Nido milk powder in Toronto?

In case anyone else is looking for Nido milk powder, I randomly found it at Albion and Islington in a convinience store between Roti Roti and Drupati's. They even have a huge can if anyone wants it.

The best of Markham and Richmond Hill

My Richmond Hill favs are:

MI-NE Sushi - on Yonge, north of Elgin - always have a good experience here and leave happy : )

Sweet Basil - on Bayview near Elgin (Note: lunch ONLY...good lunch specials and for some reason the food is better at lunchtime? Never enjoyed dinner there...)

South China Food - in a little plaza at Yonge and 16th, behind the Country Style donuts. Tiny place with only 1 table, so takeout or delivery is the way to go. The people who run the place are super nice. I love their veggie pad thai and I always get it spicy.

Hannah's Shawarma - Bathurst and Rutherford - my husband loves the chicken shawarma pita there...I don't enjoy their falafel as much as the one at Sababa but a lot of people love it because of the size and the toppings.

Will post again if I think of more!

South Street Burger Co. ?

I have also been to the Eglinton and Laird location a couple of times. I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian and the veggie burger at South St. is really good (I also like the Harvey's veggie burger but it depends on what you're in the mood for). I personally don't get the veggie burger on a whole wheat bun because as a vegetarian everything else I eat is on the healthy scale so this is a "splurge" and I think it tastes better on a white bun. I love that South St., has different kinds of cheeses to choose from too which is cool.

veg poutine in toronto

Great info - thanks all...I have always wanted to try a good veggie poutine but didn't know where to start. Utopia will be my first destination for sure.

Diners, drive-ins and dives

Try the Fry Basket which is on Yonge Street, north of Steeles on the East side. My hubby and his friends have been going there for about 10 years now and now I'm allowed to go too LOL. They have great all day breakfasts (I really like the pancakes and the omlettes) and don't forget to say hello to the cute little chef lady, Sandy : ) By the way, they also have really tasy rye bread...wish I knew what brand it was.

OMG - New California Sandwiches location coming to Richmond Hill

I pretty much freaked out in my car the other day when I saw a sign that said that a new California Sandwiches location was opening up in Richmond Hill *swoon*

It's going to be on Yonge, north of Elgin Mills beside one of my other favs, MI-NE Sushi. The space used to be owned by an Italian hot table place that was okay but really couldn't compete.

I think Cali Sandwiches will do well there...a bit of an odd space but a good area to be in...

Good pho in the scarborough or east end...

We love the Pho 88 in the Warden/Steeles area (325 Bamburgh Circle). We have been going there for years...hubby likes the Pho Satay and the owner hooks me up with a vegetarian broth version with bok choy, deep fried tofu and fresh rice noodles...the fresh rice noodles are key!

Has anyone been to Watermark Irish Pub?

Has anyone been to Watermark Irish Pub lately?

A friend of mine wants to plan a group event there, with an expected 50 or so people to attend. Wondering how the food/service is at Watermark and if my Chow friends would recommend it.

Can anyone tell me where in Toronto to get back bacon on a bun (not peameal)?

I just had a colleague asking about Wiltshire Bacon - so I see above that I can get it at Summerhill Market...any other places to get it in Toronto?

Family restaurant in Toronto with good food where they'll sing my 3 year old Happy Birthday?

If you are willing to drive up, check out Frankie Tomatto's on Woodbine in Markham. It's an AYCE Italian style buffet....there is something to eat for everyone there...lots of selection. You pay $6.99 for the bday package but you get a great happy birthday singalong from the staff, a balloon, a piece of cake with a candle and the child gets to spin a big wheel and win a prize (everyone wins something). My nephews love it and always want to go there for their birthdays.

Chako at Hwy 7 & 404 area?

Has anyone been to Chako at Hwy 7 and 404 lately? Was thinking of going there for dinner but couldn't find many thoughts on the place on Chow. Would appreciate hearing from anyone on this place.

Side question - has anyone tried their bento boxes?

Dufferin/Rutherford Rd. Restos?

Lots of places (by the way, Dante's is hugely overpriced...also not sure why your friend loves it so much).

A few great places I recommend:

MINE Sushi in Richmond Hill - Yonge St north of Elgin

Hannah's - Bathurst and Rutherford (not in the Sobey's plaza, the plaza on the other side of the street)

Sweet Basil (Pan Asian food) - Bayview and Elgin - their lunch specials are the best, as you get a lot for approx. $8 and the food is great. Haven't enjoyed dinner as much though, i think they have a different chef on the evening shift?

Cora's - Yonge and Elgin area - for breakfast food...some Chowhounders may not like Cora's but I think this location does a great job...I go there regularly with colleagues and no one has complained.

Japanese - Hockey Sushi

I have not heard good things about Hockey Sushi. If you want good non-AYCE sushi in the area, visit MINE Sushi in Richmond Hill. Stay away from Hockey Sushi!

Veggie Burgers

I used to love the Lick's burgers but gave them up as I felt that the quality in the resto had gone downhill. Now that you're all saying that they are good (again?) I'll give them another shot. I bought the Veggie Patch Portobella Garlic burgers yesterday from Sobey's and cooked them up on the stove...pretty good and my carnivore hubby liked them too. Check them out (they are on sale for $4.99 this week at Sobey's! I love me a good sale).

Anyone know anything about Liberty Noodle?

I've been to a Wagamama in Cork, Ireland...I agree that the concept was pretty good but we found that the food lacked the deep flavours that I think Torontonians would want to see in that style of food. I'm absolutely looking forward to Liberty Noodle opening up though and will definitely check it out.

Good places that deliever to Thornhill

I live in Richmond Hill and we often order in from Choice of the Orient (Yonge and Weldrick). Great chinese food and you get fortune cookies too = ) I'm pretty sure they would deliver to Bayview and Lauraleaf.

Truffles is Closing!

My husband and I had dinner there for my birthday a few months ago and we had an amazing time...dinner was fantastic, the service was incredible and the desserts.....oh the desserts...they were insanely good (there were sighs and moans involved). What a shame and yes I agree, a hotel of the calibre of the Four Seasons MUST have a great restaurant in it. I wonder what they will do with the space?

Best tasting menu for vegetarians?

Depending on the number of courses in the meal, tasting menus can take a couple of hours to go through. I believe the veggie menu at George has about 5-6 courses so you're looking at about 2 hours I think....if you want to be out of there in an hour, then you should lower the number of courses you are eating...that's just my opinon though. I have been meaning to go to George...please post back and let us know how it goes!

Caterers for Steam Whistle...Experiences?

Daniel et Daniel is amazing - if you have any vegetarian guests they will certainly feel taken care of by these guys. I went to a work event catered by them and I was so blown away by the vegetarian food that I sent them a thank you note - the apps were innovative and spot on. They had take out chinese boxes with veggie chow mein, freshly grilled sandwiches on cranberry bread with brie and pear in them, pissaladiere, pear and chevre spring rolls with mango chutney (swoon!) and on and on....!!!

economical places to eat niagara region?

I just came back from a weekend trip in that area. I recommend Antica Pizzeria on Victoria Avenue (recommended by a fellow Chowhounder). Pizza was really tasty and I'm sure you can walk out of there with a stuffed and happy family for a decent price.

Nido milk powder in Toronto?

Does anyone know where I can buy Nido milk powder in Toronto (actually more preferably, in Thornhill/Richmond Hill area)?

I heard it could be available in Hispanic or Indian stores but if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be great.

Diners/Cafeterias in Richmond Hill

I will have to try Three Coins after reading so much about this place. I work up the street from it and a few of my colleagues have looked at me like I have lost my mind when I suggested that we visit Three Coins - they think it's nasty in there haha.
Thanks for the suggestion - will try to convince someone to come with me!

Afternoon tea for a bridal shower - help!

Thanks everyone for the info - I really appreciate it. Will call in to some of the places mentioned above for sure.

Unfortunately, I will have to pass on Moroco Chocolat - went there for tea a few months ago and was left with a bad taste in my mouth. They took my friend's credit card for the booking (totally acceptable) and when I got there I was a bit full from breakfast still and asked about ordering only the "cream tea" on the menu, instead of the full tea. The response I got was basically "Since you booked for afternoon tea, you now cannot have the cream tea. All of the food has already been prepared for you". Huh? Seriously? No one EVER told us that when we booked.

Oh well, I let it go and figured fine, I will have a relaxing afternoon of great tea with my friends...no worries...will find room in my tummy for all the goodies. Lo and behold, the tea tray arrives with either 1 or 2 only of some of the pastry items (there were 3 of us in total). Knowing we were spending a fair bit of money, I asked our server why they would do that and that we deserved to all be able to try each pastry. She came back with an extra plate of some of the missing items. We were not really impressed with the pastries at all. Overall, the food was okay, the hot chocolate was really tasty, but the service was lacking in general. Look, I understand that maybe when I went there, they had just opened and they were still "new". However, I believe that is the time when you need to try the hardest to please your customers as you will want them to come back again. I really wanted to like Moroco Chocolate but I really don't think we will be going back there - I hope the rest of you had better luck there!

Afternoon tea for a bridal shower - help!

Looking for a place to hold an afternoon tea for a bridal shower, that won't be too expensive in terms of cost per person.

I am currently checking in with the King Eddy (approx. $27 per person) and the Old Mill (approx. $20 per person). Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Has anyone had any experiences good or bad that they could share? We are expecting maybe 10 to 15 people. Could use the help of my fellow Chowhounders for more info!

Help - forced to eat at Spring Rolls! Is there ANYTHING decent there?

I second the motion to eat before you leave and have appetizers. Spring Rolls has been on an extreme downward spiral for some time (or maybe I remember it being decent before because my palate hadn't developed yet??). In any case, you will fit right in by ordering apps and also save your money for a better meal elsewhere!

Restaurant recos in Niagara Falls?

Thanks Connoisseur! We are staying at a hotel nearby, so we will definitely check Antica out!

Restaurant recos in Niagara Falls?

Going to Niagara Falls this weekend with a bunch of girlfriends. Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations for the area? We are basically looking for places for lunches and dinners that cost effective if possible!

There are 2 vegetarians in the group, so hopefully any suggestions would cover the veggies off too!

We're staying near Clifton Hill but we also have access to a car.

Thanks!

Good CHEAP delivery food in Richmond Hill?

I know that you don't want to hear about more Chinese food in Richmond Hill but I really like delivery from Choice of the Orient... = ) I live and work in Richmond Hill...will ask around and post back!

New Izakaya joint @ Yonge & Eg

I pray that they don't destroy the food like that awful place that used to be downtown! = )

Has anyone visited Rosewater Supper Club lately?

Yes, I would have the use the gift cert for dinner. I'm just concerned about having to spend a huge amount of money just to use it...will have to decide quickly though! Thanks for the tip!
