What is your favorite new Monmouth County Discovery?

I totally disagree with you on Valentino's. I was there tonite and my family and I had an amazingly delicious dinner. The three of us all had three different dishes, (Veal Parm, Chicken Marsala and Veal Francaise), and I have to tell you that each one of them was out of this world. Maybe you should go back and try it again since it has been almost a year. The service was excellent all around and I will totally be back there with friends and family. You can't judge a book by its cover.

Best Down & Dirty Lobster in CNJ?

OK- - I need some help here. I'm looking for two things:

1) Best lobster in CNJ - -period. Can also be anywhere in SNJ if you wish. You know, a place where you can get inexpensive, delicious lobster?

2) Best loster in the LBI area? Same type of restaurant -- just good lobster - nothing fancy. For example, I love Pinky's in LBI -- there's a good example of "down and dirty" inexpensive lobster.

Let me know what your favorites are! I'm on a mission to find some good lobster! Thanks.

Favorite resturant in Highlands/Atlantic Highlands?

I'm a big Copper Canyon fan - always have a good time there and the waitstaff is very friendly and always provides good service. Julia's -- went there a couple of months ago - - and the meal wasn't very memorable - -i can't even tell you what I ordered!! I love one thing at Bahr's -- their Lobster Bisque in a bread bowl. Everything else I think is over-priced. Not a big fan of Windandsea or Doris and Eds. So - basically, it's Copper Canyon for me :) Tell me more about Neil's. It sounds like you love it. I will have to check it out.

What if you don't like the food?

Nalega,

With the food problem that you had with your meal, I'm thinking that the best thing you could do is to tell us where this place is so at least those that read this board know what you thought about the place and think twice before we go there.

To me, I think that would be the thing to do if you just don't like the food in a restaurant. Warn others!

Matzah Brie

Try putting the jam/jelly in the batter and then cooking it up! It works really nicely. I usually add a little sugar with it too. I just made some today with raspberry preserves and i also added glazed pecans. Yum!

Theater District Late Lunch

I was also at Scarlotto recently and had an amazing post-theater meal. I can't remember exactly the type of veal that I ordered -- I think it was a veal shank with risotto- - but OMG, it was scrumptious! And there was so much of it, I took a nice sized doggie bag home and lovely every forkfull of it again. I wish I had room to have dessert. Next time :)

trader joes type stores in middlesex county?

Westfield is proably the closest. What I do, is try to budget some time when I'm driving down the Parkway to make a special visit to TJ's. Not quite sure why they don't open one around these parts already!

First time post - Bringing Mom to NYC

Wow, RGR, you really know your stuff! I also love Blue Water Grill and I bet that would be a great place to take Mom on her 75th or just about anyone. I've never had a bad meal there, and now you're reminding me that I need to go back.

Westlake chinese on rt 34 keeps getting better

Oh, I'll chime in for sure, don't you worry. I can't believe it took me this long to find this web site/message board! This is going to be my new hobby !! Enjoy your weekend and I'm looking forward to hearing more about your restaurant finds. You give great, honest reviews from what I have seen.

Westlake chinese on rt 34 keeps getting better

With all the chatter on this board about West Lake, I had to try it myself. Since I am always commuting out of the Matawan train station, I figured, OK - -let me have the family meet me there! Well, the restaurant is quite unassuming -- especially when you arrive at night at the lovely strip mall parking lot.

WELL --- being new to this board -- i have to say --- YOU GUYS ROCK! This place is like finding a needle in a haystack! Everyone was so nice at West Lake -- friendly and pleasant and couldn't do enough for us.

The wonton soup was terrific --- really delicious - - with the crunchy lettuce and obviously hand made wontons. Yum! I had a spring roll too -- that was mighty fine with fresh ingredients inside.

Since we were with our 12 yr old son, we had to order something on the simple side -- and he got the diced chicken & cashews -- - which came out so nicely presented with peas, cutely decorated carrots, celery, fresh mushrooms, and even pieces of ginger throughout. Amazly they made a boring dish quite scrumptious. Also had the prawns and honey walnuts -- that was really good -- nicely presented and the walnuts were like crack -- -full of flavor and i was trying to figure out how they made them - they were really good. The house fried rice was very good - but at this point - we had so much food -- we just took tons of leftovers home.

The restaurant was really surprisingly good. Hey, i'm so glad i found this board! You guys are awesome! I can't wait to try more new places! I highly recommend it if you like chinese -- i felt like i was in Chinatown and saved $$$ on gas / parking !

Definitely go! You'll love it. I surely will be back!

Well, if you're looking for delicious and reasonably priced Mexican, I can suggest, Maryann's. Great value and they also have amazing margaritas! I've never had a bad meal there.

Funky Salad Recipe??

Have you ever tried adding pomegranate to your salads? It really gives great texture and a neat taste. Definitely something different. I add all sorts of different things to my salads -- roasted or candied nuts/walnuts, starfruits, anything exotic and tasty.

Go to Delicious Orchards or a great produce place and just walk down the aisles and see what you can find....especially different colored fruits, nuts, etc. Have fun! It's a salad.

Private Business Dinner - Midtown

Park Avenue Cafe always has done a great job for us - they have a private room - or you can reserve a special area of the restaurant if you have enough time. They are a class act there. I have never had a bad meal and your guests will really feel special. I had my 40th bday there. And of all people - who was there to wish me a happy birthday? Emeril! So, if it's good enough for Emeril, it's good enough for me! :) I might be a little over budget for you - but you can discuss that with the restaurant planner if you are interested.

Need Dinner Help in Mid-town for a picky 6 and 8 year old.

Wow, this looks like a great place - wonder why I have never heard of it? Now I feel like I've been living in a box - or maybe hibernating. How long has it been around? Great place / location - especially for pre/post theater too. What's your favorite thing on the menu?

Red Bank, NJ area - any suggestions for great chow?

Raven and the Peach in Fair Haven, Salt Creek Grille in Rumson are nicer places. Depends on how much you want to spend. What type of food are you looking for? Red Bank has such a variety of restaurants.
