Miami Caterers

Hello all,
My daughter needs to find a good yet reasonable caterer in the Miami area for her wedding. She is working on a tight budget. Any recs?????????
Thanks so much.

The Best Pork Dish in SoFla?

Frod, I really like that place. Have you tried their duck in cherry sauce? Crispy, crispy skin and very moist flesh...really good with their mashed potatoes w/ hint of nutmeg.

Good Idea! (Ideas Restaurant Coconut Grove)

Thanks for the recap. I'm salivating! I'm there.

St Augustine recs

A friend of mine claims St. Augustine is dining purgataory. We will be there Memorial weekend and need some good recommendations and hopefully prove her wrong. Any great food in the old city or beach area?

Best seafood in upper keys

We'll be going to the upper keys this weekend for an "anniversary" weekend. Who, in your opinion serves up the best seafood in a great setting? Would love to get some recommendations. Thanks!

Looking for Blood Oranges in South Florida

I believe I have seen them in Norman Brothers on SW 87th Ave....though not on a regular basis.

Great restaurants in Vero Beach

Can anyone recommend any chownish restaurants in Vero Beach? Prefer seafood, French or Italian but we are open to all suggestions/. Thanks much!

Any C'Hound Baby Boomers?

The Mc Arthur Dairy. We jotted off what we needed from their list. Also, Charles Chips. The neighbors had seltzer water and chocolate syrup delivered!

Everglades City area observations

Thanks for the info. That's superbowl weekend. The chances uf getting my hubby to go then are -0.00

When is/was the seafood festival?

Miami - Cuban or Puerto Rican criolla? Ay Mama Ines?

If you like "malanga" try the crema de malanga soup at Havana Harry's. Also the tostones are consistantly good.

Hungry Detective in Miami

I see you're getting ragged on for Islas but I for one prefer their Cuban Sandwich over Segios because of the bread. Besides, it gives me an excuse to also order their croquetas which are the best anywhere! I'm talking about the Coral Way location.

south florida nova

I don't know what part of So. Fl. you're in but if you're in the SW Miami area you can try Norman Brothers on SW 87th Ave. a few blocks south of Sunset(72nd St.).

favorite comfort food

To amopdx:
How about ajiaco(hearty root vegetable stew), bistec empanizado(breaded thin sliced sirloin steak) & "malanga" fritters? Yum!!!

favorite comfort food

Sweet and sour pot roast
Mashed potatoes w/lots of butter, cream cheese & chives
Split pea soup
Cuban chicken soup
Cuban pot roast
Warm peach pie.

Miami - Cuban or Puerto Rican criolla? Ay Mama Ines?

Ay Mama Ines is in a strip mall on Bird Rd & 117 Ave. We used to frequent it until they added a musician in the evenings & their prices shot up. The prices were not equivalent to the quality of food or service so we stopped going. I still think you can't beat Havana Harry's on LeJeune off of US1. Also Las Culebrinas on Flagler & 47th or the newer one on 27th ave in The Grove. Buen Apetito!

Coerced into Cheesecake Factory

There are a lot worse chains out there than CF. I like going for their sliders...I have them as my main meal. The corn cake appetizers are also pretty good. I don't care much for cheese cake so I never get it and I'm always too full for desert when I go there!

Of all the fast-food chains ... who makes the best ice cream shakes?

I live in Miami and we have Steak & Shake. They also have them in Tampa.
Love their white chocolate shake (seasonal).

Got Red Lobster gift card...now what?

Every time someone talks me into giving it another try I end up regretting it. Regift, regift.....

Tailgating in Miami

Sorry, but imo you can do much better than Blue Sky. Try El Palacio de los Jugos on Flagler & 57th Ave. for good "lechon" (roast pork)and great tropical fruit concoctions. If you call ahead you should not have a problem. Another suggestion is Dico Fish on SW 67th Ave & 16th St. Order their "arroz con mariscos" (seafood & yellow rice). It's quite good and will come with sweet plaitains. An order for 10 will more than serve 20.

Looking for fried alligator and the best cuban sandwitch

You can gat a good Cuban Sandwich in many places. What area will you be staying in?

My Take on Bonefish Grill

Bonefish is one of my favorite of the chains. The ones in Miami take reservations. Mussels Josephine are really good...with plenty of bread for the sauce. I did a google search and got the recipe. We made it and it came out great but it's actually cheaper to get them at Bonefish. We order the mussels as "take-out" for footbal games!

Anything remotely "chowish" in Disney World? At all?

Spoodles also has very good breakfast!

Anyone see Alton Brown on frying a turkey?

After hearing from family & friends how great fried turkey was, my husband and I purchased a fryer at BJ's. We simply hooked it up to a propane tank from our gas grill and presto! Of course we did this in the back yard. We deep fried a 10 lb. turkey in about 35-40 minutes. I can tell you guys that this was the best turkey we've ever had. I will never roast a turkey again!!!!!!!!!

Best chain restaurants?

My votes go to Bonefish, PF Changs & Outback. Also Flannigans deserves mention...the best ribs and pretty good burgers.

The very worst......OLIVE GARDEN...I would rather eat Stouffers frozen....or any frozen Italian than Olive Garden!

Miami and Ft. Lauderdale dining

For Cuban I do not recommend Versailles...the food is mediocre at best (ok if you just go for cuban sandwiches). Much better is Havana Harrys on LeJeune Rd. one block north of US 1.

Anything remotely "chowish" in Disney World? At all?

We are "Disney-holics" and have eaten just about everywhere in Disney. One of our favorites is Artist's Point at the Wilderness Lodge. Their smoked portabello soup is great. They also serve game which they do very well. The Flying Fish at the Boardwalk is very good for sea-food. Bon Apetit!

The best Hamburger in Miami Fla.

I used to have Ollieburgers for lunch at least 2-3X a week when I attended Beach High...and that was before Ollie sold to Lums. They were much better than when Lums took over! What I wouldn't give for one now! As for Royal Castle, the were scrumptious. I made my husband drive up to I-95 & 125th St. bacause I heard there was still one there. Well, when we got there (Arnolds Royal Castle) it was closed with a sign saying they will re-open soon. The building was the same square little building like all the RC's but the area is run-down and I don't think we'll check it out again.
