The search for the best soda???

Galco's!

overrated/over hyped?

Couldn't agree more. Overpriced, pretentious, and arrogant. The steaks are fine, but I've had much better. People rave so they won't feel like fools because they paid so much for so little. Yes, you each have your own server when the entrees come. And Chuck E. Cheese has a guy dressed up like a mouse. Concentrate on the food and not the show. And try to get your attitude together. I don't want to feel like you're doing me a favor taking my money.

Cut (another review)

If you like a wildly overpriced meal served with condescension this is your place. They act like they are doing you a favor allowing you to spend $1000 for a meal. It was disgraceful the night we went. The restaurant was empty when we arrived. We were waiting for two other people in our party who were held up because of a fire in Hollywood, but they would not seat us. And we were informed that if they didn't arrive in fifteen minutes they would release our reservation. Very gracious. When we finally were allowed to sit (the people arrived one minute before the fifteen minutes elapsed, we ordered. The appetizers were quite good. Nothing exceptional, but good. And the steaks... oh the steaks. We were all expecting perfection. We got "fine." I got the bone in rib eye which was relatively tasteless and tough. It was huge though, I'll give them that. So if you are impressed with huge, you'd have had a better time than I did. Others had the Kobe new york, the filet... Again, they were fine. Far more tender, but not the remarkable experience that the hype promised. I couldn't help but feel that everyone said their food was magnificent so they wouldn't feel like an idiot paying so much. I have had far better steaks at many different places (not Ruths Chris). Mastros, Arnie Morton's, Capo, even Boa, and, guess what, they didn't make us feel they were doing us a favor. The restaurant business is part of the service industry. Service. Graciousness. Friendliness. Not arrogance, snottiness and pretention. I'll pay a lot for a wonderful night. But this place was the Emporer's New Clothes. And the clothes cost a fortune! Save your money.

Yummy in Venice

It's not great. Very, very ordinary food, at best.

Breakfast in Westwood

Amandine, yes! Love the place.

Sunday...where should we eat DINNER?

I had a great meal at Jar a couple of weeks ago. Terrific service, delicious food, relaxed, a great Sunday dinner.

Apple Pan, Burger & fries $10

It's good. It's fast. And it's close to the movies. I love the place.

Breakfast in Westwood

Go to John O' Groats. Great breakfast. It's on Pico. Not that near the village, but very good.

Italian on the west side

I agree that La Vecchia would be an excellent choice.

Italian on the west side

Vincenti and La Botte hands down! No contest. Of course you pay for it.

Matteo's--anyone been since Dickman took over?

Loved Rocca, but, sad to say, Matteo's is a cheerless old place. And it seems that the food doesn't have the same spark it did at Rocca. It's sort of an unexciting copy of what Rocca did so weell. Perhaps Don wasn't there the night we went, but I don't think I'm going back because the vibe is kind of like a way station to hell.

Which steakhouse gets it "right" regarding how the beef is cooked?

I can honestly say that I have never had a good steak at Ruth's Chris. They are always tasteless, rarely cooked to order, and that stupid molton hot plate the meat comes on continues to cook that meat through. I agree that Boa is very inconsistent. Arnie Morton's is great.
