Of all the "elite" restaurants in Manhattan, which one is the most romantic and intimate?
Just wondering, of all the "elite" restaurants in Manhattan (up to you what are the elite restaurants, but whatever restaurants you think is the absolute best in Manhattan, assuming price is of no concern), which one is the most romantic and, more importantly, intimate?
Thanks!
Generally, which night is busier for Manhattan restaurants? Friday or Saturday?
Let's say I don't have that choice? It is strictly Friday or Saturday night.
Thanks!
Generally, which night is busier for Manhattan restaurants? Friday or Saturday?
I am just trying to find a day when I have less of a chance to be rushed, less noisy, etc.
I am thinking of a popular, tapas-like place like Casa Mono, Boqueria, etc. I know, they are so popular that it won't make much of a difference between Friday and Saturday. I am just wondering IF i have to pick a relatively less busy day, which one it should be.
Thanks!

Let's say all things equal, GENERALLY, which night is busier for Manhattan restaurants? Friday or Saturday night?
Thanks!
Tired of Restaurant Week Criticism
If they are losing money, then tell them to stop doing it. Or put out a sign that says "come here, pay $24.07 and expect food that is NOT our usual quality and service that is NOT our usual standard." Just make it perfectly clear to everyone. What restaurants should not do is blame everything on the price. It's time for you and restaurants to own up to your decisions and actions. If you're losing money and hate it so much, then stop doing it. Trust me, none of us would miss it. Just don't do a shitty job and then rant.
Places like Jean Georges have been doing year-round lunches for $24-28 for a long time, they seem to be managing just fine and I didn't find that they had to sacrifice quality or service and treat patrons like crap.
I was going to say that I hope I don't end up in your restaurant one day. But judging from your attitude and considering the kind of places who would hire a person like you, I highly doubt I will anyway.
Quick Vote: JKWB, Cava, Rain, Monsoon
I have read all the reviews on here about these restaurants, but want to get a feeling of how the general public feels.
Suppose someone will pay for your meal at ONE of these restaurants tonight (only one of these four, absolutely no other choices), which one would you choose?
JK Wine Bar, Cava, Rain, Monsoon
You don't even have to give an explanation, I have a feeling of the pros and cons, I guess.
Thanks so much!!!!
Proud Torontoians! Where to bring serious foodies from NYC?
Not sure about Colborne Lane, since they already have WD-50, Degustation, etc. As for Nota Bene, while it's an excellent restaurant, I'm not sure it is really so different from what they can get in New York.
I agree, however, with the ethnic suggestion (especially Chinese).
Open kitchen aside from Degustation?
I'm actually looking for restaurants that are centered around the open kitchen / cook in front of you concept.
So I guess Ko, Chikalicious and Degustation fit the bill. Are there others?
Thanks!
Open kitchen aside from Degustation?
Just wondering, does New York have more great "open kitchen" restaurants like Degustation?
I am looking for non-Japanese/sushi, though. Also, aside from Robuchon and Boqueria.
Thanks!
How busy are PDT and Little Branch late Thursday's?
kathryn, LES Crawler, thank you for the reply. What if we really want some privacy? Is it possible to call at 3pm that day (a Thursday) to reserve one of the 2-tops at PDT for midnight?
Thanks!
How busy are PDT and Little Branch late Thursday's?
Thanks budnball. Just wondering, how busy is Pegu Club on Thursday at midnight then?
I'm actually looking for a more quiet, laid back atmosphere to talk.
How busy are PDT and Little Branch late Thursday's?
Just wondering, how busy are PDT and Little Branch on a Thursday at around midnight? Which one would be more crowded (and thus should be avoided)?
Also, for PDT, is it possible to make a reservation for two at a booth / table? Or do parties of two have to sit at the bar?
Thanks!
Help - Tribeca breakfast recommendations
Yeah, I'm trying to keep the walking distance within less than 10 minutes.
I like Blaue Gans and Bouley Bakery, but they are not formal enough. As I mention, this is more of a VIP rather than a friend (think political figure).
Thanks!
Help - Tribeca breakfast recommendations
Thanks everyone for the recommendations so far!
Unfortunately, Spring St Natural does not fit my needs.
Upstairs at Bouley is good, but I need a place for a weekday morning, and it only serves brunch on weekends.
Any other suggestions besides Tribeca Grand and City Hall?
Thanks!!
Help - Tribeca breakfast recommendations
Hi,
I have to entertain a very special guest on a weekday morning in Tribeca. Looking for breakfast joint recommendaitons.
I have heard good things about Bubby's and Kitchenette, but I need something a little pricier / more formal (but within Tribeca). Is City Hall restaurant my only choice?
Thanks a lot!!
What is the current wait time at Hakata Ippudo?
Say for two people, and on a weeknight at 7pm or later.
Thanks!
Best NON-innovative restaurant?
Just wondering, what is the best fine-dining but NON-innovative restaurant in the DC area? Basically, nothing / no dishes too out there.
Assuming about $150-200 for two people, excluding tips, tax and alcohol.
Thanks so much!
In New York terms, is cheesecake = butter cake?
I was looking at the menu for many famous cheesecake shops in New York, but I can't find a cheesecake!
For example, look at the menu for Two Little Red Hens:
http://www.menupages.com/screenmenu.asp?restaurantId=51576&htmllink=E21575DE97C2CAC38D46661724EBC5F63372B2B229BD42ED8D68F36E54C79FF66F9FBCCC89F34BAA&taglineid=0
So where is the cheesecake?
Is the classic Yellow cake ("a classic vanilla butter cake") the classic New York cheesecake then?
Or is the classic New York cheesecake just not on the menu?
Thanks!
An upscale breakfast place to do work in?
I know this is an odd / particular request, but is there an upscale (the only reason why I'm asking for upscale is because I prefer a quiet atmosphere with not much noise / commotion) restaurant in Toronto that serves breakfast on weekdays and that I can comfortably do work in without being hurried out?
Location almost doesn't matter, although I prefer not to go too west (let's say I draw the line around Bathurst).
Thanks so much everyone!!
Per Se or Eleven Madison?
If it is just between the two, Per Se hands down.
If you have tried Keller already, however, you may want to try another restaurant. In my opinion, Jean Georges and Daniel are both superior to Eleven Madison. Although you will find plenty of EMP loves on this board.
Capital Grille reservations tonight - any help?
Terribly ordinary.
You should avoid wasting your money.
Le Bernardin - (almost) heavenly
I have not had a disappointing meal at le bernardin yet. I'm hoping I will not, either. I plan to go some time next week...
Most elegant brunch
What is the most elegant brunch place in town? Food is important, but I'm looking for an elegant, serene, not crazy crowded atmosphere. Location / cuisine / budget not an issue.
Thanks!!!
Restaurants Report: Le Bernardin, Blue Hill, Bouley, Gramercy Tavern, Yasuda, Balthazar, Clinton Baking, Daniel, Aquavit, Eleven Madison Park...
"But this thread (among others) just goes to show how different tastes are,"
Agreed. I recently just had the opposite experience.
My girlfriend and I just accompanied two out of town guests to EMP (it's their choice. Since I have only had one - albeit very disappointing - meal at EMP, I did not feel that it would be fair for me to discourage them from going). And while they praised the setting, they told me after the meal that they were both thoroughly disappointed with the food (they had no problem being honest since it was their suggestion and not mine). I didn't ask them to elaborate but they were overtly disappointed at the fact that one of their few meals in the city was "wasted", in a way (we couldn't get into Per Se, which was their first choice. But they took EMP over Jean Georges, Le Bernardin, Daniel... etc).
I also wish that I had the experience at EMP as yours, since I think there is a lot to like about EMP (let alone the fact that I am a pretty big Danny Meyer fan). But after two disappointing experience I don't think I will be returning any time soon.
Marseille or Nice Matin?
No preference as to cuisine or neighborhood (Manhattan), but preference as to good food, good wine, and around Nice Matin / Marseille's price point (my only requirement).
No wine bar, no tapas bar...
Thanks!
Marseille or Nice Matin?
Are there any other retaurants that you would take over Marseille, for the same price points? Good food and wine.
Thanks!
Marseille or Nice Matin?
For dinner, wine is a (but not the most important) consideration.
Thoughts?
