Green Onion Rant

"Distress" is a little strong, but the note made me feel better, as have all the suggestions.

What store do you shop at that sells small bundles? Here, in San Jose, I do not know of one, but I would love to be informed of one that does.

Green Onion Rant

Green onions and other fresh spices are just annoying. Recipes call for them in generally small quantities and supermarkets sell them in not small quantities. As a cook for myself and/or a small family there just seems to be no way to acquire these ingredients and not waste more than half of it. Specifically, with green onions I will use it in, say, mabodofu. That might use four or five onions, then I will cut up the rest of the bundle on the theory that I will use it in eggs or something. Which does sometimes really happen. But eventually, a week or two later, I clean out the fridge and throw out a handful of rotting green onion that I felt so frugal in chopping up.
I really think about, you know, planning how to make use of a whole bunch of green onions that I bought, say, for making green onion pancakes. But that is just a little insanely obsessive.
Why can’t the supermarket sell me three or four green onions for a quarter instead of a bunch for a dollar? It seems like they would make more money selling it this way to people like me and I would feel better not throwing away stuff I could not use.
Thank you for indulging me in this little rant, now get off my lawn.

What to do with Crema Casera?

I got a container of crema casera to make rajas (highly recommended if you haven't had them - think creamed spinach but with roasted poblanos). But now I have 1/2 a container of crema casera looking for a home in someone's digestive tract. I went looking for recipes and all I find online so far is enchiladas suizas. Any suggestions?

thanks,

There must be places in the Silicon Valley. Recommendations anyone?

Long Beach Eateries?

Take a look at the other long beach threads - There are good thai and cambodian options that's for sure. And lets not forget Bake 'n Broil.on the other side of town.

Your favorite sandwich. Ones you make at home.

Ok, this is evil, but an egg mcmuffin with strawberry jelly on it is the bomb. I have done my own home version of this so I guess I am still technically on topic ;-)

Which KitchenAid Stand Mixer?

Better still are the ones they made before everything went plastic and aluminum. My mom's Kitchen Aid mixer purchased 1964 is still going strong.

Favorite breakfast places-location doesn't matter

I'll second the motion on Bake and Broil. Original Pancake House also gets the big thumbs up.

I really like their milk chocolate. I hope Hersheys leaves their formulations alone....
