Connie and Ted's

I ate here on Saturday Night ,being a transplant from Massachusetts, I was really interested in seeing what my favorite fish chef from "Providence" would do with the dumbed down concept of the New England Clam Shack.
I was charmed by the location on Santa Monica Blvd the building is beautiful and the napkins ,dishes and decor is very nice. Started with a dozen oysters Chef's Choice which came with a mignonette and some grated horseradish and they were delicious. My wife and daughter had a crab cake and thought it was delicious I personally never touch the stuff.
We each had a Lobster Roll and I also had Fried Clams with the bellies. Both were very big dissapointments .The Lobster Truck does a better Lobster Roll at 12.95 than the 20$ version here ,and the Fried Clams had an awful coating and tasted greasy.
I will go back though because in scanning the tables I saw some fantastic food going out of the kitchen such as a Portugese Stew and whole lobster split down the middle and grilled.
The desserts were on whole good renditions of a Whoopie Pie and Blondie Brownie with Caramel as well as Devil's Food Cake
The whole menu like I said looks great I just had some dissapointing renditions of items from my past
I think I will wait until fall when I am back in New England to order them again

I thought this meal was good but this is the third iteration of LQ i have eaten having also eaten at Starry Kitchen and Real Girl Cafe in the last year and a half or so and I actually thought this was the third best meal I have had with Laurent, but having said that The cheese cart at the end of the meal was a great added addition although an extra cost it is well worth it with some creamy Epoisse and other wonderful cheeses

A Worth-the-Visit Hospitality School Restaurant

I had a 3 course dinner there last year and was very impressed The level of service from the students and their enthusiastic efforts to please were well worth the stop . Food was very good as well, and the view can't be beat

Port and Chocolate Tasting

I posted this originally on the General Topics site and it was suggested that I ask here!

I am researching putting together a Port and Chocolate Tasting for an event and am wondering if anyone has done one of these and can give me some pointers. How many Ports? How many types of Chocolate? How much on the pour etc.etc.

Ham on Rye, Extra Sadism

I have a differing opinion to the original post. If the owner volunteered to order for the party, I find that to be a very generous and gracious gesture, and for the Vegetarian to object was quite insulting to the owner of the restaurant. I feel the Vegetarian could have very easily handled the matter,by indicating that he/she was a vegetarian and asking the owner in his selections to include some items that they could have eaten ,rather than objecting and imposing his/her will on the entire party and the owner's gesture.

Simple, Traditional, Japanese Comfort Food - YUZU [Review] w/ Pics!

I ate here about a year ago in response to a review in the LA times. I and my party were the only GaiJin(sp) in the place it was a beautiful little restaraunt . We decided to have a "tasting "and let them bring us what they wished . They ask you how much you wish to spend and then serve you accordingly. I think we went for about 100 per person or something close to that. We had a fabulous time The sushi was some white fish flown in from Tokyo that mornig the Foie Gras was excellent as was almost everything that they served us. The Washoku style is pub food and they serv all differnet styles from raw to grilled to braised to steamed atc. etc. and give you examples of each style in succession. The only thing I didn't find palatable was the stew that was provided with so many different mysteries in it that I had no idea ads to what they were I have since learned that you can if you are in the know oirder the stew with precisley what you wish included in it and not have to go through asking each individual item that was included. All in all a great find and a wonderful adventure

downtown dinner for 10-15

I have to agree I went there Saturday night after the premire of 9-5 the musical and was thouroughly unimpressed the flavors were not sharp, the plates I thought were pretty plain. I don't think I could get out of Patina for under a 100 because I would have to have the cheese course for dessert, but it is clearly the best of downtown

Tomatoes Packed in Their Own Juices

I do this every summer but I only use my plum tomatoes and I also add a shot of olive oil and a half clove of garlic or somwe pepper flakes to the jar. Then in the middle of winter I open the jar and get the smell of summer take out the tomatoes crush them into a pan for sauce and have the smell and taste of summer all over again.

Bad Meal and Service at Esca

I flew in from Los Angeles with my Family and on a friends recommendation made a reservation at Esca for dinner. I have to agree with a lot of the enrties I see on this list the place is terribly overated and not worth the effort .I sat there for at least a 1/2 an hour before we even got a waiter to bring us a menu or ask us if we wanted anything to drink.
When he found out we were not drinking alcohol the level of dreadful service went down hill from there . We each had appetizers ,entrees, a split pasta, and dessert we had to ask them to remove plates ,ask them for bread, ask them for water. The food was not up to my expectations either, the crudo was OK ,but the salad was salty, the fish stew under seasoned and bland, the halibut my wife had was dried out and tasteless. Frankly it probably was the worst meal I had all weekend. I should have stuck to the street food
