Best noodle soup near Queen & Spadina?

Am in search of a relatively healthy noodle soup with vegetables, preferably without a lot of MSG. Could be veggies and rice too, but prefer the soups. Any suggestions? Tx.

Sending chocolates to someone in Ottawa

I sent chocolates from Jubilee Chocolates in Pennsylvania a few years ago, and my friends loved it! They live in Toronto. The company is very ethical (they used mint grown at a local school), and the chocolates come in all kinds of flavours. It also comes in a lovely wooden box that friends liked almost as much as the chocolates themselves. Here's the link: www.johnandkiras.com

Where can I get high quality cinnamon (for cinnamon buns)?

Try Saigon Cinnamon from the McCormick's brand. It's a step up from regular cinnamon, but still available at supermarkets.

Fabranak - anyone been?

I've been a number of times. The food is good, though a bit heavy with oil and/or butter. It's adventurous eating though, which is always a plus.

Fabarnak

I"ve been Fabarnak. The food is tasty and sophisticated. My criticism is that it tends to have a lot of fat, especially in the desserts. I had the pork sandwich there a month ago, and the bread was dripping in butter.

You have $10 for a meal, where do you go in Toronto?

Been to Quick Pita on Eglinton, will never go back. Nope. Never again. Can't remember a worse shawarma.

New Pizzeria Libretto location opening on the Danforth

I had dinner at the original Libretto a few years ago at about 5:30pm. There was vibe. I didn't like it.

Sushi Kaji Review

These photos are great. Would you be able to post a few captions/descriptions for those of us not familiar with omakase?

Inexpensive french bistro in Toronto??

It does if you miss the Parisian attitude.

Off the Hook

Yup, whenever I walk by the place is packed.

Brilliant Chinese Restaurant - Different dishes, equally enjoyable!

Dinner.

Brilliant Chinese Restaurant - Different dishes, equally enjoyable!

I asked the same thing a few days ago. We went and had a good meal. We had the Peking duck, which was excellent. It had crispy skin, juicy meat, nice pancakes and tasty sauce. The other dishes were good. We had thd shrimp with crispy fried milk, which I quite liked. The glutinous rice as a main dish was billed as a special but wasn't memorable. Overall we enjoyed our meal. My only complaint was that some of the dishes like the veggie ones had too much oil. I don't know if quality has gone down. I've never been there before so I can't compare.

Brilliant Chinese... stil um, brilliant?

Anyone been recently? Word had it their main chef left.

Nice lunch Yonge + Bloor/Sherbourne?

Not a take-out lunch. Something nicer. Suggestions?

Toronto foodie gift for Ottawa friend?

Will be visiting friends in Ottawa, one of them is a foodie. Thought I'd bring something special from The Centre of the Universe. Suggestions?

Toronto foodie event that's worth the price?

Do you mean, it's a swanky affair?

Toronto foodie event that's worth the price?

I like dessert but there is only so much a gal can eat at one sitting. Is it worth the $?

Will never eat at The Nook again!

The Nook is a basement cafeteria near King and Spadina. I've had two sandwiches from there. The last one was a pesto chicken. I thought it might be relatively healthy; the only sin ingredient being cheese. OMG! A TON of mayo for the sauce, plus butter for the panini. It was so fattening I had a stomachache for the rest of the day and I couldn't eat much else. Plus, there was a motherload of salt. I got the salt tremors and have avoided sodium today.
I don't usually complain publicly about a restaurant but I can honestly say it was the most unhealthy thing I've eaten in years.

Quick lunch at King and Spadina?

I just ate a pesto chicken sandwich from Nook, the basement café. My colon is hurting! So much fat in that sandwich. I thought I'd be safe (the worst ingredient was cheese), but there was loads of fat/mayo in the pesto. I need to find a better option.

Quick lunch at King and Spadina?

Lots of choice, not sure where to go. I'd like something relatively healthy and not over $10 - $12. Any recommends?

Prairie Girl or Petit Thuet -- buying treat for friend

Found out the hard way -- nice packaging for a single cupcake, but don't let it knock against anything. The frosting sliiiides.

Prairie Girl or Petit Thuet -- buying treat for friend

Thanks all. I ended up buying a chocolate cupcake with vanilla bean icing from PG. Wow, what a line-up! I didn't get one for myself, so I'm hoping it tastes good. I also went to Thuet but their desserts didn't seem right for this particular occasion.
PG has made itself a nice little niche in the business district.

Prairie Girl or Petit Thuet -- buying treat for friend

I want to pick up a small thank-you gift. A gourmet cupcake or treat would be perfect. Best place to go near King and Yonge?

Prairie Girl Bakery

Devil's advocate here-- I had a peek at their website. The cupcakes don't seem particularly out of the ordinary. In fact, they seem like half cupcake, half-icing (i.e. mostly sugar). Do they taste better than homemade?

Cheap, quick meal right now?

It's almost 4 p.m. and I want to grab a tasty treat. I have time to go anywhere downtown. I don't want the usual cheap sushi or shawarma places. What do you suggest?

CREAM PUFFS ANYONE?

Wanted to revive this thread . I just had my first taste of a Greek cream puff called kok or coke. It's cream/custard inside two cake layers, topped with chocolate glaze. It looks like a doughnut. Really enjoyed it. Not terribly sweet, quite light but still desserty. It would go great with a cup of coffee. I got mine at Athena Bakery on the Danforth. Mini-ones go for a buck, a large goes for $1.95. I had a mini.

best Chinese on Gerrard East (old chinatown)?

I used to go get quick take-out then realized I didn't find the food very tasty. I prefer ordering from the restaurants on Broadview like Grand or Pearl Court. Simon's Wok has decent food but limited range since they don't use onions, garlic or real meat.

Crispier Crouton -- how did you do the sumo wrestler? Please describe. I wouldn't mind making cookies like that.

Inexpensive AYCE buffets downtown

You might consider Le Commensal. It's a vegetarian buffet. It's not AYCE however there is a coupon offer on their website -- $10 off a meal for two people.
