market watch: Jackson Heights

You can get lamb from Dines Farms at Farm Spot, Thursdays from 4-8 at St. Mark's church on 82nd. All his meat is excellent. You may want to order ahead, as he sometimes runs out of items.

Corona Heights Pork Store

Woodside Al solved the mystery. It was the Corona Pork Store. They had some dried sausages and deli meats... nothing out of the ordinary. The window display had bread and some Boars Head posters.
Sorry everyone!

Corona Heights Pork Store

We did stop in, but it looked pretty mediocre, so I was assuming it was under different ownership. But perhaps it's the other one abu applesauce is refering to below.

Corona Heights Pork Store

Anyone??

Corona Heights Pork Store

On the way to Lemon Ice King today I noticed that the Pork Store was open.
I had heard that it had closed. Does anyone know is it reopened under new ownership?
I was never there before it closed. What's good there these days?
What about Leo's?

New bakery in Jackson Heights?

I found their pastries to be very good. And they make by far the best cappucino I have found in the neighborhood.

All I know is that there are Poppy seeds in it its roll like fashion help!

The Hungarian version, which I am familliar with, is called Beigli. There is also a version with nuts. I have seen at at Gourmet Fantasy Foods in Jackson Heights and at places like Fairway and other upscale supermarkets, although they don't compare to the home-made kind my relatives make.
Here is a link to a recipe with some photos. (I can't vouch for the recipe, though). Let us know if you find a good one.

Dines Farms meats and poultry question

You don't have to order ahead to purchase meat from the truck and you don't have to be a member of the CSA to buy meat from them either. During the Farm Spot season (starts at the end of May) they are at St. Mark's Church from 4-8.

Indian buffet in Jackson Heights?

Their lamb chop appetizer is really amazing. I know this place gets a bad rap, but I think the food there is good.

Dosa Diner

Has anyone been back since the re-opened? Is the menu still the same?

Ranger Texas BBQ

Would it be inapropriate to take a 4-year-old there on a Thursday night? Meaning would it be like taking a kid to an old man bar? I'm dying to try it!

New French-Japanese fusion in LIC/Astoria?

If that's the same as JJ's Grand Tofu: NY Magazine awarded them Best Dumplings in their curent Best of New York issue:
JJ’s Grand Tofu
37-05 31st St., Astoria; 718-626-2425
In Manhattan, the humble dumpling, like so many other citified simple things, has gotten grand. Jean-Georges started it all, puffing his up with foie gras at 66. Now, at Buddakan, gussied-up dumplings filled with edamame primp and preen in a broth of Sauternes. But just when the dumpling trumpery threatens to get out of hand, JJ’s Grand Tofu, a tiny Japanese fusion outpost on an emerging avenue in Astoria, offers an edamame pot sticker that’s sophisticated but not stuffy. The pot stickers ($5.95 for four) come simply steamed, sauced with squiggles of reduced cream and a glaucous slick of wasabi oil, the bracing rush of the latter cutting through the former’s richness. And if your edamame exposure has been limited to squeezing the peas singly, like rosary beads, from salted pods, you may be surprised at what a meaty purée they yield. Leave it to the outer boroughs to prove that fusion needn’t be froufrou.

Is there any good food by the ABC outlet in the Bronx?

Yes, I have some great options for my carpet returns this weekend! Thanks!

Any good Chinese delivery to Jackson Heights?

I just had a terrible dinner from Great Wealth in Elmhurst and I need a new delivery place. I'll take authentic or even good skank Chinese.

what is worth going to in brooklyn & is also child friendly?

I would reccomend Diner in Williamsburg. I have taken my toddler there on many occasions. It's laid back and noisy enough that kids are fine. It's in an original dining car; hip atmosphere. It has a modern take on comfort/diner food. They always have fresh, seasonal specials. Their hangar steak with garlic mashed potatos is so good my husband has eaten two on them in one sitting!
