Culebra - Pig Roast on the Beach
We're looking to plan a wedding on Culebra, and we'd like to have a BBQ on the beach afterwards. I'm thinking a pig roast would be perfect, but I don't know if there are any caterers that can do that AND if its even allowed on the beach. We're thinking of having a bon fire afterwards for everyone. Anyone have any ideas if any of this is possible or is this just a pipe dream?
Good Eats in Little Italy
Alright, you guys convinced me! Sounds like I'll be able to visit the Linkery after dinner at Urban Solace for sure. Both my girlfriend and I are pretty into beer, so it sounds like I gotta visit a couple bars while I'm out here too.
Good Eats in Little Italy
I just like to see where my post has gone...from looking for food in Little Italy to recommending which posters I should trust. Gotta love Chow!
Good Eats in Little Italy
He worked with my friend at Novelty, and he mentioned he did some work at Buddakan and Le Bec Fin. I don't know if what capacity, but it sure does sound he comes from a solid background.

Well, OP here. Beer is important - actually very important. But I'm also heading to Seattle a week after San Diego, so I'll get my craft beer fix there.
I'm going to do a little research on the Linkery. I have a place in DC that sounds very much like Ritual - they also have a beer float and 20 taps and 200 bottles. Plus, all the food they have is cooked with beer. Not to say that everything is good there, but its a great place to knock a couple back.
Good Eats in Little Italy
I'm definitely excited about the Better Half. Funny story about that place too - I'm originally from Philadelphia (but in DC now), and the owner is from Philly too. Turns out he used to manage a restaurant in Philadelphia with one of my current co-workers. I tell ya, its a small world...
Good Eats in Little Italy
I'm a huge fan of fish and chips! Shakeaspere sounds like a definite stop for us.
Good Eats in Little Italy
Good call on a deli. I will say, I am originally from Philadelphia, so I can be a snob about good hoagies. Although, since I live in DC, a hoagie by way of San Diego might actually do me good.
Between Pete's and Mona Lisa, which one has the better deli?
Good Eats in Little Italy
I'm coming out to San Diego next week, and I'll be staying in Little Italy. That being said, I'm looking for (guess what?!?!) Italian there. It can be upscale or red checkerboard, either is fine with me. I just figure if we're staying in Little Italy, we might as well get some Italian there. Hopefully Little Italy is REALLY Italian and not a tourist trap, but any recs would be appreciated.
The other reservation I have so far is at Urban Solace, and I'm looking to make another reservation at The Better Half.
Thanks!
TONIGHT - Inner Harbor Happy Hour
I rarely find myself in Baltimore, but tonight is a special night and I'll be out of work early and at (in?) the Inner Harbor around 4:30. I'm going to a concert at 1st Mariner's and will probably park nearby. Any place have a decent happy hour nearby with food? All must be within walking distance. Otherwise, I'll be at Chipotle and drinking at CPK (don't let this happen to me!).
Added bonus: Parking...any secret cheap lots or am I stuck with event parking?
Beef Tenderloin Tips - What do I do with them?
So, I have a bunch of beef tenderloin tips in my freezer that have been there too long. They're a little freezer burned and I want to do something interesting with them. Sure, I could just slice them and stir fry them, but I don't really have any other ideas beyond that. I probably have almost 2 pounds of them...give or take.
What do I do?
PS. Don't say throw them away!
Buffalo Burgers or Steaks?
Both the Reef and Bourbon have it and both have a good beer selection to wash it all down.
Where can I buy Ovaltine Classic Malt?
I'll take a look at the Lotte in Germantown this weekend, but I'm the same as you. I never look for it but I know I've seen it around before. If I find any, I'll let you know. I used to eat the Horlicks candy when I was a kid, but I haven't found that in the US in years...
Fresh Jalapeno Poppers -- who has the best in DC/NOVA?
I was there last night, and I will say their guac was good, creamy with little filler. I had the BBQ chicken which was pretty good - moist and not overcooked. I've always liked their collard greens and fried okra. Their fried chicken was ok, not amazing, but still well done. Ribs were also ok...tender but not fall off the bone and the sauce is good - not too sweet. Oh, and their fried fish was suprisingly good.
For what it is, I think you nailed it. "Surprisingly good soul food." You wouldn't expect it there, and the food is NOT the draw, but I would say if you make a night of it, you can both EAT and be entertained there.
Fresh Jalapeno Poppers -- who has the best in DC/NOVA?
I don't really like them (in general), but they have fresh poppers at Madam's Organ in Adams Morgan. Actually, I like a lot of their food there and the location can't be beat.
Downtown DC Wedding Reception
I did an event at Zola's/The Spy Museum. Technically, you're in the Spy Museum space, but the food all comes from Zola's, so you get good private space AND good food.
good carryout in Bethesda?
I second North China....I work up here, and I'm obsessed with it for lunch. Good AUTHENTIC Taiwanese and Shanghai food.
If you go on the weekends and in the afternoon, the Bethesda Women's Coop is open and they have a ton of good carryout food there. My favorite is the Turkish guy right at the entrance.
Where can I buy Ovaltine Classic Malt?
I'm guessing, but I think you'd have really good luck at any of the Chinese grocery stores. That's where we used to get it when I was a kid, but I haven't looked for it in years. As an alternative to Ovaltine, you can get Horlicks, which is pretty much the same thing.
Germantown and Gaithersburg Dinners
There's also Peking Palace for good Chinese, just make sure to ask for the Chinese menu and not the American one. In the same shopping center, which I beleive was renamed the Lotte Shopping Center, is Lotte. Its a grocery store, but it does have Bon Chon chicken. The most addictive, fried chicken I've ever had - its Korean and its not a heavily breaded chicken, but more of a glazed yet crispy one. You just have to try it, but search for Bon Chon chicken, and you'll hear people raving about it. There are also many other chinese, japanese, and korean places in the super market to eat at.
I'm a big fan of the French Quarter Cafe. I hear their brunch is good (I've never been), but I will say I've had a couple great meals there. Awesome fried oysters and its a small restaurant that does offer a good value.
Agrodulce is probably the "fanciest" of all your choices, but notice I didn't say the best. Its ok Italian, but for Germantown, its one of your nicer options. I'd say its just average. The better choice is Rustic Oven in Germantown. Family owned and operated (Mom's in the kitchen and dad does the sauce), they serve good Italian food and excellent pizzas. Also definitely cheaper than Agrodulce.

Unusual Food in DC / MD / VA
Along those same lines, I was at Bob's Noodle 66 last night in Rockville, and they have a healthy menu of kidneys, tripe, and all kinds of fun organ meats. Although I haven't tried them yet (haven't been there with the right crowd that would go for it), everything else I've had on the menu has been awesome. I think they turn out consistently good food up there. Its Taiwanese food...
Churreria Madrid
Its still there, and they're still in business. I walked by there yesterday and they're on vacation, back at the end of August. If only they served those churros at 2am for takeout...
Cheap Eats Needed in Foggy Bottom
The 51st St. Tavern is down there, and they had really cheap food. I haven't been there in a while though. I'm not sure if its within 6 blocks to GW, but Nirvana has great veg indian food, and they have an awesome lunch buffet. Charlie Chang's is right next door, but that's just blah chinese. Isn't there a mall near GW too?
Food near Prince William Forest Park (or Quantico/Occoquan)
Oh, so that's where Dixie Bones is. That's definitely a possibility...I always lumped Dixie Bones into those restaurants that I wanted to try, but were just too far away.
Outdoor Dining In DC?!
Ooo...I second that. I go to the Reef often during the week to get to the roof (near impossible on the weekends). The food is good, the beer selection is even better.
Also, check out Bourbon as well in Adams Morgan. I really like their food (American/comfort food) and they also have a good beer selection as well as, you guessed it, Bourbon. They have a "hidden" outdoor seating area if you go past the bar, out the back door.
Both places are good during the week places or great places to wind down on Sunday nights.
Food near Prince William Forest Park (or Quantico/Occoquan)
I'm going camping down in Prince William Forest Park, which is right next to Quantico and near Occoquan. We're driving down from DC, and I wanted to see if there's any place worth stopping at on the way back from the Park to DC, heading up 95. I never head that far south, so if there's anything worth stopping at past Alexandria, I'd love to know. It can't be too nice though, since we'll be grubby from camping. I'm open to anything at all since we'll all be hungry, as long as its not a chain or fast food and we don't stray too far from 95.
If all else fails, we're stopping at Eamonn's for chicken bites, their curry sauce, and chips!
French Fries
I like the chilli cheese waffle fries at Asylum after I've downed the vegan huevos rancheros @ Sunday brunch. I really don't think anything cures a hangover better....
Night of the Week Specials-DC
The event is run by Adams Morgan MainStreet. They're a great little neighborhood organization that helps to promote the neighborhood as a whole. Here's the link to their last First Tuesdays flyer for April:
http://www.ammainstreet.org/pdf/First_Tues_Flyer_April07_COLOR_01.pdf
I do volunteer for them, so consider this biased, but I think they're a great organization to be involved with - esp. if you are passionate about the neighborhood.
Jojo restaurant and bar?
The food is OK....I used to go there a lot for drinks and to listen to their live jazz. I remember eating a good burger and some good wings while sitting at the bar. On another occasion, I had their salmon entree - I really don't remember much about it, but at least I don't remember it being bad!
Its not a destination for food, but I'd eat there again if I wanted to listen to some live music.
Casa Oaxaca-Adams Morgan
You might be thinking of the new Peruvian place up the street on 18th - I can't remember the name, but its near Brass Knob. Its been boarded up FOREVER, and I know they're about to open (or already have).
