
Way to many good Indian restaurants out there to bother with this one.
La Maison du Nord pork sandwich
I was there today.
Not really sure why it's so popular. Plain flavored food in my opinion.
Anyway the sandwich came with cilantro on it and the waitress, a tall girl, had no problem understanding any of my requests.
Restaurants near Hôtel Le Cantlie Suites
mainsqueeze, coincidentally a former student of mine came in today and suggested I go to Boustan. I was looking for a good Lebanese spot.
Good to hear that it's in the right neighborhood.
Restaurants near Hôtel Le Cantlie Suites
Thanks for that mainsqueeze.
I'm going to eat the Pork Sandwich at Maison de Nord based on that thread.
Vasco de Gamas sounds good superbossmom. I might give that a go as well.
Pat's or Geno's for cheesesteak?
What I love is that people don't have the brains to read a simple post.
The OP clearly stated his objective.
He clearly wanted an opinion of TWO restaurants. He wasn't asking for a bunch of self appointed experts to pontificate on every cheese steak in the city.
Typical arrogance of people thinking they know so much more than others.
Here's the news people, food is objective. What one may consider to be the best on the planet another may consider to be crap.
When someone asks for a simple comparison between two restaurants either give the reviews if you actually ate there, or shut up and let others do it.
Real easy.
Restaurants near Hôtel Le Cantlie Suites
I'm going to be in Montreal for a couple of days and would like to visit some restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel.
The hotel is Hôtel Le Cantlie Suites located at 1110 Sherbrooke St. West.
Any suggestions, especially ethnic or non-tourist type places would be appreciated.
List of Unique/Fun places.
I'm thinking about calling ahead and having them prepare a menu in advance. I will have some collegues with me in the city so I could probably make it a 4 top. I'll have a look at Ange and Ricky as well.
Squid Ink
I know I've been asking a lot of questions but supplies are limited here.
Is there a place in Montreal that sells squid ink?
List of Unique/Fun places.
That sounds like a great place. I'm suprised Moosemeat didn't recommend it already in this thread.
Do they have a website or online menu?
