Wine selection in Mobile Alabama

I need to track down some rose wines in Mobile. What shops are going to have the (a) biggest selection of roses; (b) the most discriminating selection of roses (i.e. staff has actually tasted and selected all of them and not just bought what the distributors push on them) .

Savannah, GA - Columbia SC run

I am flying into Savannah this Friday around 7p, needing to end up in Columbia, SC 11ish. Looking for a chef-driven or first-rate specialty restaurant (ribs, bbq or . . .) on (or 5 mins off) I-95, or something in Savannah where I can get an very good meal and get out in an hour or so. Thoughts?

Also, anyone know a good dinner spot around Okatie, SC (but not on Hilton Head?)

Many thanks.

St. Paul Monday Night Dinner: Downtown, Selby, Grand?

Thanks to all posters. Ended up at La Grolla, which was just on the borderline for dining room noise, thanks to a pretty good Monday evening crowd. My thumbnail review for La Grolla is stick to salad, vegetables and red meat. Pastas and seafood are hit and miss. Desserts are usually good but we passed. Aloha.

St. Paul Monday Night Dinner: Downtown, Selby, Grand?

Okay. . .

I have a group of four needing dinner in St. Paul this Monday night.

One of the party has real difficulty hearing in loud-ish, noisy dining rooms, which are a downtown St. Paul specialty. Another is a picky eater. (Everyone in the group is over 60, but no way are we going to the Lexington.)

My first choice was Meritage - closed Monday evenings
My second: Sakura, but Japanese doesn't work for one of the group
Choice #3. . .Heartland, but too foodie for two of the crew.

Dining rooms at St. Paul Grill, Kincaid's and Pazzaluna are too loud, and I'm not crazy about the last two anyway. Black Sheep Pizza too casual etc etc etc.

So any thoughts about nice, good food, only moderate din, and open Monday nights?
Faces? (never been there), W.A. Frost? ( I eat in the bar twice a month; haven't been in the dining room for five years), Moscow on the Hill? Mancini's? The Strip Club?

Rancho Bernardo???

Thanks for the Cavaillon suggestion. Solid French cooking. Delicious short ribs and very nice wine-by-the-glass list. What I had was priced fairly. I'll return next time I am in town.

Rancho Bernardo???

Can anyone recommend a small chef-owned restaurant in Rancho Bernardo, or a good strip-mall ethnic place?

Plymouth Meeting to Bryn Mawr - Sunday evening

I need suggestions for very good ethnic food or small chef-owned restaurants around/in-between Plymouth Meeting and Bryn Mawr. A tourist, my original pick for Sunday dinner is not open Sundays.

Jacob's Kitchen - I'On (Mount Pleasant/Charleston)

Since I am always telling road-weary friends and colleagues to use Chowhound as a travel resource, I am doubly pleased when the site comes through for me.

Faced in Charleston with options of expensive downtown restaurants and tourist-trappy rib and fish spots, I followed the reccomendation above and had a wonderful meal at Jacob's Kitchen, located just over the bridge in Mt. Pleasant. As a single diner I did not sample much on the menu, but I had an excellent green salad, a very tasty (and large) pork chop with grilled zucchini, sweet potatoes and some sauteed apples; and a nice Zinfandel from the glass wine list. And for both the quality and the portion sizes, the prices were extremely reasonable. I could have easily been satisfied with just the entree plate. Plus easy parking and able, friendly guidance from staff.

If anything, the portions seemed too large, as the margins (and likely the chance of long-term success for the place) could be improved by cutting portions 10-20% at the same price-point. They might sell more dessert that way, too.

The only negative was room acoustics. The place was sparsely attended when I was there, and it was clear that the room would be very, very loud at any capacity over half full.

I will definitely be back next time I am in the Charleston/Mt. Pleasant area.

Ohio Help: Newark/Heath/Columbus area

This Saturday, May 17, I may need to find a decent restaurant for eight people in the Newark/Heath, Ohio area. We could venture a bit closer to Columbus but would want to stay on the northeast side of the metro.

The only factor complicating choice of venue is the participation of a 5th grader and a 6th grader who are notoriously picky eaters. The adults are just interested in good, fresh food. Steakhouse or pizza place fine as long as the latter has some decent pastas and salad.

Cleveland - East Suburban restaurant with private dining?

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Trying to put something together at Paladar

Cleveland - East Suburban restaurant with private dining?

I need a restaurant around or just east of 271 (in the Pepper Pike to Chagrin Falls area) for a small dinner (12-15 people). Any suggestions of a restaurant with decent food that would have private dining rooms? Moderate to expensive okay. Thanks!

Orange County Help!: Laguna Hills to San Clemente

Working in southern Orange County next week. Need recommendations for moderately-priced dinner spots, particularly in San Clemente or north a bit and convenient to the 5. My usual favorites are small, chef-owned; top area ethnic, california/italian or reliable seafood.
