something worth eating in Olney/Columbia?
Try Taste Mezze in Olney. It can be loud but in my experience the food has been really tasty!

dress code North Pond/Graham Elliott?
I am coming to Chicago this weekend with a friend and we have reservations at North Pond and Graham Elliott. What is appropriate attire? Are dark jeans/dressy tops ok?
Memorial Day girls weekend in Chicago
We are staying about 5 blocks from Michigan ave. on Huron between N. Clark and N. La Salle. Chicago has such a great restaurant scene it is definitely overwhelming putting together a weekend of meals.
I was thinking of suggesting one night (or lunch) Frontera Grille (I love Rick Bayless' cookbook and Topolobampo is a little out of our price range). and one night either Blackbird or Avec (though I am concerned about the wait)? We thought sola's menu looked great also, but I haven't found any recent reviews. One of our dinners is super early because sunday night we are going to see Second City. Is there anything by the theatre?
pizza will absolutely be one of our lunches.
Nsxtasy thank you so much for such a detailed response!
Memorial Day girls weekend in Chicago
HI Chicago-hounds. I am coming up to Chicago for Memorial day and would LOVE some input. As the most concerned about our meals, I have been put in charge of putting together options for approval.
Now the tricky part- my dining companion does not eat beef or pork so I am looking for places with plenty of seafood options. We are looking for friday dinner, saturday/sunday lunch and dinner and maybe a monday breakfast. We are staying off Michigan but willing to travel for good food.
I've looked at menus for avec, north pond, rick bayless' places, sola, blackbird and a million others. If you could help me narrow the list I'd be most appreciative. We'll want to stay in the $20-$30 entree range for dinner and spend a bit less at lunch. Also a brunch suggestion for sunday would be great, as well as bakeries, snack shops that are not to be missed.
Thank you all. Neither of us have visited your city before and we are so excited to come check it out.
Rockville Farmers Market?
I go to both Rockville and Dupont very frequently. In Rockville you'll find all the basics that you likely want (in season)- melons, peaches, cherries corn etc. You won't find the variety of other additional things you'll find at Dupont from the more specialty vendors. I can only speak for saturday but I have gotten fabulous produce in Rockville, for a little less than the cost at Dupont.
one night in dallas
I'm staying by Northpark mall but have a rental car so anywhere within half an hour is fair game. I'm looking for a nice place to take mom and new boyfriend- so something that feels nice and somewhat formal but its on me so not too expensive. the only "not" would be mexican, since thats the rehearsal lunch earlier in the day. I appreciate any suggestions you all have.
one night in dallas
I am coming to dallas for a wedding and have just this saturday night free for a dinner out. I'd love some recommendations. I am looking for $15-$20 entrees. Some amazing hole in the wall would be great. thanks all!
Fancy Cakes by Leslie (Bethesda)
I live in Bethesda, so I can't say I've tried Patisserie Poupon. next time I get to georgetown I'll have to do a taste test.
Fancy Cakes by Leslie (Bethesda)
I haven't tried the cupcakes but I adore the macaroons at Fancy Cakes by Leslie.
Wagamama
I admit I am kind of crazed but I was curious, so I emailed Wagamama a while back. They confirmed they will not open until May 2010.
TC Casey's Take On Finale and Carla
Lacademie has two campuses. the original bethesda campus now houses the recreational school (a huge variety of classes for home cooks) and the professional program which is based in gaithersburg (and some rec classes are out there too). They are only 15 minutes away from each other tops.
The professional program is french and very classical. for what its worth- I've seen a ranking that put it in the top 10 culinary programs nation wide.
Bridal shower venue in Bethesda/Rockville
I second Black Market. And- that new restaurant is opening (sometime soon?) on Bethesda Row- Redwood, by the owners of Sonoma.
Bridal shower venue in Bethesda/Rockville
Its been a while- but I remember hearing great thigns about Moasaic Cuisine and Cafe in Rockville. No idea if they have a private room though..
Austin Grill sold :-(
Has anyone been to the Austin Grill in Bethesda lately? a friend suggested it, but I haven't been in years. How is it? or should we go elsewhere.
Burger Joint in Bethesda
I went last night. I had a really great burger and fries. The burger is great quality meat and the buns were fantastic. They have the buns delivered daily so they are really fresh- and someone behind the counter was slicing them fresh.
The fries were outstanding. real thick cut belgian style fries. I thought they were fantastic.
Go check it out- a great addition to bethesda.
Cake in Bethesda
I've only had their cupcakes- but really enjoyed Just Cakes on Rugby Ave.

Best Sushi in Bethesda
I agree with the other posters. Tako Grill seems to have the freshest fish. hinata is a steal for takeout- and great quality- but closes at 7.
Nice Dinner, Bethesda area
I second O'Donnells. Its not that far from Bethesda tolerant of that crowd.
need quiet bar for 20 people in NW or Bethesda
I've taken huge crowds to the Saphire Cafe in Bethesda- we've always had lots of room and its been very quiet (except us..)

Best sandwich I ever invented
my favorite is a take on one I had at a shop in nyc-
good wheat bread, turkey (not deli turkey, real roasted turkey), sliced green apple, brie and homemade cranberry sauce. amazing. great after thanksgiving.
good carryout in Bethesda?
North China! very balanced sauces, not standard carryout. and everytime I've gotten delivery its been hot and not overcooked. Can't beat that.
Have tons of cooked Shrimp, what to do?
I don't know if its available where you are- but I like to mix mayo and a lot of old bay seasoning with a touch of lemon juice, then add the shrimp. its a maryland blend, but I got it in syracuse during college so maybe its available near you.
Where are the Apples?
I got some great ones in Dupont. but another source might be Wegmans. I think they source well from their central/western new york roots.
South Street Steaks is a Comin' to Downtown Bethesda
I second the call for D'Allessandro's!

Lilit Cafe in Bethesda has great gelato. They make it on the premisis.
