Pesachdik Liquor

I second the 209 gin, very good -I couldn't find kosher for passover tonic though so that was a bit of a bummer). The Zachlawi vodka was pretty decent too as was the Casa Vieja.

Rib Roast/Silver Tip... Need brunch inspiration

There is a great new bakery near my apartment so my initial thought was like a benedict, but with a slice of the good bread, thin sliced steak (any thoughts on how to season the steak?), fried or poached eggs, and that roasted poblano/tomatillo sauce sounds amazing.

That sounds great. How do you poach eggs in muffin tins? I still haven't gotten it right on the stove so any shortcut would be awesome.

Also, do you think it still works if I can't do the queso fresco or gouda? I keep kosher.

Rib Roast/Silver Tip... Need brunch inspiration

I'm having 8-10 people over for brunch on Saturday and want to make some sort of spin on steak and eggs. Anyone have any good recipes they can share?

Also going to do potatoes and sauteed greens.

And a ton of good liquor, bourbon, scotch, mimosas, bloody marys, etc.

Westchester birthday dinner

My girlfriend took me to Blue Hill in NYC for my birthday on Friday (she's a keeper) and the food was great.

I think I'm going to try to get a reservation at X20 as that seems to be a consensus. I'll let you know how it goes.

Great bar in the East or West Village

I'm a big fan of Grape and Grain and/or Against the Grain in the EV on 6th b/w B and C (sister restaurants, good wine and beer selection and very good tapas) and Croxley on B b/w 2nd and 3rd (kinda divey, great beer selection and awesome wings)

Westchester birthday dinner

Hi CHers- I'm looking for a restaurant in Westchester for my birthday dinner next Sunday. I've checked out previous posts and have Xaviars, Red Hat Bistro, and Harvest on Hudson on my list. It will be a pretty large dinner (9 people) with significant others. Food quality is paramount over atmosphere. Price is not a factor, but we would like a place that allows jeans and/or smart casual.

What can you guys tell me about those three places or any other suggestions?

Also, in looking on Blue Hill's site, it looks like they only do a 7 course tasting menu. Unfortunately some of the people in the party don't eat meat... any suggestions would be great.

Pizza place on Clinton

I just drove up Clinton today and saw a new brick oven pizza place on Clinton and Rivington. Does anyone know what it's called or what its deal is?

Thanks.

Need help with ordering at Russ and Daughters-whats your favorites???

I think you pretty much have it covered. I think their gefilte fish is great also. The whitefish/salmon salad is amazing and I think the Scottish Salmon is their best one. I agree with what someone else said before about not going under 1/4 lb., a taste is good, but 1/8 lb won't even cover a bagel.

Giants game in LES bar?

Croxley Ales is my favorite in the neighborhood on B b/w 2nd and 3rd - about 30 beers on tap and tasty, if usual, pub grub.

I can't vouch for it because i haven't been yet, but Blue Seats looks cool, it's on Ludlow and Stanton and the menu looks like a little creative take on pub food - asian sesame wings, spring rolls, cheesesteak sliders, etc.

Moishe's Falafel Cart?

I used to work around the corner from Moishe's a few years ago and would go there all the time. It was amazing. Recently I took some friends there and they didn't really know the difference, but I was disappointed - I'm going to stick with pick-a-pita.

I'm heading there tomorrow night and will post a review if no one else has by then. I'm excited about the concept though.

Kosher Bacon

Does anyone know where I can get good kosher bacon that doesn't taste like corned beef? I remember having it when I was young, but haven't been able to find it anywhere.

I live in NY, so that would be preferable.

Dinner/drinks in Midtown West

I have some friends staying at the Hilton on 53rd and 6th and we're going to meet up for dinner and drinks around 8:30 tonight. Any recs of cool places to get both drinking and dinner in - I initially thought Tao, but don't think we can get in with this late notice.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

KOSHER WINE (GENERALLY) SUCKS

If you are in New York, Union Square Wines has a very good selection of upscale kosher wines (the least expensive of which run about $30). I drink mostly nonkosher wine, but was very impressed with the bottles I bought.

Date tonight in EV/NoHo/GV

I like Il Bagatto, that's near the top of my list if drinks go well. The reason why I like Grape & Grain and/or Winebar is because they have some good apps and small plates to go along with the wine.

Date tonight in EV/NoHo/GV

So, I have a date tonight (you guys are getting a pretty good sampling of my love life - it seems like I post whenever I have a date). I live in Alphabet City, she lives in Greenwich Village. I don't like planning dinner for a first date, but all the better if we make it that far. My original plan was to take her to Pipa for sangria and tapas, unfortunately she went there last night. My staple date locations are Grape and Grain or Winebar

I'm leaning more towards Grape and Grain for tonight unless someone has a good idea of something different.

Thanks.

Italiano in Durham Chapel Hill

I am kind of surprised that nobody mentioned Francesca's on Erwin Rd across from Duke University Medical Center. While the place is not the nicest, the food is great (it's been three years since I've lived in the Triangle so it's possible that's changed). The family that owns it is from the Bronx, and are very nice guys who like to get to know their customers. It was the most similar to the New York italian I grew up on.

LES - Romantic, fun bar around Orchard?

I second both Death & Co. and Against the Grain (or the sister bar right next door Grape & Grain), one is beer, the other one wine. I'm also a fan of SB3 on 3rd and B, it's airy, chilled out, and they make great interesting cocktails.

Kosher turkey in midtown

Hi all - Does anyone know, out of the midtown kosher delis (i.e. Mr. Broadway, KD, Bens, etc.) who has the best and least dry turkey cold cuts?

Thanks.

Good inexpensive Italian Food in East Village/ Alphabet City

I like Il Bagatto, might be a little bit of a wait, but worth it. That said, anything suggested in this thread would be worth it.

Need recommendations for pre-dinner drinks, LES

I second In Vino, but would also look at Tapeo 29 on Clinton, pretty good Spanish wine and decent tapas.

bar with classic mixed drinks

I'll second Death & Company on 6th b/w 1st and A and also a new place that just opened a month or so ago called SB3 on 3rd and B makes some incredible mixed drinks, you know just by walking into the place and seeing th ingredients lined up on the bar. Oh, and their food is really cheap too.
