Aiea - Ice Palace
Ala Moana - City Cafe on Makaloa
both worth a visit
Cafe Hawaii in Spanaway
Onolicious Bruddah! My family was passing through and decided to stop. Lau lau, Kahlua Pork and Oxtail Soup were just like back in the islands. Plate lunch style.
Give it a try.

We like the shrimp roll, pork bun and fried rice vermicelli especially. A few dried shrimp in the rice vermicelli would make it even better. Though the filling of the Ba Wan/ Rou yuan (meat in sticky rice) could have been a little more generous, the shell a little thinner, it was tasty. The oyster fry was a little on the sweet side and could have been a little firmer. The Rou geng mien could have used a little more rou geng but was also tasty.
The above are considered some nuances that did not detract from the experience.
Overall, a very delightful place to eat that brought back some good memories. I closed my eyes and imagined myself eating under a canopy on a metal stool at a small round table with the bare light bulbs with the hustle of the night market around me. I was hoping to swig some Taiwan beer and get some stinky tofu and bamboo wrapped sticky rice. Made me want to get some mung bean shave ice to wrap things up and maybe some mango milk.
I would like to try the chicken rice (Chiayi) and cuttlefish geng next time. We will be back.

My wife (Taiwanese born) and I (ABC, Taiwanese parents) went to Facing East last night with the kids. A culinary delight bringing back the comforts of the old country. We heard other Taiwanese speaking diners at a few other tables saying "Zan!" and making their way to the kitchen to thank the chef. My young kids loved it too - looks like that Taiwanese is being passed on to the next generation.
We're anxious to try Rocking and Yea's.

Had the blackened salmon at the Red Door a few nights ago. Very delicious. Staff was lukewarm at best. Not a big fan of the layout. Will give it another go. The menu has some selections that look very enticing.
Ferdinand's - now I think that the ice cream there is some of the best I have had in a while. I'm going to have to find out about the hype about Cougar Gold.
A discovery in Sequim
If we're eating out and eating Chinese food, it's Dynasty Sequim most of the time. My kids like the handshaven noodles with beef and get it every time. We usually ask them to hold the scrambled eggs. The barley handshaven noodles with prawns in soup is excellent. No MSG. Local ingredients are used whenever they are available. Dynasty in Sequim and in PA are owned by different families. The several times my family has eaten in the PA Dynasty we have not been disappointed.
Port Townsend, Port Angeles, Washington
There is a taco truck on Carlsborg Road that I've heard good things about. Alderwood Bistro in Sequim has been delightful.
Layover at the Seattle Airport
Any one try Puck's?
Vino Volo it will be next time passing through. Never thought of Pyramid as a food place, so I'll just go for the brew.
The Hong Kong style restaurant at the Great Wall Shopping Center on West Valley Highway is within reasonable distance and worth going to if you've got some wheels.
Pullman (WA) and surounding area
I enjoyed the quality and selection of brew at the Couer D'Alene Brewhouse. Was there more for the drink than the food, so can't comment on that.
I love the smell of a bakery and will try the loaves or other baked wares at some time, but Wheatberries' portabella panini was an incompetently microwaved barely toasted disappointment - 1/2 cold 1/2 lukewarm with soggy parts to the bread and cold cheese.
I guess I don't have the palate for Thai. Keo's in Honolulu has been the best Thai that I remember, but that has been years. Suchada's was unexciting to me and being pointed to the ATM was a little surprising to me in this day and age where I haven't carried cash in my pocket for a while.
It sounds like the Red Door is one of the next stops along with Patty's. Off then to Uniontown one of these days.

The brisket at VJ's was most excellent. Returned for another iteration with the pulled pork. This is the place for BBQ lovers.
Couer D'Alene Brewhouse and Patty's Kitchen on 6th in Moscow look interesting for the next round.
Pullman (WA) and surounding area
Mike's Gyros on Main (Moscow) served up a tasty doner that went well with a pint of summer ale. Will be back. Next stop VJ's.
Seattle Happy Hours
While passing through on the ferry back to Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas, I had the opportunity to stop by Ivar's for their happy hour. Apetizers and light entrees off the bar menu were very reasonable and tasty. Since I commute on a regular basis, this will likely become a regular part of my routine.

Nectar in Moscow has an excellent wine selection. I've tried the halibut and crabcakes, both excellent. This is a place to hang out and enjoy your company. Not too stuffy.
Also in Moscow is the Food Coop deli. Have not ventured out to try the French bistro or Red Door yet.
Agreed that Sella's and Cougar Country Drive-In are quintessential college eats. Quality ingredients.
I had gone to Swilly's for a few weeks and found the food consistently good. I prefer nectar for the atmosphere.

Potstickers at New Garden (Chinese) are quite good, but the rest of the menu seems to all come with the same stock sauce. There is quite a local following as the waitress seemed to know them all by name, but none of them I saw had yellow skin or black hair. Reputed one of the better Chinese places in the area. I guess I won't eat Chinese around here again.
If you want to go island style, there is a place in Moscow called Local Grines (sp?). I'm interested in trying some of their plate lunches other than the Kahlua pig, which was on the dry side.
What's in Moscow, ID?
In nearby Pullman, I have enjoyed Swilly's so far. Been to the college hangouts Sella's for calzones and Cougar Country Drive-In for burgers and shakes. Was disappointed with Basilios. Curious about the new Thai place in Pullman and the Local Grinds in Moscow.
Sequim in October
Have lived in Sequim for the past 3 years now.
Alderwood Bistro - organic, slow food, a little heavy on the meat, would like to see more vegetarian. Well executed for these parts
Michael's - used to enjoy going there early on during our stay here, but cooking has been inconsistent
C'est si Bon - excellent service, very special family that owns it cooks with special attentiveness, never had a disappointing meal
Togas - looking forward to trying it
Petals - have always enjoyed the service and meals
Cafe Blossom - set menu by reservation only, heard is very good, have not tried. An unrushed tea and lunch experience.
We go to Dynasty in Sequim if we don't feel like cooking, but this is not Vancouver, SF or LA. Forget about any other Chinese restaurant. Will never set foot in the teriyaki place again - once is more than enough.
