Fresh or frozen currants in Toronto
Yummy Market (4400 Dufferin Street, South of Finch) has a good selection that comes from Lithuania and other Baltic Countries.
Chowhound in Buffalo - what not to miss
Thank you, I will try there. Vigo has some products that compete with Goya, but Vigo's paella is the one I'm after.

Any new info in 2011 on possible Latin American grocery availability?
Venezuelan Hallacas In Toronto
Are hallacas similar to tamales? If you'll settle for tamales, I'd recommend Columbus Bakery. Most tamales available around town will be home-made, or at least not commercially made.

Also there are a lot of small vendors at the Latin plaza/mall near Finch and Weston. There is a thread here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/353358. There might be a Venezuelan one.
Good luck finding them!
Where to go for GOOD SOUP
It is very good and detailed. The preparation is demanding. That's why I leave pho to the experts in restaurant kitchens - don't think I'll try it at home.
Raccoon in the GTA?
Maybe the 'hounders in this thread will have some info: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/275829

What has happened to Whole Foods in Yorkville?
I don't know if it's time to give up, or anything like that. Also the comments about meats, fish, prepared food are unfortunate. But in the case of tired produce, isn't the problem that they stock a lot more than they sell, so it ends up looking second-best? They did have great presentation of their produce – ends out, stacked high, lots of light – and it's obvious that Loblaw had to copy them on this.
The problem is, if you stock more than you sell, you'll end up with second-rate freshness.
Avenue & Lawrence update.
A few weeks ago the building permit in the window said Tim Hortons on it. We shall see ...

Another Indian restaurant has just opened at #1921 - Bombay Hut (/Bistro?)
Also Honey's Beestro is closed again.
And I think a Tim Hortons is about to open next to Satay on the Road.
Anyone know where I can get Arracacha (also known as mandioquinha in Brazil)
The Keele & Lawrence store (Marketino) has moved to 2801 Keele. Meanwhile I found the frozen arracacha at Julio's Quality Meat (2294 Keele Street). The brand is Canoa, and it was in the freezer at the back. I plan to use it in a soup with chicken and green plantains. I have recommended Julio's elsewhere on the board for the meat and especially the sausages. While I'm at it I'll mention these nearby chowfinds:
El Ranchero (2290 Keele Street) in the same plaza makes excellent lechona.
Churrasqueira Estrela (2275 Keele Street) – a hard-working team that cooks over charcoal.

Anyone know where I can get Arracacha (also known as mandioquinha in Brazil)
I am looking for arracacha too. I'd use it as the main ingredient in a Colombian soup recipe. Any help appreciated.
Passion-Fruit Juice
They have it at Marketino, 2394 Keele at Lawrence West. The brand is Canoa, and it comes from Colombia. Super-delicious! Good luck with your recipe.
Blood Sausage / Black Pudding in Toronto?
I imagine you are after the English version and here I am with a suggestion for morcilla, the South American version.
El Emporio de la Carne
2294 Keele Street
There's other good chow in that area.
Empanada dough
I'm getting back to you with that name:

Deep fried pumpkin cake
With all the pie pumpkins in stores now it'd be good to try making up a recipe for this at home ... Is the jelly centre candied or savoury?
Avenue & Lawrence update.
They never serve chicken? Bravi! Hooray for them. It reminds me of a soundbite of Vittorio's: he didn't serve chicken because there were no good chickens to serve. He said that about 25 years ago when his osteria was on Yonge near Blythwood. Maybe the same decision prevails at LC. I admire the nerve. A lot of chicken on the market is second-rate, and when you go out, shouldn't your food be first-rate?
best 'to go' coffee Yonge and Gerrard area?
Golden Mint Coffee Co
439A Yonge Street. It's on the east side just south of College, a long block north of Gerrard. They make decent coffees out of one of those big copper machines with the figure of a bird on top (someone probably knows what machine that is).
Also there's a down-the-stairs sandwich/snack shop on the north side of Gerrard, just east of Church. It's a Ryerson student place. They make good Italian style coffee from a good machine too. Don't have the name I'm afraid!
Best cup of coffee at Yonge and Dundas?
1. Try Cafe d'Oro. It's a hole in the wall on the south side of Dundas Square and it's miles ahead of those vendors in the AoB.
2. B Espresso Bar is now in the ground floor of the Bond Place Hotel. That's on the south side of Dundas just 3 blocks east of Yonge. It's Illy coffee.
Cheers.
Empanada dough
The other day I saw some of the frozen kind. This was at the latin grocer at Lawrence and Keele, SW corner. Sorry I don't have the name of the place. In fact I didn't even see if they were flour or corn based. Flour probably.
Source for Vigo brand PAELLA
Thanks - that was a good prompt to check out H.F. on Dufferin. While I struck out on the paella there I certainly saw what you meant about selection, and I came home with some treasures.
