barstow ?
hello, a quick post in hopes that someone knows of a decent restaurant for dinner in barstow? casual or semi-casual is fine, open to different types of cuisine---i just have to be there tonight and hope to avoid any of the mass produced chains, i.e. sizzler, etc.
Paris Baguette on Western Avenue -- a delicious bakery!
do they have cakes here, or just smaller-sized pastries? in desperate need of finding a delicious birthday cake in k-town area.
birthday lunch in little tokyo
i'm taking my mom out to lunch for her birthday in little tokyo--any suggestions? i'm open to sushi/sashimi, or noodles, or grill-type places--pretty much anything asian, and not necessarily japanese. i have heard good things about izayoi--maybe we'll go there?
best cafe` in or around union square?
i'm going to be spending some time in SF this weekend--anyone have suggestions for a great coffee/pastry shop/bakery in or near union square? thanks!
baking pies a day ahead?
thank you everyone for the advice! i will bake the pumpkin, and perhaps assemble the apple for baking the next day; i'm in Los Angeles, and it has been hot(high 80's!) these past couple days, so refrigeration might be better than leaving it out on the counter for me.
baking pies a day ahead?
Last year, I baked 2 pies for our family's thanksgiving feast, and am planning to do the same again. However, I baked them on the day of last year, and am debating whether or not to bake them a day in advance, to free up time for other things on the day of.
but if i bake the pies in advance (pumpkin, and apple) do they keep all right in the fridge? will the crust stay the same texture? i guess i am afraid of possible sogginess that might set in from them sitting in the fridge for a day. does this happen?
long weekend in SF--suggestions?
thank you all for the great suggestions! my list of SF eateries to visit is growing! :)
Favorite Pasta Dish
veal (shank? maybe) agnolotti at angelini osteria. if you see this on the menu there, you must order it! yum. little pasta packets of heaven. their lasagna is also amazing. ooh and their tagliolini al limone.. mmm.
Your favorite asian soup or noodle soup
i third the suggestion for korean soon doo boo.. i mean soon tofu! hmmm, meowmixx, i've never been to these locations. will have to try them when i get my next craving! olivexjina, you may also want to try bcd tofu house, they have 2 locations in koreatown, both with parking lots. i like the one on wilshire at kingsley.
Mozza's "Topping-To-Crust-To- Ratio" Is Off
hmm.. so maybe i should be grateful that i haven't yet made a visit to mozza? our office has been trying to get out there, but no luck during reasonable mealtimes thus far. perhaps once we get past the busy signal and 4 PM availability, the pizza will have improved. i can't wait to try it for myself!
dinner near ahmanson theater
we went to koshiji! i had found it through another chowhound thread. enjoyed our meal, but i live on the westside and definitely prefer nanbankan in terms of value and ambience.
Dr. Bob's Scharffen Berger Works Ice Cream...
yumm!..wow i have never tried dr. bob's ice cream, but after reading these posts i just might have to pay a visit to bristol farms!! is it sold in other stores as well? that strawberry flavor sounds amazing.
long weekend in SF--suggestions?
Lori SF, we are driving up from Los Angeles.
Thank you for the wonderful list of suggestions--we may need to venture out of Union Square for breakfast! and i didn't realize cowgirl creamery was nearby! now i must try to make a stopover in Point Reyes Station for some cheese! yum..
i have never heard of Mankas--the web site certainly does make it look spectacular!--if i am not able to make it there this trip, i will definitely file it away in my brain for future trips to northern california!
long weekend in SF--suggestions?
my boyfriend and i will be taking a much-deserved, albeit brief, vacation in SF just after new years' in celebration of his return from a yr-long army tour overseas. i haven't been to the SF Bay since college, and would love suggestions for noteworthy places to eat--anywhere from hole-in-the-walls on up! i know there are too many to try in a weekend, but i'd love to hear ideas from locals!
already on my list are zuni cafe, as well as kiss sushi, and of course a stop at the ferry market plaza. we are driving, so any ideas for stops along the way are welcome as well. ooh and are there any cafes serving amazing coffee/breakfast in or around Union Square? thanks!
dinner near ahmanson theater
I'm going to the taper tomorrow, and trying to think of a place to eat as well! the first thing that comes to my mind downtown is always ciudad, if you don't mind eating outside the immediate theater area--great atmosphere, delicious Latin foods. Tomorrow, though, i might want to try something in Little Tokyo. anybody know of any good Japanese grill places on that side of town?
