Lunch near 7 World Trade Center
I am Chicago hound who has 2 days of meetings next week at 7 World Trade Center on Greenwich Street. Looking for 2 great lunch recommendations within walking distance of my meetings. I am entertaining clients so am looking for something upscale and am open-minded regarding all cuisines. Your help is much appreciated.
Hollywood recommendations
Just returned from my stay at Westin Diplomat and definitely found chow worthy food a short cab ride from the hotel. Fulvio's had excellent northern- italian cuisine. Enjoyed the butternut squash raviolis, steamed mussels, and the osso bucco was very tender and flavorful. Thay also had a nice selection of italian wines. Went to Padrino's for Cuban and thought it was also a very good spot. Black bean soup was tasty as well as the oven roasted pork and paella. Had a nice bottle of Chilean merlot. Went to Billy's Stone Crab for seafood, and thought the seafood was good, but not great. Had the combination of conch and clam chowder soup and it was dynamite. Large stone crabs were OK but not as good as the one's I've had at Joe's. Broiled Grouper was seasoned nicely but a little overcooked, and the key lime pie was pretty average. I will check out Sugar Reef the next time I'm in town. The food at the Westin was extremely expensive, and was a mixed bag of quality. The breakfast buffet was excellent, but $25 for omelets and typical breakfast fare is ridiculous. Nikkis Marina across from the hotel has great duck quesidillas and makes a tasty mojito, the waterfront setting was a nice touch. The sushi at Aizia was mediocre at best and also very over-priced. I highly recommend Fulvio's and Padrino's and will definitely be back the next time I'm in the Hollywood area. Thanks for all the recommendations

Chicago hound will be staying at Westin Diplomat for 4 Days next week and need great lunch and dinner recommendations. I prefer seafood, italian, or cuban spots, because I have all the steak houses I need in the windy city. I will not have a rental car, so looking for cab rides no longer than 10-15 minutes. Thanks for the help!
Best corned beef sandwich and matzoh ball soup in Scottsdale area.
When you have a craving, you have a craving. In addition, there are at least a dozen great Mexican restaurants in Chicago that I frequent often, and I haven't found the regional Mexican in Phoenix to be any better than what I can get in Chicago. Can you recommend any regional Mexican spots that will blow my socks off. I'll be in Phoenix thru Monday and would love to check them out.
Best corned beef sandwich and matzoh ball soup in Scottsdale area.
Thanks for the recommendations. Just returned from lunch at Goldmans and thought the cabbage soup and matzoh ball soup was as good as any deli in Chicago, New York, or L.A., and I've been to all the great ones. The corned beef sandwich and knish were average at best, and a little on the small side. This is a great soup place, but will check out Scott's, Chompies, or Miracle Mile the next time I'm in town for corned beef.
Best corned beef sandwich and matzoh ball soup in Scottsdale area.
Chicago hound currently in Scottsdale for 3 days and have a craving for great corned beef sandwich and matzoh ball soup. I've seen Goldman"s Deli, Kashman's Place, and Miracle Mile mentioned on the web, and am looking for the best spot. Any recommendations?
Chopped Liver
I live in the southwest suburbs and often get a craving for chopped liver, like the homemade liver my grandma used to make. I have enjoyed the chopped liver at Kaufmanns, Manny's, Carson's, and Roumanian Kosher, and they are all very good, but my favorite is at the Best Kosher Factory on the southside on Pershing just west of the Dan Ryan. They also have fabulous Corned Beef, Pastrami, and Polish Sausages at about half the price of any kosher-style deli in the Chicago metro area. Run, don't walk to this Chicago jewel.
Salbute closing
I agree that the food at Salbute is very mediocre at best, with very high prices.
There are too many superior choices for diners in the surrounding Oakbrook/Hinsdale area. With the explosion of new restaurants opening in Oakbrook in the last year, they just couldn't compete with mediocre overpriced food.
Cancun Recommendations
Thanks for the great recommendations, look forward to checking them out next month.
Cancun Recommendations
Chicago chowhound couple will be visiting Cancun for 10 days in December. We are staying at the Westin Hotel, where the beach is beautiful, but the dining experience is sub par. What restaurants should we visit that are chowhound worthy? Thanks for your assistance.

Great Gelato
Thanks for the recomendation. After not getting any responses for a few days, I started doing research on the internet and found a spot in Palos Heights called Gelato Grotto. I drove 30 minutes on Saturday night to find this place, and was glad I did. The have a few dozen different gelatos and sorbettos, as well as nice selection of pastries and coffees. My wife and I tried the Spumoni, Coconut, Tiramisu, and Pistachio gelatos, and they all were excellent. Also took the mango sorbet home, and my kids thought it was great. I spoke to a young lady who said its only been open since June '07. I am definitely going back there again this weekend. Its in a small strip mall on 135th and Ridgeland

Best Bar-B-Que in Kansas City
Had lunch at LC's today and I was blown away. Tried the BBQ Beef Sandwich and Burnt Ends and thought they were both delicious. Onion rings were also outstanding, and the service was very friendly. When I visit KC next month, this is a can't miss return visit.
Spent $110 last night at Plaza III Steakhouse in Country Club Plaza, spent $19 at LC's today and enjoyed the food more.
Best Bar-B-Que in Kansas City
Chicago chowhound visiting K.C. next week for 2 days and looking for best BBQ spot in town. I will have a car so am not limited by location. Haven't been to KC in 5 years and remembered Arthur Bryant's served some tasty Bar-B-Que. Are there better choices?
Feedback on Cochon
Chicago chowhound in New Orleans the next 4 days and staying at the W Hotel on Poydras. The hotel concierge recommended I dine at Cochon tomorrow night and I would like to get feedback if this is a good choice. Was in New orleans 8 weeks ago and had pleasure to dine at Galatoires,Brigstens, Acme Oyster Bar, Mr. B's Bistro, August, Mother's, and Bon Ton Cafe. How does Cochon measure up? Thanks for the assistance.
Best in NOLA
Thanks so much for the recommendations. I have added Bayona, Stella, and GW Fins to our must visit list. My mouth is watering as I type this message.
Best in NOLA
We are chowhound couple from Chicago visiting New Orleans for 5 days next week. The last time we visited your charming city was 10 years ago, and we have many fond memories of the great restaurants we visited. Had the pleasure to enjoy Galatoire's, Commander's Palace, Bon Ton Cafe, K-Pauls, Acme Oyster Bar, Brennans, and Cafe Du Monde. Are these restaurants still good choices, and what other spots are recommended for a couple of yankees that want to soak up a truly New Orleans Experience? We are staying in the French Quarter, but are willing to cab it to any place that will knock our socks off. Thanks for your assistance.
Steak in western suburbs
Your friend may have visited Vic"s Classic Italian Steakhouse that is on 22nd Sreet, just west of Oakbrook Mall. I eat steak in the Oakbrook, Oakbrook Terrace, Lombard, and Westchester area quite often and feel there are better choices for a great steak dinner. I would recommend Magnum's, Morton's, Capital Grille, Wildfire as a notch above Vic's.
Best Omaha Steak House
I agree with you on Fleming's. I can go there anytime, just like Mortons, Capital Grille, Ruth Chris etc., as I travel around the country. Around 10 years ago I had a great steak at Anthony's, what is your opinion on that place versus Johnny's.
Best Omaha Steak House
Chicago Hound looking for best steak house in Omaha. Staying at the Omaha Marriot on Regency Circle this weekend and will have a car. Also any other chow worthy restaurant recommendations would be appreciated.
Best in Charleston SC
Chicago couple celebrated our 25th anniversary in Charleston 3 weeks ago. In our opinion, Charleston is one of the top 5 Chow Cities in the country. We had great lunches at Hominy Grill, Jestine's Kitchen, and Cru Cafe. Had fabulous dinners at Slightly North of Broad(SNOB), High Cotton, and FIG. Our overall favorite dining experience for atmosphere, service, and food quality was at SNOB. We enjoyed Red Bean Soup, Carmelized Pear Salad, and Mussels for appetizers. Sauteed Duck Breast and Veal Sausage for main entrees, and Creme Brulee and Banana Cream Pie for desserts. Also had a great bottle of Rioja wine. Can't wait to go back to this beautiful city.
Best Chow In Charleston
Happy anniversary to you as well. I will try to fit in Jestines and McGrady's.
Lao SzeChuan in Downers Grove
Ive been to over 50 Chinese restaurants in Chicago area, and I put this establishment in my top 10 choices. Had dinner there last week and thought food was outstanding. We enjoyed Kung Pao Chicken, Moo Shu Pork, Mongolian Beef, Pot Stickers, and Hot and Sour Soup. Service was very friendly(filled our water glasses every 5 minutes, refreshed pot of tea twice). We will definitely be back.
