Cafe Mei Mei--Has anyone tried it yet?

I Had breakfast at Cafe Mei-Mei a few weeks ago and it was great and a bargain. I had the fried eggs (3) with jalapenos and gouda, it came with two spicy chicken sausages and hashbrown potatoes shaped like a torpedo. Even the bread was exceptional it was from Caputo I had thick sices of seven grain toast. they serve Stumptown coffee and it is a bottomless cup. this a far cry from the greasy diner food in the neighborhood. another item that looked great were Jonnie Cakes with Gravlax. They do breakfast from 7am until 1pm, No breakfast on Mondays!

Bagel Survey

Murray's on 12th and Sixth ave does it for me. I especially love their Multi-Grain everything Bagel .... perfect with their Whitefish salad and a slice of red onion or Olive cream cheese (green and black olives) yum!

Is Amy Ruth's the ONE?

They are under construction in the old Gage and Tollner location (they were there from 1892) I hope Amy Ruth's has a long and successful run as well!

Argentine butcher

Have a look in Elmhurst, Queens ... Argentine and Uraguian Neighborhood. I will see if I can get you a name. If you want to eat out ... I highly recommend "La Fusta" in the same neighborhood.

The best churro in New York?

How "gourmet" can fried dough with a bit of sugar be? They taste as good as any I've had in Argentina. IMHO.

The best churro in New York?

I am partial to the churros at Doughnut Plant in Manhattan. I like all their other doughnuts as well.

Best Mexican in Manhattan

I like Zarella ... 953 Second Ave near 50th street. Food, drink and ambiance are first rate. It can be a bit too loud at times. Try the Oaxacan lamb.

Does 'quality' beef jerky exist?

As for the Asian style jerky, I love new Beef King in Manhattan's Chinatown. It is located at 89 Bayard street. They have yummy beef and pork jerky dry or wet styles. They also have a website www.newbeekking.com

cafe du monde/coffee with chicory

Chicory was also added in this country when Coffee was being rationed. How about a Cafe Du Monde iced Cafe Au Lait with a few Beignets .. ah those were the days!

BEST BAGELS IN NYC

Murray's on 13th and sixth ave gets my vote. Just the right size and texture. Most of the spreads and salads are also great (heavenly whitefish salad) excellent smoked salmon as well.

Vegetarian Chinese food in Chinatown (Manhattan)

I don't have a favorite in Manhattan, however a quick trip to Brooklyn Heights and you can dine at the Greens. Great menu good service and cheap. Try Yin and Yang made from mushrooms .. very dense and meat-like with a great sauce. They also have my favorire cold noodles in sesame sauce ( flat spinach noodles). You will enjoy it as much as your vegitarian date will. It us upstairs on Montague and Henry I believe.

Enjoy!

Bagel Recommendations

F-Line are indeed great, just about the only real bagels in Carroll Gardens. MTA is so lame to bust the chops of a small business like this ... F**** them!

ISO Cold Noodles and Sesame Sauce

I love the noodles at The Greens in Brooklyn Heights ... flat green noodles with a great sauce. This a vegitarian/kosher Chinese restaurant. Another favorite here is Yin and Yang ... realy dense mushrooms in terrific sauce that tastes just like pork! Upstairs on Montague street.

Bagel Recommendations

Brooklyn Bread are tasty! ... but more like a round bread with a hole in the middle. They are not boiled but just baked. It may sound like heresy to pureists but I love their bagel with a core of dark chocolate, yum!

For traditional bagels I love Murrays!

Best Brazilian food in Manhattan

I haven't been there in years but you might want to try Cabana Carioca on west 45 street in Manhattan. Whoops, I believe they have closed!

Help! I need to buy a pie today (Park Slope area).

Jump on the F Train to Manhattan and head for the Cupcake Cafe ... 9th Ave and 39st. The Apple or Cherry crumb pie both rock.
